I was curious to know if any of you fellow AT members would get a headache when reading. It's happened twice now, I've been shuffling the cards or just when I'd finished laying the cards - bang- instant headache. Sometimes I also get a general feeling of unwellness whilst reading.
Any advice? Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem?
Thank you

If I recall correctly, Napaea was a great proponent of holding hematite to the third eye for this situation . You might also try visualizing excess energy moving out of your palms and feet .

Yes ~ I have experienced the same thing. Sometimes just while sitting and shuffling the cards I will get pressure in my head. Occasionally it is a full blown headache and other times just the 'psychic band' type of pain.
Great question :).

I haven't heard about this. And the obvious question about it being related or due to tension just sounds stupid. So, can anybody associate these headaches to any possible cause? Dave

I don't remember getting headaches, but sometimes I get sleepy...

Next time you feel this band of tension around your head, close your eyes and visualize the top of your head opening up & light streaming up from it like a flashlight. It's possibly your crown chakra, and if it is, this would clear it up for you by relieving pressure. Take a few deep breaths, and open your eyes again. It should take care of the problem.

My first thought is to make sure that you've had enough to eat. Sometimes I've been reading tarot, and I get so focused that I don't notice my body getting hungry until I'm starving. Maybe you can keep some juice or fruit by you when you read in case it's a low blood sugar thing? If you're of a more mystical bent, eating is also a really simple and easy way of grounding yourself.
Also, on an even more practical note, make sure that you're reading in adequate light and not squinting.

I have read that a headache in the area of your third eye means that your third eye is trying to open up. See, the third eye is kind of like an unoiled hinge and when its being opened it creaks...or gives us a headache in that area. This happening while reading tarot is highly likely because when we read tarot we are very aware of our intuition so this is a natural time for your third eye to try and open up.

As Dark Inquisitor mentioned, I've also read or heard somewhere about the hematite against the 3rd eye working, but can't speak from experience.

i have also had this happen. all of the ideas presented seem good and logical, but, here's my take. i have never thought about the third eye, but it is close to what i believe. to me it is as if through deep concentration, and meditation, i am makeing a very strong psychic connection, to the "energy", or whatever it is that controls the cards, thereby causing a physical reaction in the mind. it is real close to what i experience when i have one of my preminition's. even though it can be painful and alway's a nuiscence, explore it, see if you can feel the energy that is causing it. if so i believe you will find it beneficial.

Hi Cheekyminx,
Along with what the others have said, I would add "drink lots of water". I would definately suggest bottled water instead of tap water. This will help rid your body of unwanted toxins which could be adding to your headaches.

Before you try anything to complicated (not to say they wont work) have you made sure that you are drinking enough, if you dont drink enough it can give really bad headcahes, particuarrly if you are trying to concentrate.
Other than try and relax, tense musscle, particuarlly in the neck, can cause really bad headaches at the front of your head and along your forhead.

Hi and thankyou to you all for replying to my thread. You've answered my question and I am very grateful.
I think it is my third eye trying to open up as that's where I get my headaches and YES I need to drink more water. I shall try visualising light streaming from my head ;)
Thanks!

If it continues, you might try doing some relaxation exercises before you begin reading... I find deep breathing and visualizing my chakras gently opening helps immensely. :)

Besides being completely wiped out after a reading, I also used to get a headache the way you described. Now I meditate (preferably with the client) before I do a reading. This helps me to focus, to stay centered and to feel grounded during the reading. And best part is I no longer get the headaches or the exhaustion.
I've recently become aware that it's equally as important to do something after the reading to consciously detach myself from the client's energy.
Oh, and I also drink water during my reading.

Thank You HudsonGray ~
I realize I didn't start this thread - but I know your advice will be of great help to me.
I have experienced the band of tension alot lately and will start doing more work on my crown chakra. Have also had a lot of third eye pressure , maybe I need to give all of my chakras a good balancing.
Thank you again :).

Wiped out, nausea, dizziness, headache etc. before – during – or after readings, is your body talking to you.
Often, yeah – it’s third eye related – and if you’re not ready for it…
I used to get this kinda not really pressure behind the eyes (like little tiny hands resting on them from the back…
Your body is freaking out essentially.
When reading, consume way more water than normal (not tea, not coffee, not soda…Water…). Your body will thank you – so will your spirit. Seriously, you gotta hose down that temple once in a while.
Use onyx rather than hematite. They both work – but you’ll find onyx works quicker and longer (Recommended by 4 out of 5 Metaphysicians). You don’t even have to apply to your third-eye – just keep in your pocket or on your person).
Water…
Onyx…
And breathe for God(dess)’ sake! Get some oxygen moving!

Cool! What is it you do after a reading? I meditate before, but never thought of doing something after. And this morning after doing WhiteRaven's reading? Yep-headahe!
Oh, and I'll be sure to drink plenty of water. :)

After a reading...journal it. gives a few moments to 'wind down'...kinda like walking your horse before you stable it...

I know this may sound to mondan but have you checked your lighting where you read? Really! I agree with alot writen here, but sometimes something very simple can cause headaches in any situation. Back to lighting, too bright or not enogh or the need for natural could be a factor, just think about it.
Many purrrs,

I know what you mean but have only experienced this when trying to read with the Marseille deck a long time ago. It just wiped the energy right out of me. I have never had this problem reading with any other deck though.
