Does anyone have a way of explaining the sub-elements in simple terms to a client? For example, how would you describe the following energies in a reading...
Fire of Fire
Water of Fire
Air of Fire
Earth of Fire

I'm don't always explain things as well I think I do, but I'll give it a go.
I'm assuming that the client understands that the suits correspond to elements. Correct me if I'm wrong. Let's take the King of Wands for an example. The King of Wands is esentially the Kings are ruled by the element of fire, so for our purposes we can call him the King of Fire throughout the deck. When a King is in the suit of wands he is himself, pure and simple But what happens when we take the King of Fire out of his element and put him in a different suit? We can now give him a subtitle such as the King of Fire in Air, or the King of Fire in Water, etc. How is someone ruled by fire affected by placing them in water, earth, or air? That's something readers might have differing opinions on, and I think it might be useful to have the client contemplate it.
That might be a longer explaination than you want, so I'll try a short version. Just asking (yourself or the client) what happens when you temper one element with another may be easier for a client to grasp. Sticking a King in water will probably squelch a lot of his fiery passion, no? Putting out the flame, so to speak.
I hope I made at least a little sense.
Peace,
April

Hi gargoyle_guarded
I don't know simple way, but here is a link to THE BOOK OF THOTH by ALEISTER CROWLEY, PART THREE THE COURT CARDS
http://www.choronzon.com/brainwav/thoth/thoth3.htm
and some exempts from the chapter:
The Knight of Wands represents the fiery part of Fire
The Queen of Wands represents the watery part of Fire, its fluidity and colour
The Prince of Wands represents the airy part of Fire, with its faculty of expanding and volatilising
The Princess of Wands represents the earthy part of Fire; one might say, she is the fuel of Fire
.......
.......
below is from the booklet from the Thoth deck:
the court cards represent the elements themselves, each element divided into four subelements.
Knight of Wands.........Fire if Fire
Queen of Wands.........Water of Fire
Prince of wands..........Air of Fire
Princess of Wands.......Earth of Fire
......
......
