Hi,
Quite often I like to just sit and shuffle the cards over and over, just to relax.
Any one else do this or should I see someone?!
Regards,
Ian

I can sit and shuffle for hours. One good one is the Radiant - it has a really thick laminate, more like plastic and the cards are really slick. Its very comfortable to shuffle. So nope IDN, you are not alone :D

I don't do it for comfort but I do for ages..... before a reading.
There is definately something theraputic about it, it's like a kind of meditation.

I do it sometimes, it relaxes me as well. I don't need to do a reading, just shuffle =)

I understand this. Sometimes it's just nice to feel the cards.

I shuffel a forever before a reading, too. I actually had someone ask me on Halloween, "Are you about finished with that?" Good thing he wasn't paying by the hour! :D
Peace,

I'm a shuffler, too.
I usually shuffle while sitting and watching T.V. . For some reason I find it soothing.

Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle....
It's an almost mindless thing to do, and I love doing it. It is soooo relaxing, and I do love the feel of the cards. Although one of my decks (can't remember which one) did give me a nasty papercut.

No you are not alone, Ian - another shuffler here raising her hand along with the rest ;)
I often shuffle a deck while watching TV (on the odd occasion that I actually watch television), but usually while I am on the computer reading stuff as well.
I am also regularly trying to give up smoking or cut down so I also use shuffling as something to do with my hands when I am out on the back verandah, instead of lighting up a smoke. Sounds terrible I know - but it works! I find it sort of therapeutic as well, the constant movement and sound ;)

Yep, I'm a compulsive shuffler... I take my Robin Wood deck everywhere, and have done for a few years now, and often I don't realize I've reached into my bag and started shuffling until somebody asks "Oh, are you doing a Tarot reading?" It's now just something I do whilst I'm chatting to my friends, or whilst I'm reading a book, watching TV, etc. Also when I think, though I tend to get sidetracked onto Tarot like that... })
I did a Tarot talk the other night, and put the cards I was going to show specifically to the listeners on top of the deck, so that I wouldn't have to search through the deck at the crucial moment... So it was like going cold turkey for me, trying to make myself not shuffle the deck! (I nearly did, which would have been a mini-disaster!)
Anyway, yep- a compulsive shuffler.
Blessings,
Kiama

I love to shuffle, too -- it's soothing to the psyche.

I call it deep shuffling. Even with playing cards.. *shuffle shuffle shuffle* I have been a shuffler like that since I was a kid.. you know, if you don't shuffle the cards enough...how you going to win a solitaire right? ;)
Anyone ever say to you that your going to "shuffle the *ahem* of the Queen".....:laugh::laugh:
It is very theraputic.. one can shuffle mindlessly, I think those give the best readings.

Shuffling to pass the time of day doesn't come up too often,
but there are so many important things to be discovered by
handling the cards that I can see where it might be soothing.
When I've gotten all of everything taken care of and am finally
getting down to doing the actual reading, that's when I rely most
on the cards to let me know how the energy is moving through.
If the cards are jamming, I slow it down and move my mind
inside them ~ it isn't like hammering an old nail into a board.
We each find the right combination of movements together,
and then I'll say, "Ok, one more smooth one and we're good."
The deck is then doing the shuffling, and I work along with it.

Shuffle and a candle next to me while I shuffle.

Yes, I sometimes sit shuffling for absolutely ages, I suppose it's for comfort. It stills my mind - a bit like meditating. The deck I like to shuffle the most is my Morgan Greer, it's just the right size and the cards have a nice, worn, old feeling.

I have my learning deck next to me while I am watching TV. I shuffle during the shows and then pick a card at random to study during the commercials. Some of my decks seem too fragile to shuffle a lot.

On one of the shuffling threads here at AT, someone described how they shuffled--by laying the cards out one at a time in seven stacks. The idea immediately attracted me and I've done this quite a bit.
When I'm just shuffling for fun, or doing that first good-morning shuffle of the day, I like to do this with the cards face-up, so I can just take in all the beautiful imagery and symbolism. When I'm finished, I gather all the stacks together, re-shuffle by lacing or riffling with them face down and pull my daily card.

Right, I've never been able to shuffle in the past, I kina just cut the card into four different budles and then slide them together, but now I'm learning. But I'll tell you one thing, I'm practising with an OLD bunch of PLAYING cards, I know what my previous attempts at shuffling has produced })

I like to shuffle.
Ever since I can remember I always have played cards. Now I read
tarot cards.
Never thought it was all about "the cards in the hands!"
Thanks for the thread.

I kind of enjoy shuffling, too. Although I don't actually get the chance to sit there doing it as often as I'd like. (I guess I like to feel close to my cards. Heh. I'm glad that you tarot people understand these things. That would sound so funny to a non-tarot person. :D)
Whatever I'm playing with, my little boy usually wants to play with, too, so I can't really get into my cards until he's asleep & even then, there are always so many other things to do while he's sleeping .. like sleeping myself, sometimes.
So yeah, to get back to what we were talking about .. if I could sit there shuffling & shuffling, I certainly would.

Shuffling is calming. Yupkigirl called it "almost minless"- I'll second that! At least, it doesn't require us to use our concious mind...I've just realised it the best thing to do in between studying for exams. I just take a five minute (or ten or.....minute) break every hour or so and shuffle!
Of course, I'll let everyone know if it has any adverse effects on my results...
