i am not sure if this is apporiate or not, but i just wanted to post my feelings on ATF. a few days ago, i was bored, and there wasen't much going on here so i decided to do a search for some other tarot groups. i wasn't interested in joining any other group, just wanted to do some window shopping. i was very disappointed in what i found. i was also proud that i found ATF, before i saw any of those groups. the people here, each and every one of you, make an effort to give the group a personality that others would want to be around. i feel priviliged to be a part of this group. even when we must agree to disagree on a topic, everyone here keeps a positive atmosphere with each other. i could write pages on the differences i found, but i am not into bashing others. i just wanted to say a thank you, to everyone here for giving this forum, the great personality that it has. i am sure that there are some other forums out there that try to promote the same atmosphere that ATF does, but unfortunatly i was unable to find one. and to Solandia, let me pat you on the back. you have done a superb job in making ATF, a forum that is in a class by itself.
best wishes to all of you

Since I just finished reding a thread about feedback rules or something like that, and felt kinda weird....
I feel as if lately there has been a lot of word crossing here, and I don't mean that in a nice way....
but now reading your post I see the big picture and I see we are a community that is ALIVE and willing to discuss almost everything that crosses our minds...
thanx Contradiction!

If we don't take "words" personally this place does have some kind of
unseen magic about it. Don't know what it is but it's nice!

Tarot has the power to manifest and generate
Love & Understanding ~ all around the World!
Sure sometimes we get the full spectrum, but
Tarot also brings with it the powers of Healing.

If there were no differences, nor disagreements, I personally would have left ages ago. It would be so boring and stale.
Aeclectic is a good forum. :)

Hi contradiction
I think it's always encouraging when someone joins Aeclectic and has praise for the friendliness of the forum. Of course all communities have disagreements at times which is only natural, but on the whole, many of us wouldn't be here if we didn't feel welcome. Thank you for starting the thread and welcome to one of my favourite places to be.

Hi contradiction,
Well I can't say I've looked at other tarot forums since I came to this site "by accident" LOL. But I can say I thoroughly enjoy being here (my house doesn't since it never gets cleaned now :) ). I think this forum has a wonderful feeling to it, one of being at home, and I can honestly say I've never felt more welcomed anywhere in my entire life.
Blessings to all.

I agree -- I feel at home here, too. It's wonderful to be part of an international community--to interact with people from lots of different countries and backgrounds who share a common interest.

Feeling right at home is one of the main reasons I chose to subscribe. I look forward to getting more involved in posting and learning even more! This is truly a great place to learn and already my deck and book collection has grown! Thanks y'all!

I have been a surfer on Tarot Forums for a couple of years now and I kept coming back to Aeclectic. Finally at the beginning of December I jumped in. Now here is my accolade to ATF. I have like most people only so much discretionary funds to spend..which get eaten up by Deck purchases, Tarot Books and Needlework. I consider everything else I have to pay as GRUDGE money spent... But I am about to subscribe to this Forum..No pain, no Grudge,no doubts. It is a great Forum,seems well run and very friendly and informative. I have logged in every day, laughed, been amazed, learned something, been thought provoked, but most of all my love of Tarot has been rekindled and I am seeing lots of things with new eyes. Thanks everyone. Roll on 2005 Regards Rosanne

I also checked out some other similar sites that didn't have close to the same feel. I've learned a lot in my short time here that I don't think I would have discovered by myself.
Thanks for reminding us that we're lucky to have such a place to explore.
Peace,
April

I find so much stimulation on this forum. I had joined because a friend told me she was enjoying it, but I had not expected to participate so much!
In the past weeks I can think of so many subjects discussed here - a sample:
- Aristotelian vs Platonistic world-view, and their reconciliation;
- two 15th century weddings (one that never took place) giving rise to two tarot decks;
- the nature and style of feedback;
- what a soul card means in reality to a person who has it;
- the sexual imagery of the III of Swords and its link to air, to the mind;
- who the devil is the Devil? and do we love him?
- platonistic and neo-platonistic influences in XI- Strength card; and how that card reminds the reader of kung-fu or Tibetan monks' gathering energy;
- the motherly aspects (or no) of the III-Empress (RWS) vs the III- L'impératrice cards; what is meant by motherhood and fertility?;
- tarot and allegorical literature;
- Wallenstein and his louche character;
- how Tarot is read and interpreted in India (just read a post by eastarot on the Tarot and India thread- absolutely fascinating!)
I can't think of many fora, on any subject, that attracts so much high quality, diverse and profound contributions. And it's fun too!
I agree with Diana, the debates are a definite plus for me.

It's like this... Aeclectic does have it's own atmosphere..never to be duplicated. We are one of a kind as a community. We make friendships here that last. In some cases we actually get to meet the people we talk to here.
There doesn't seem to be any borders here, or classes, everyone is of value to this forum regardless of experience and post count. I think that as a whole we have learned that people are the same in every part of the world. We are truly a diverse culture here, and being so I think we are more conscious of what is appropriate community behavior and what is not.
I find in a lot of forums I have browsed through that good old fashioned manners have been left by the wayside.
Sometimes there areheated discussions, everyone has an opinion, some just voice it louder and some are more elequent than others. I guess it is what keeps us alive, alittle bit of friction, along with the seriousness and silliness. ;)

Contradiction, thank you so much for posting this. I think it serves to remind everyone here of how much we each value this community and each other. This is the most wonderful place on the internet as far as I'm concerned, and I have had the opportunity here to share, learn, and grow with many many wonderful people whom I would have never have had to opportunity to meet otherwise.
I agree whole-heartedly with everyone who posted here about all the wonderful things Aeclectic and Solandia specifically provides to us all. I thank each and every member of this forum for your willingness to share!!

I can not contradict Contradiction at all.
I found AT about a year ago after a disheartening experience in another Tarot forum, but have realized it was a blessing. Since coming here I have learned so much more than I could have at this other place, come into contact with so many great people from all over and just am happy to be here, all the time, even when people disagree...that is what makes this good. That we can have differing opinions without creating unbridgable schisms or be jumped on from all sides for daring to voice our thoughts and views or have to conform to narrow points of view and strict codes. This is a place to grow and encourage further growth in ourselves and each other.
It's like this... Aeclectic does have it's own atmosphere..never to be duplicated. We are one of a kind as a community. We make friendships here that last. In some cases we actually get to meet the people we talk to here. Some of them even get married...congratulations again, Contrascarp and Gardner!
I haven't been to many other Tarot forums, but I did look around for some in the past few years and there is nothing like AT. There are some nice ones, that have a lot to to offer, but in my humble opinion, this is simply the best.
Soldania, thank you for creating this place and to all the members here, I thank you to for all the warmth and caring and sharing of yourselves.
Happy New Year, may it be filled with everything you need to make your lives fulfilling and joyful.

after reading all the post so far in this thread, i began to wonder, "how is it that we found AT, but some of those people that have been mentioned, the one's that don't have the same attitude as we do, have not found AT". once again we see the universe, or the "soul of tarot", or whatever, leading those that truly want to grow. i don't even remember how i found AT while surfing. i wasen't, actually looking for a forum at the time, but somehow i stumbled in here. i guess it all goes back to following your intuation, and allowing yourself to be lead and used.
now i must offer an apology to the moderators, i should have mentioned them in my original post. they are invaluable, and deserve a special thank you. but in my rambling thought process as i was trying to get the right words out, i just lost track of them.

i love this site, the info people have is really great. it seems someone knows something about any deck i could ever think of. and the tradeing post is very str8 foward and honest. i had joined anouther tarot site on yahoo, and i got ripped off on 6 trades in like 30 days! there was a mod but they replayed to my emails at all so i m glad this is a well run site.
also there is alot of interaction wich i love.

This is my absolute favorite message board of any kind on the net. Although every once in a while on here people disagree strongly there is nowhere near the level of disrecpect I have encountered on other boards.
The anonymity of a message board often leads to a lot of ego-based posturing and people venting pent up animosity but people here tend to talk to one another like they would if we were all in the room together.

This is my second home....with all of the implications that belonging to a family has....love, brotherhood, friendship, argument, learning, some dysfunction at times, a safe haven, discussion, debate, great knowledge, hugs, prayers, place to vent and share, and....
TAROT.
"eclectic"....selected from, gathered from various sources...
Understatement, that.
terri
Thank you, Solandia, for having formed a world-wide family that lives on a monster server which offers a community like no other.
Thank you, too, to all of our moderators, for endless hours of reading and, well..... moderating.
