Just wanted to mention that the Barnes and Noble University's free online Tarot for Beginners class session begins anew on February 7th.
Barnes and Noble University - Tarot for Beginners
The class uses the RWS deck and Joan Bunning's Learning the Tarot or you can use the online version of the book at www.learntarot.com.

Thanks for the heads up. I took this course a few years ago and got almost nothing out of it. I was using a deck I hated and just generally wasn't interested. Gave up after the first week or so, and gave up on tarot in general after another week or two.
Now that I'm easing back into things again, I'm going to go and re-enroll, see how things go this time.

I took the BNU course a year ago and loved it....even though I did not get as interactive with the other students as I hoped to, the information was valuable and I liked being able to go at my own pace. My favorite part of the course was getting started with my own tarot journal.

Well, I'm thinking about signing up. I just don't like the Rider-Waite deck at all. Do you really have to use that deck? Just wondering...
And I'm glad the book is available online too. Helps with the cost thing.

I don't think you have to use the Rider-Waite deck. I've signed up for the class and plan on using the Gilded Tarot, unless of course my Fey arives in the mail in the next few days. *crosses fingers* Here's hoping!
I think that the Rider-Waite recommendation is just because that's the deck that most people start with. Go ahead and take the class if you want, and use whatever your favorite deck is; or use a deck you've been meaning to study for a while.

I signed up and used the Hanson-Roberts, which wasn't a problem. I do think you should use a deck with RW imagery.
The class was great, I just have a big problem with Bunning's book and the lessons laid out in it. Different methods of learning, I think. I ended up dropping the class out of frustration, and studying on my own. Then I found Aeclectic. :D
Bunning's system seems to work very well for many, many people, though, and I would recommend trying the class. Nice people there.

I bought the book from amazon for 11 and when I got it..I wasn't too impressed, but it's one of those good to have in a library type of books...Who knows ..maybe I can use it in the future or someone I know may use it?? *Shrug*
I have the Radiant Rider Waite that I will be using..but since I have the Haindl too..I may end up using both of the side by side since I really need to break the barrier I have with Haindl...I think with current situations...I'm just psychological not matured for the Haindl yet.
