I've been fascinated to read in several recent threads about years being tied up with the Major Arcana. I found out 2 days ago that 2004 for me has been The World ! In fact, this doesn't surprise me. And going back through the years, I see remarkable correlations between the events-inner and outer-in my life that year and the year's card.
My birthday is 6/9 (9/6 in American style) so if I add that to next year, 2005, I get 22, right ? Which added together=4=The Emperor. This is fascinating, as I don't think I have EVER had that card crop up in a single reading. I understand it's about fathers, father-figures, etc. and in the more symbolic sense, characteristics traditionally (stereotypically ?) associated with fathers. I have always had a difficult relationship with my own father. (How do you have a relationship with someone who can't relate ?) There are definitely ISSUES there. Some of which have occurred this year-I suspect they'll be more to the fore in 2005.
Anyone else at this particular transition ? Or anyone who's just been there in 2004 ? I'd be interested to hear experiences.
Also, if I got back to 4, when, if ever, will I get back to 0,1,2 and 3 ?

Perhaps this is your year to deal with those father issues on a deeper level... Interestingly enough, I am no wear near the World/Emperor years, but I think I am also about to be dealing with some MAJOR father issues.
As for returning to year cards, I just assume the process (for those who subscribe to its authenticity or, at the very least, interest) is cyclical. We'll all probably have a few Death years, World years, etc.
Hey, here's an interesting project -- just for fun -- let's go back and look at specific pivotal years and cross-check which Arcan supposedly represented it! Hmmm....Should be interesting...

Ugh -- I misspelled "where" as "wear." Can't let that slide. I'm a Virgo, can you tell?????

I'm a Virgo too. Though I've always felt an atypical Virgo. I'm not practical, to start with. (Ask anybody !) Am I a pedant ? It's just getting things right, isn't it ? ;)
As for going back and matching some years with the suggested card, I have ! And it's a bit unsettling, i.e. accurate. I'll post later-my children are asking for breakfast !

Wow, can I relate to this thread! I am just now finishing my Emperor year, plus my Saturn Return. This has been the hardest, most transformational year of my life. Saturn return is known to be a doozy, and both it and Emperor year involve father issues, and I have loads of them.
I have always had simmering father problems, but this year all the secrets came out and there was a huge confrontation, with my having to end the whole relationship for my sanity. It was a big shock, totally bizarre how it happened. I still have alot of hurt and anger. In the end it is very freeing and had to be done, but I am so looking forward to 2005 and a chance to move on.
I would be interested for you to keep us posted on how the year goes for you. I cannot say for sure that your father issues will come into focus this year, but I would not be surprised.
Next year I am Hierophant, not quite sure what to expect with that.

Hi rosyelf -
Please forgive me for butting in, but I was wondering if there was a different way of calculating the year card aside from Mary Greer's method?
If you use her formulan, you should just be passing out of a Hanged Man year:
9 + 6 + 2004 = 2019
2 + 1 + 9 = 12
Also, in the chart in her book, it appears that you won't see a 1 or a 2 year and that your next 3 year will be 2085. I am just ending my Empress year myself and my next one is due in 2095 ..... strangely, I am about to enter an Emperor year (the Emperor is also my soul card and astrological card ..... perhaps I will be a father in 2005?).

Contrascarpe, how very confusing ! I think I should get hold of a copy of TAROT CORRESPONDENCES and look up several ways of calculating. Then again, I may end up very confused indeed.
I'd be happy to keep people posted from time to time, if that would interest. If I keep encountering Death issues, I'll know why. Maybe I will encounter Emperor AND Death issues ? !

Daneo52, sounds like you've had one hell of a year. Glad you feel freed by it, though ! Maybe it's wisest to just accept there'll be anger and hurt there, perhaps for a long time. But you've looked the monster in the face, that's the thing ! Hope you have a good Hierophant year, building on the lessons learnt in this one.

Just another thought, but 22 - couldn't that also correspond to The Fool?

huredial - yes, 22 is for the Fool (that is my personality card).
roseyelf - yes, this is VERY confusing. I had to do mine several times to make sure I got it right. In Mary Greer's Tarot For Yourself, she includes a handy chart. You were correct that 2005 is the Emperor year for you, strange as that sounds. It doesn't cycle through all 22 cards before it resets. Following is what you face for the next few years (I included up until it cycles over for you):
2004 - Hanged Man
2005 - Emperor
2006 - Hierophant
2007 - Lovers
2008 - Chariot
2009 - Strength (or Justice if you are Thoth-friendly)
2010 - Hermit
2011 - Wheel of Fortune
2012 - Justice (or Strength)
2013 - Hanged Man
2014 - Death
2015 - Hierophant
Then it cycles up again through Temperence before it resets to Lovers.
Hope this helps ..... I am fairly certain it is accurate based on Mary Greer's book.

I understand it's about fathers, father-figures, etc. and in the more symbolic sense, characteristics traditionally (stereotypically ?) associated with fathers. I have always had a difficult relationship with my own father.
The Emperor is also about control, about taking control and being in control. It's about managing and macro-managing not just your life, but whatever it is you're the "boss" over--be it a family, a business, or a kingdom.
I say "Macro-managing" because the Emperor is not about the little things. It's the big picture. How to make it all work.
Watch out, as well, for tyrants or becoming a tyrant yourself. The Emperor can be childish in demands, overly deferred to by others and stubborn. And he isn't one to leave his throne. All commands flow from there. This is a card about foundations, creating them, organizing them, sticking with them through thick and thin.
You may have to deal with such a person (your dad?). Or you may have to deal with such traits in yourself. As much as we may not want to be our parents, we do learn habits, good and bad from them.
