This is one of the short "poems" that Rachel Pollack included for each card in The Shining Tribe Tarot book (Renewed and Expanded), this one is from the 6 of Trees (wands);
" She strides past the whispers,
her pet close behind her.
She walks like a singer,
Through the forest of souls."
I just love the imagery and the flow, it pleases me consistently each time I read it. Thank you for creating this thread, I had been waiting for an excuse to share this with AT.

In 99% of books I've read about Tarot this statement has been made-
"No one knows for certain when, and from where, tarot cards originated" It seems like an ISBN Number ( a requirement of law?) So it keeps me from being a know- it -all and boring others to death.

But it will be in my mind forever. It's from Issue #9 of Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist. Sharquee the Psychic Card Reader tells Hothead,
"You picked the Nine of Eyeballs! You're lookin' in all the wrong places!"

This is an interesting topic ;)
In his book The Crowley Tarot, THE HANDBOOK TO THE CARDS, Banzhaf includes quotations that fit each major arcana card, although not tarot quotes per ce . Some shorter than others.
Here are two of my favorties:
For the :
Solitary man, you are going the way to yourself! And your way leads past yourself and your seven devils - From "Zarathustra' by Friedrich Nietzshe
And the one for the goes like this:
God comes down to earth to found a religion, and the devil comes right after him and organizes it - Vivekanda

Crowley, Book of Thoth, p. 212, on the 2 of Disks:
"One may in fact consider the card as the picture of the complete manifested Universe, in respect of its dynamics."

ROTA TARO ORAT TORA ATOR
translated "The Wheel of Tarot speaks the Law of Hathor"
from Tarot for Yourself, Mary Greer
How can the same 4 letters say so much? Just look at this sentence for a bit, it seems there are so many numerical patterns in it. The first one that strikes you is ROTA and ATOR, the first and last words, and they are mirror images of one another. There's more, just stare at it...you'll see

"...those who circle the mountain, trying to bring others around to their paths, are not climbing."
- Huston Smith, The World's Religions
Not really about Tarot but we can and should apply it from time to time.

I'm partial to a little bit of Crowley's poetry about the Lust card.

Here's a quote that's always reminded me of tarot:
"All who wander are not lost." - J. R. R. Tolkien.
I think Tolkien wrote this in the Lord of the Rings about Aragorn. I like it because to me tarot really is a journey, sort of wandering down the path of life, always learning. Just because we're wandering doesn't mean we're lost. :)

Actually that is: All that is gold does not glitter; not all those that wander are lost.
My favourite, also not strictly tarot but I think about it a lot: Before enlightment a mountain is just a mountain, after enlightment a mountain is just a mountain. Before enlightment one draws water and chops wood, after enlightment one draws water and chops wood.
Helps keep my sense of proportion.

All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses, his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.
Karl Marx
This is about working out what really matters when we only have each other. It always makes me think. It's about being stripped back. What really matters then? In such a place our hidden or lost senses emerge.

Of course! I knew I had it a bit wrong, but my Tolkien books are across the Atlantic at the moment, so all I've got to go on is memory. Thanks for correcting it. (I'm writing it down in my tarot journal now so I don't forget it. :))
