I have noticed an interesting and somewhat strange affect that Tarot has had on me in the "every day" world.
When I am in a situation where I have to choose from a selection of similar items, I find that my "Tarot selection mode" kicks in and I scan the items for the particular one that seems to be "calling" me.
For example, this happens to me often when selecting food at a buffet or grocery store. Which hard-boiled egg or chicken wing do I select, which one is sending me vibes to say "pick me, eat me, I'm the one!"?
Of course, I don't "shuffle" through them first, but I do find myself mentally scanning the items just like I would a spread of Tarot cards to select the one that is giving me that inspired feeling.
Any one else have their "tarot mode" activate in non-Tarot situations?

Ah, yes, I never thought of calling it tarot mode, but it's simply that sensing of what would work best in the moment. You're experiencing the inner signal of intuition and responding. Yay!

Something similar happens to me when I am out . If I am in an antique mall, various items will seem like meaningful tarot symbols . For example, a photo of the pope will become the Hierophant, an old urn overflowing with greenery becomes the Ace of Cups, etc.

I have found that intuition is very similar to listening.
Listening to the mental impulses, random thoughts,
things that simply come ~ with acceptance and joy.
Ideas begin as slow shiftings of mental focus, formless
and often "contrary to the job at hand" when analysed.
But if you approach life as if living is the actual purpose,
what fun it is allowing your inner voice to speak freely.
That may be why "sleeping on it" is so magically logical.

Very cool. Do you then interpret those symbols as a real life reading? Why did I come across the Ace of Cups today, etc? It would seem like those must be powerful messages to actually manifest. I'll have to keep an eye out and see if I notice anything like that.
A couple of things I have done in "tarot mode": Inspired by Dirk Gillabel's Intuitive Tarot, I did an exercise to correlate each of the Majors with a Beatle's song. (Don't know what I did with the list, but I remember a few of them.) I also made beaded bracelets to represent each of the Majors.

Do you think that in some way you might be scanning/feeling the energy of these objects before selection? Sort of energy reading?
Am I making any sense? :D

It depends on how unusual it is .

Yes, it's a feeling of opening myself to receive or delight in the energies that the object embodies and is emitting. It's also an attitude to encourage synchronicities or coincidences, to allow the "mundane" to reveal its particular aspect of starstuff.

I often use this 'mode', but I haven't associated it with Tarot (yet). It is, as said, intuition. Feeling what calls more. Making choices, not based on coincidence (which I don't believe in), but by letting yourself be guided by whatever your Force is (God, Goddess, -fill in the blank-).
Since I'm the worst at making choices of any kind, this intuition which has been growing in/on me for quite a while now, is one of the best things that ever happened to me! ;)
Whether it's in small things (cheese sandwich or french toast?) or in bigger things (friend or foe?), once you begin to trust this feeling, trust that it is right, you will see that your life will 'flow' more easily.
Have fun learning to trust your intuition! But don't rely on it blindly. Common sense isn't all that bad, you know. :)
Love and Light,
Athara

I think it is about paying attention, listening to the world. I try to bring people into that experience in my poetry, of really being in the moment, of paying close attention. Tarot mode and poetry mode are real close for me.
