Another one of my daft threads!
Was just playing around with my current deck and thinking of ways to really get inside it.
The cards of the Ancient Italian are quite large, or at least, they seem it after using the Soprafino, which is a little on the small side. However, looking at them in the dim light of my room, I found it a little difficult to really become face to face with the characters .... until ....
I scanned 'Il Matto' into my computer. I blew him up until his head was the size of the screen and used my arrows to explore every little inch of the card. He was looking straight into my eyes. Am going to try the exercise with other cards ('Il Bagatto' is a scary thought) and I will let you know how it goes. Try it! It's kind of eerie to be that close up to your tarot cards.

Great idea. I'm going to try it with the Golden.

It certainly is a strange experience to see them that big. The larger I made 'Il Matto', the stranger it became; until we were looking at each other head on. It really felt like he was here with me and the enlarging of the picture hardly distorted the image. I noticed what really calm and gentle eyes he has. Really deep and vulnerable. I always favoured the 'Fool' in the Thoth, and also the 'Pagan 2000', but I think that the one from this deck is a contender for my favourite of all 'Fool' cards I have seen.
Il Bagatto was as eerie as I expected him to be; his plump little flushed face and thick tufts of red hair. Up close, he smiles, but there is something behind his eyes that I didn't trust. Being that close was a little unsettling, and not a face you would want to look into for a prolonged amount of time - unlike 'Il Matto'. Having the image so big, was fun to be able to actually root about on his table - take a closer look at the shoe and tools of his trade.
As I study each card, I think I will continue to do this.
Look forward to hearing how you get on with the Golden, Red Maple. I am sure the lush details of that deck will look magnificent large and there will be lots that you can tune into.

The Soprafino seems calm, like statuary or portraits.
Serraville (Ancient Italian) has lots of character with all the coloring variations. The minors seem very prettily done, although I don't really know the floral differences.
I am slightly amused at you face to face with Il Matto and I agree, he has gentleness from the Soprafino.
Il Bagatto seems to be the dastardly Uncle Ernie from the Who's Tommy or some other red-nosed bubba...
Have fun...I really found La Papessa and Temperance to be lovely in both decks...

Cerulean
P.S. Yes, I'd LOVE to large versions of the Soprafino or the Serraville 1880 decks in a card format. I have two books that have color pictures and slightly enlarged the cards (they used the Lo Scarabeo coloring and versions) and I do like seeing the larger size...I have a 'Giant Dotti' deck and the cards in a larger format make a better impact on me lately...

What an excellent idea....
Although it sounds a little scary the way you described it, Yabs.....
imagine getting up close and personal with....say, the Morgan Greer Devil card??? }) hehehe
(I don't have the MG deck....but I have heard this card mentioned many times as being very disturbing....)
But seriously....I am going to experiment with some cards and see what happens....

yabs, don't be mad, but I just had this image of you exploring the Marseille Fool's......umm, dog, yeah dog, with your super magnified vision....what sharp claws that dog has, huh?
Of course, this post could be the result of my lack of a scanner so that I cannot join this fun, and fun it sounds....
