Since I've been sick a lot lately (I'm getting much better though!) I've been going around a lot of chat rooms, especually yahoo chat rooms (Username Neoblackdragon if you're really curious or wanna say hi) and as a wishful thought I put on my profile my occupation as fortune teller. Now I haven't thought anything of this, but I have had messages from people not only taking me seriously, but asking for readings and payment details, as in paypal accounts! This has been a shock, something seriously suprising... so it has me wondering if I should set up a paypal account and actually do readings and let them charge to paypal or something. I've brushed them aside thus far telling them I do it on a cash basis, or for one telling her I was in a good mood and did a reading (And she sent me... pictures... as 'payment'... no more comments) but I'm just wondering if its a good idea? Any thoughts for the medicated fortune teller?

So, you became a "fortune teller" without even giving it much thought, it was a whimsical entry on your keyboard. Then, you became a fortune teller with paying clients. Wow. Look, Ma, no hands. It is strange how life's paths unfold isn't it?
If you have the time and the inclination to continue, then why not? The worst that could happen is that you only have one client a month. Perhaps the worst thing that could happen instead is that you have ten clients a day. Would either case be a problem -- or an opportunity -- or a path that really isn't that applicable to where you want to go? Life is full of coincidences, but they are not accidental. They are little miracles of opportunity. Good luck with whatever your choice is. Dave

...but I'm just wondering if its a good idea? Do what feels right for you, in your own way,
and for your own reasons. Whatever follows
will then be part of your being open to others.

"Drop that cough medicine bottle right now, Teranar! Drop it..."
There aren't wrong choices and right choices, just choices we regret and choices we name national holidays after. If it feels right, go with it.
Might have to look you up some time if I every find myself in a yahoo chatroom ;)
Good Luck

"Drop that cough medicine bottle right now, Teranar! Drop it..."
But my doctor gave it to me! It makes me happy!! :P (I take it only to try to sleep and in the perscribed doses.)
I'm thinking of a way to maybe do it via a pay system not with paypal, heard some bad things about them, maybe someone else, but I think I'll go for it. Like you all said, not like I have anything to lose! ;)

It sounds to me like you're sort of meant to do this, the way you eased into the situation of getting requests. :)

Hi Teranar. I also posted here to provide a similar answer about cautions.
As I said in that post, being a tarot reader can be romanticized. One caution I offer in the spirit of helpfulness (not condescension, because I would say it to anyone who asked-- and since you did :)) would be to think seriously about your own boundary system. How are your boundaries with people? If you have good boundaries, tarot reading can blossom and be satisfying. If you're a little "permeable" you may find this work taxing, simply because it seems to attract (only in part) the dependent portion of the population. There are people who will come to you with terribly serious stuff and may imbue you with Delphian oracular responsibility that you may not want to take. Requests for emergency readings and digital-quality oracular sight to rescue the querent from taking any risk can become taxing. There are plenty of querents who will think nothing of spending 100's and 100's of dollars on you, who will want to call you weekly for answers. If you're a "can't say no" person, you will be drained by this dependent energy, not to mention self-conscious about what type of unethical process is being created here.
There wasn't really the internet or phone line option for me when I read years-ago. So, perhaps these new milieus create a certain healthy distance.
Of course, none of what I have to say applies ALL of the time; and some here at AT may not have had that experience. Like I said in my prior post, I was in my early twenties then and had some growing to do.

Thanks Paul And Temperance Angel, I read both the threads... it does have me thinking, I really don't want people to get too dependant on me, so I'd have to set up something like arranged meetings or readings by email (But I don't really feel as comfortable with that.)
And a set price... I forgot about that problem too...
this is a lot, and my happy juice is kicking in, so I shall sleep on this.
(I wonder if I should use my real name? I like Teranar a lot though...)
