By the way, a hint, for those in U.S., Canada and Mexico. If you want to get two $5.00 decks, consider getting a third deck. That's because, if you buy 2 decks, there will be $3.00 shipping added, for a total of $13.00; whereas if you order 3 decks, you will get them for a total of $15.00 (including 'free' Standard Shipping).
Ooh grrrrr!! I didn't know that and I bought 2 and then later 2 more...pooey!

I think there was a temporary glitch in the program. Later on, I added a fourth deck, then deleted the fourth deck, and now the shipping for the 3 decks isn't free. Go figure!

Well, I cleared my cookies. Ordered three items, it came up as total $15.00, $0.00 Standard Shipping. Opened the account, entered my address and credit card info. Then my online confirmation of completed pending order shows the addition of $3.00 for standard shipping. Go figure.

Finally gave in and placed my order. I ordered 3 decks and I got charged the $3.00 shipping charge. I had messed around with my shopping cart too many times changing my mind about the decks and at one point had a $3.00 shipping charge even when my cart was empty :). I couldn't get rid of the shipping charge after that. It's quite a reasonable shipping charge though.
Did any Canadians receive their orders yet? Any customs fees?

OMG That is HIGH-larious! The terrible, shameful, wicked thing is that the American consumer demon in me looked at the Gnomes and pondered the Gnomes and vaguely wanted the Gnomes... even though I KNEW they would've given me . But I just can't stand to pass up a deal (Arab ancestry, natch). LOL
The thing that stopped me was the moment I said to myself: "Hey, I'll buy it and I can trade it later if someone's looking for it on the forum." And then I realized we were ALL going to buy the Gnomes thinking that, so I had visions of the trading thread awash with Gnomes... hundreds of unloved, unreadable Gnome decks looking for homes. People giving away free Gnomes to newbies just to get rid of them. It snapped me out of my Yankee-doodle-acquisitive delirium. That was the only thing that held me back.
Lark, it would've been me... it could've been me... And when you need to ditch the gnomes, I'll be supportive.

In France and Switzerland we have a "Society for the Liberation of Garden Gnomes" that "liberates" garden gnomes from their unhappy positions in hundreds of rockeries and places them in more interesting places. I wonder if such a group would consider liberating the Tarot Gnomes? Poor little fellows. It sounds like they could do with fresh air and a few liberating shakes from a great big sack over a mountain edge. Some Fool might do it?

Yes!
In fact I remember an article about a Gnome that traveled all over the world "sent back" photos to its owner about its "vacation." Jeunet borrowed the anecdote for AMELIE (<--great film).
The great thing about liberating Gnome decks is that it isn't one object. And since Scarabeo decks are a standard size, we could just slip a single card into a deck we were trading as a surprise... Gnomes could turn up everywhere. Like a Tarot virus. AAAGH!

OK, so before I say anything I have to preface with a disclaimer that it's partially JMD's & Diana's fault. They've gotten me so worked up doing research into Marseilles and the beginnings of divinatory history with Etteilla. THEN I got the email from Llewellyn letting me know I needed to ACT NOW!
So I thought, "Buy the Ancient Marseilles for 5 bucks. Sure. And you oughtta have a copy of the Etteilla, just cause. You keep reading about the damn thing and the reporductions are always terrible." And then it happened. I needed a third deck to keep the shipping down.
I kept thinking about your post about the fellow coming home with his boots, the wife with the rollling pin.
One picture kept pushing me over the edge.

The good news it that I found out that Llewellyn faxes Canadian orders to a warehouse in Canada--yeah--no customs charges :)
The bad news is that the warehouse is out of stock of some items--e.g. Ancient Tarot of Bologna and Tarots of the Gnomes and it may take a few weeks for these to be restocked. I placed my order January 11th so maybe you'll get it sooner if you placed your order before me:)
The other good news is that they will ship what they do have in stock, for me this is Tarot of Lombardy and Tarot of the Master instead of waiting weeks for the order to be complete.
I found this information because I have been influenced by the crazy gnome lovers and decided to add The Tarots of the Gnomes to my order by telephone since my credit card had not been charged yet.
I don't know if I will be charged twice for shipping and didn't feel like asking because the shipping charge is reasonable (for Canada) and they can't be making any money on these decks.

Helvetica sweetheart, I think you are a little confused.
We will be reading WITH the Gnomes not for them.
Although I certainly wouldn't turn away any Gnome that requested a reading.
Gnomes live all over the world.
I live in a very intensely populated Gnome spot next to Lake Michigan.
There are 6 main types of gnome~ woodland gnomes, dune gnomes, garden gnomes, house gnomes, farm gnomes and Siberian gnomes.
For a definitive source of Gnome lore let me suggest "Gnomes" by Poortvliet and Huygen.

ah, so you will read with the Gnomes for people. As opposed to with People for gnomes. And of course, if you have a gnome client who comes to you one day, you wil have just the deck for him!
Switzerland is full of gnomes, you'd have lots of gnome clients here, it could be a new line. "For gnomes, with Gnomes". Very politically correct.

Helvetica: Perhaps it would be useful to expand on the Zurich gnomes.
http://www.anz.com/edna/dictionary.asp?action=content&content=gnomes_of_zurich
Zurich Gnomes don't talk much. As someone once said, Swiss Gnomes are renowned for being the epitome of discretion and by comparison the Egyptian sphinx is a blabber-mouth.
I think it's better therefore to read with Tarot Gnomes rather than Swiss Gnomes. Although if we're reading for and with Swiss Gnomes, we'd better stick to financial readings.

No, I meant to read for the Gnomes of Zurich with the Gnomes Tarot deck. I am assured that the Tarot Gnomes are quite voluble - they probably even speak Schwitzertuetch (if they speak phoenician) and would be a valuble addition to the Swiss Banking institutions. If you can learn to make fruit salad and all the cpaitals of the former Soviet Union, our Swiss gnomes can - maybe- learn to smile.

Today from the post office I picked up the first of my two shipments from the Ontario warehouse: Ancient Tarots of Bologna, Ancient Tarots of Lombardy, and Tarot of the Master.
Because of the tightness of the shrinkwrap around the cardboxes (and perhaps also because of the way the package was wrapped), the cardboxes were a bit beaten around the edges and slightly flattened. I wouldn't have been too happy if I had paid full price, as already the decks aren't "mint" because of the condition of the cardboxes. :) But hey, for the price, I'm a happy camper.

Canpar tried to deliver my first package today and I wasn't home. I wish it had been shipped regular mail and that I could pick it up at the post office tomorrow. Canpar will try again tomorrow and I have to leave instructions for them just to leave the package in front of my door or they will ship it back to Llewellyn.
That's too bad about the boxes.

Ruby7 ... They were sent by Canada Post 'Expedited Parcel'; it was the 'default' shipping method, $3 U.S. total shipping.
That's strange that they'd ship it back to Llewellyn so soon. If it's left with a pickup at post office slip (first and second slips), you have about 2 wks from first slip to pick up the item from the post office.
I think I've had a bit too many decks this month, but I couldn't help it, as the opportunities arose: The vintage 1969 Thoth; the vintage Aquarian (well that one, there would always have been another); three Llewellyn sale decks; and, still to come, another two Llewellyn sale decks. Eek.

I don't understand why they would send my package by Canpar, I would have preferred Canada Post and I ordered the same way as you online ($3.00 U.S. shipping) I hope they didn't charge me more. The charge on my credit card is for $19.00 CDN (and some change) and that can only be for two decks.
Can a person ever have too many decks :)? I think that you forgot to mention one though--Mayan?

I checked my invoice that came with the package. The cost for the total of three decks was $15.00, Freight was $3.00, Canadian Goods and Services Tax was $1.26, for a total of
TOTAL (CAD) 19.26
Looks like they charged Canadians $5.00 CAD per deck, rather than $5.00 U.S.
Two things are therefore odd. First, the price for Canadians was cheaper than for Americans. Second, they charged for GST even though online site didn't mention it. (However, if they ship from Canada, they have to charge GST. I note that the Barnes and Noble site in the U.S. automatically charges GST to Canadians.)

Well, you think you have problems Rusty.........
My Gnomes arrived VIOLATED!!!!!
Yes, the shrink wrap was around the deck box but the top had been slit with an exacto knife!
The deck had been taken out and the shrink wrap on the deck was gone!
They were all in a muddle, upside down and mixed up!!!!
The Star card has a nick in the top where the exacto knife must have hit it.
I am very displeased.
My poor Gnomes.
To be treated thus.
I'm making them a nice tarot bag tommorrow.
They wouldn't go back in the box.
They have been very traumatized.

Arrrgggh. That's completely annoying!! I wonder if it was the postal service, the shipping department or what...
Of course, it's possible that the Exacto was used in self-defense. Those pesky Gnomes resented the box and made a break for it... assaulted some unwitting mail handler and fought with gnomish determination to make it to the Grand Canyon to rendezvouis with Helvetica's tourists. ("Look honey. A Gnave of Wands!) only to be cruelly bested and returned to their cardboard prison with jabs and insouciance. LOL
Or then again maybe some schmuck cut your cards out of negligence. :( That's deeply annoying, Lark. But I'm gonna believe in the run-for-freedom scenario... Either way, gnomes are sturdy. After a few days in a comfy pouch, they'll be ready for their first day of study group.
Sorry 'bout that.

Scion, it's hard to tell with my mail handler he always looks like he has just been roughed up by a band of renagade Gnomes.
(And liked it.)
I don't think they made it to the Grand Canyon though...
I didn't see any souvenir and Gnomes love souvenirs.
They're having a few pints right now and are all snuggled in for the night in a lime green no-ouch ponytail holder.
Except for the Star card she's looking for ointment and a band aid.

Thanks for the info Rusty.

Yes Fulgour, it has been an all around "iggy" experience.
I was wondering if maybe someone ordered it, opened it like that, didn't like it and returned it to Llewellyn in that condition.
My other four decks are just fine.
Of all the decks I've ordered over the years this is the first time I have recieved anything damaged.
So I have been very lucky so far.
It has given me a chance to bond with the Gnomes, and if they did escape themselves, they are now assured a safe spot in my collection forever.
No trading for them.
Oh...they have picked a lovely red berry colored fabric with dragonflies on it for their tarot bag.
Gnomes have good taste?! Who knew~

So maybe the Star Gnome self-multilated herself as a sacrifice in order to make sure the rest of the tribe was well housed for ever?
Or maybe the little tykes ganged up on her?

Well she certainly is whinning enough...after all it's just a scratch.... geezzz
(just between you and me the Star Gnome is a tad bit "vain")
I did see one of them walking around this morning in a tee shirt that said
I TOOK A DONKEY RIDE THROUGH THE GRAND CANYON WITH HELVETICA...
AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS DUMB TEE SHIRT!
What's that all about?

Well, as Star, you know. Even among Gnomes...
That's very rude of him. That t-shirt was clean and brand new when he bullied a child into giving it to him. Either he got a tourist to scribble all over it or he wrote it himself. There's one sure way to know: if he wrote HELTCIEVA then he did it himself (Gnomes can't spell and are often dyslexic). Besides, he's lying, he didn't take a donkey ride - he STOLE A DONKEY!

Friends of the Gnomes take note:
Gnomes, while it doesn't sell that much right now, has been the best selling deck ever for LS (it was also the first, and, by the way, the deck on which I learned Tarot). The idea for that is that a fresh edition may reawaken the fire. ~ ric Riccardo (Minetti) is an Editor at Lo Scarabeo, and among his
credits is authorship of the companion book for the Fey Tarot.

The best option for you now is to get The Tarot Set
by Jane Lyle ($12.98). Waldenbooks has it, and it is
one of the nicest bargains around ~ an authentic
edition of the 1760 Nicolas Conver Marseille Tarot.
There's lots of threads on this if you do a search...

I ahvent posted on this thread before, but I did order from the $5 sale and I recieved my shipment today. I got a Tarot of the Master, an Esoteric Ancient Tarot, and, guess what, the Tarot of the Gnomes!! They arrived in fine shape and I am very pleased.
So far, the Gnomes are the only ones out of thier cellophane, but the others wont last long. I will have them out tonight after I get the baby into bed and settle down in my tarot chair with a nice hot cup of tea. It seems the perfect day for it as I am NOT going out today with this horrible 10 new inches of snow that has landed in my front yard! At least I have the Gnomes to keep me company!
I have to admit though, after reading through this thread, that I was abit disappointed when I read that the Crystal Tarot was one of the decks that was offered for $5 and I missed it. That deck has been on my wishlist for quite a while.
So, anyway, if anyone decide to start a Gnomes study group, count me in!!

when in fact it was not because it was a small error...
But it would sadden me to imagine you thus dissapointed.
It was on sale, but for $15.95 (down from $19.95) not $5.
The Gnomes have arrived at Aeclectic :) Let's have a party!

Yes, the same thing happened with my Gnomes. My package (I ordered 8 different decks) arrived from Llewellyn yesterday, and all of the decks were still in shrink wrap except for the Gnomes. The shrink wrap on the box was still there, but had been slit at the bottom. When I took the cards out, they weren't wrapped, and they were all out of order. However, they all seem to be in perfect shape, so I'm not too unhappy. Almost all of the deck boxes were crushed a bit around the edges, but all the decks themselves are fine.

Got the March/April New Worlds catalog in the mail yesterday, and OMG the sale didn't end! I bought two more decks (I Ching of Love & Success Deck), and almost got the Tarot of the Renaissance but was able to stop myself. Is there still a tally of how many $5 decks were bought total?
Woo! :)

Ahh...I just checked and you are quite right! My New Worlds catalog came a couple of days ago, and I hadn't even looked in it yet, but there's a whole little section of $5 sale decks inside, the same ones they had in the $5 sale online last month. I already bought the 8 (yes, 8!!!) decks I wanted in the sale online, so this doesn't do me much good now, though...

I think I might get that Witches Spell a Day Book too, the Giotto Tarot, and Tarot of the Renaissance. The artwork on these looks really pretty. Anyone already have any of these?
I'm SO glad that I stubble upon this thread.

Yes, I have the Gnomes, the Giotto, and the Tarot of the Renaissance. The Gnomes deck is cool--very different from anything else I have. And I like the Tarot of the Renaissance quite a lot. Beautiful artwork, easy to interpret. The Giotto I sort of regret buying; the art seems very "cold" and very posed somehow. It's not awful...just not that great.

Evil people, making me reconsider getting anything from this sale! I went and bought 4 decks:
Ancient Tarot of Marseilles
Ancient Tarot of Lombardy
Tarot of Ill Millennium
Giotto Tarot
But hey, I can't complain about the total price of $22. I've been meaning to branch out into historical decks.... (also the fault of people on this forum).

Thanks Annabelle for your thoughts on these decks. I have not been feeling well for a few days so I haven't ordered yet. I may hesitate to order the Giotto deck. I love beautiful artwork, and unique/different artwork, but not sure about "cold". It has to move me ya know? It has to stir something in me. It was hard to tell from the website. But I absolutely loved the Gnomes and the Renaissance ones.
