My deepest, most secret, tarot fantasy...

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 25 Feb 2005, and now archived in the Forum Library.

...is to sneak into Gerbear's house in the middle of the night, and go through his deck collection, one by one, including oracles.
*sigh*

I'd have to wear a miner's hat and shine the light on the cards so I didn't wake him up.

I wouldn't take anything! Just wanna' look. :)

What's your deepest tarot fantasy? I've heard the one about covering your bed in all your tarot cards and rolling around on them naked...
Trust me, it's not all it's cracked up to be. ;)

I'd love to have a whole room just dedicated to tarot. Not my bedroom, I mean a room to do readings in (for others, as well as myself) and meditate in.

I have got two sitting rooms, but the kids use one as a room they can take their friends in - that's why I'm never on the forum in the evenings, because that's when the kids use the room (the computer's in here).

I'd like to decorate the room in rich colours and have luxurious fabrics in there. The walls would be a dark red, and I'd use lots of gold accessories - candles holders, cushions etc. Dark purple would also have to be in there! I'd have paintings or prints of the cards from various decks on the walls, and red lights, which are supposed to attract psychic energy. And of course, big, dramatic velvet curtains!

If my kids ever leave home (they tell me they are not going til they are in their 30's so thats at least another 13 years!) I will transform my front room into my tarot fantasy room!

BlueLotus  25 Feb 2005
I haven't had any tarot fantasy until I got to read this post.
So, I started thinking.

Well, for one I fantasize about getting the meaning of all tarot cards in all different positions instinctively, and being able to read a meaningful story that makes sense every time.

I may also fantasize about having tarot become the matter-of-fact, normally discussed topic like the news or the weather , i.e the norm, rather than the exception ,i.e. everyone thinks it is what it is, what we all here know it is, and what its right place should be.

It's interesting to read what others' fantasies are. Can't wait ...!

I love your idea, Tarot Sue. The room sounds lovely. I don't have the space either, but maybe I could make a few modifications to my surrounding environment to make it more like you suggest.

HEY!!! That one was mine! And if you rhink it isn't what it's cracked up to be, then you obviously aren't doing it correctly!

Hey LB have a look at the thread "tarot space" in talking tarot. Rooms being discussed there too.

rosyelf  25 Feb 2005
SongDeva, I love your fantasy scenario, miner's lamp included ! Even at your maddest ;) you are still discreet.

My Tarot fantasy would also be to have a lovely room, just for that purpose, a kind of Aladdin's cave done exactly the way I like it, with fabrics, candles, interesting artwork on walls, etc.-and decks, of course !

My other Tarot fantasy is to be able to come out, really come out as a tarotist (it ain't really coming out if you do it only for people who are also tarotists, right ?)

love

My deepest wish I'm not posting, don't want to jinx it:laugh::laugh:, but Psychic Sue's idea with a tarot parlour - I've had a similiar one for awhile too, so yeah...with astronomy and astrology pictures too..and a slightly oriental feel. Or something 'ethnic' anyways, I love that, and cozy...mmmm. *sigh*

Chubby Mummy  25 Feb 2005
YEAH red paint, black paint, candles....shelves and shelves of quality tarot decks and books...a lovely mahogany table and one of those chairs that massage you while you read the tarot (aaaa bliss)...loft conversion with a window facing the sky so the moon can shine through... patchouli burning in the incense burner while i read for myself and others and study the tarot... (oh and of course a space for my laptop so i can get on the at website!!)...and of course LOADS of time to myself to actually do this...
no interuptions please!!!

Eco74  25 Feb 2005
This gives me ideas.. Lovely ideas...

I've always had a dream of a big house (maids included so I don't have to worry about vacuuming all those soft carpets) with a large library/gallery for art, books, statuettes, stained glass windows, soft lighting, shelves reaching the ceiling and secret passages and nooks.. A bit like any old "horror-castle" but all filled up with magic and light and lovely, beautiful things from all over the world.
A genuine statuette from atlantis, an 'unknown' painting by van Gogh, framed scetches by Michelangelo, marble carvings from ancient times, stoneage instruments laying on shelves, colorful glass-pieces from Morocko, silks from the days of the silk-route through asia...

*snaps back to reality*

Theres a comic by Neil Gaiman where the sandman preserves the magic of the east in a glass ball. Before this happens a grand tour of the palace and the land is given and that is in essense something of what I would love to have.. Not as large ofcourse, and the harem would be a bit different ;).
There are rooms filled with treasure, eggs from the phoenix, magic items and books and ... oh so many things I yearn to touch, to see, whenever I read it.

*reads through the text*

Well, you did ask for the wildest dream... Tarot is but a part of it... *keeps dreaming away*

Dark Inquisitor  25 Feb 2005
In my fantasy I would be wandering around a ruined European castle on vacation . I notice a loose stone and I pull it out. Inside is an old engraved wooden box. I put the ancient box in my handy yet sturdy all purpose wandering bag. I return to the posh hotel where I can open it in safety.

The lock comes loose immediately because it is so old and the wood is dried out. Inside there are tarot cards ! Ones that look strangely just like that partial printing of the Cary Sheet . But this is a real printing - the only one in the world , with all the cards !

But there's not just one deck- there are two complete decks. Meaning that I can sell one for a hell of a lot of money and keep the other! Wait- at the bottom of the box there is an old parchment that explains the real meanings of all cards at last. And it is nothing like anything posted here, or written anywhere else.

I return to the United States and arrange for publication of a reproduction of the deck, and the sale of the genuine duplicate. Then I start on writing the only real tarot book based on the true meanings .

After the reproduction deck is published and the book comes out , I am called selfish, money-loving liar by all the new age prosperity spell worshippers, but I am making so much money it does not bother me at all. Eventually, I sell the extra deck too , so it can go into a museum . And then I make even more money from the sale and the publicity it creates for the reproductions.

temperlyne  25 Feb 2005
ok dark inquisitor... now thats also my fantasy!
I'm booking a holiday in the proximity of ruines inmediately!

ncefafn  25 Feb 2005
I'm reading Tarot at a table in Frank & Musso's Grill in Hollywood. Surrounding me are Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, Viggo Mortenson, Tom Cruise and Tobey Maguire. They're each begging me to leave the cards and run off with them, and fighting amongst themselves to see who will get to win the hand of the fair maiden. I deal a card from the deck for each one of them:

Keanu - Nine of Wands. No, sorry, I'd constantly be on the defensive for other women wanting to poach on you.

Johnny - The Empress reversed. Uh-uh. You're just too needy.

Viggo - Strength. Hubba hubba. Maybe, baby.

Tom - The Chariot reversed. This relationship's going nowhere fast.

Tobey Maguire - Ace of Swords. No, too critical.

I'm about to give the nod to Viggo when the door opens. A figure stands outlined against the harsh light of the California sun. The door swings shut, and my eyes struggle to adjust to the darkness again. And then I see him, striding toward me, eyes blazing, nostrils flaring. It's Andy Merrill! He pushes Viggo out of the way, kneels at my feet and says, "Darling, I've come for you, it's time."

And I run off to marry Andy Merrill, aka Brak, and walk down the aisle to the tune of "Crazy Lovesick Fool."

The End!

Maelin  25 Feb 2005
Oh good, that leaves Viggo for me! Only its the Hanged man - all that different perspective...

Flavio  25 Feb 2005
I'd love to have a Tarot deck with animated characters pretty much like the "chess" game in Star Wars or the pictures in Harry Potter movies newspapers, so depending on the spread positions the characters would interact, and I would explain those interactions to the Querent. I don't want the cards to do "automatic readings" I just want them to be animated like a small theater play to increase the appealing of the reading experience.

rainwolf  25 Feb 2005
Oh thats a great idea! It would be so accurate and involved, i would have such a cool job since i would make that a profession!!

"See the swords slowly penetrating the man's back? I think its telling me that you are heading for a burnout..."

Satori  25 Feb 2005
Well, I've read several fantasies that could be mine....but ncefafn if you could have thrown in Matthew McConaughy I'd have voted for yours as mine immediately.

I also like the Dark Inquisitor's fantasy.

I could see something like that happening.
Or I inherit a locked trunk, and it is full of decks, 1st editions, all OOP, doubles all, perfectly preserved. But included in the trunk, are paintings and writings for a deck that was never published.......circa, I don't know.......

And I publish it and call it.....Claudia's Supercool Tarot!

edit:
My secret:I don't have a deep most secret Tarot fantasy.
I'm just standing on the shoulders of your fantasies.
But starting now I could start working on one.......

Nevada  25 Feb 2005
I like all your fantasies, including and especially Viggo. :)

May I have them all please, PLUS the chance to explore all my favorite Tarot decks in the same way Robin Williams' character was able to live inside his wife's paintings (wet paint and all, please) in What Dreams May Come.

Thank you. ;)

Cerulean  25 Feb 2005
...all the wounded leftovers are glumly looking at their tarot cards and they spot me walking with six sisters from Salt Lake...I seem the most approachable and am holding the Most Beautiful Tarot in the World, so the Hawaiian one falls on his knees and begs,

"Oh most beautiful cards! I have a copy of them in my villa on Kawaii. I also have the original playing cards from the Portugese in Nagasaki--they were transported through my ancestors in the Meiji era..."

I stop and ask a few questions and by my questions, he and I know both the twain has met. The most Beautiful Tarot in the World pulls the North and South together and Portugese-Nagasaki cards were destined to unite East and West in Gaming History.

Everything is posted for free on the internet; people begin to discover card treasures in their own home town and also post them for free on the internet. The economy undergoes a radical change and many indigenous peoples are free to be indigenous and entitled to sell copies of their art in card decks that inspire role playing gamesters and publishers to develop cultural appreciation knowledge cards. Gamesters and publishers pay the royalties to the indigenous by developing cultural centers for Spirit of Place Awareness and Appreciation.

Others with special interests develop their own oracles and tarots, but the Most Beautiful Tarot in the World is still the bestseller, as it started a cultural revolution. The Portugese-Nagasaki cards are enshrined in their hometown and in honor of this, all pollution-free, cheap power alternatives are developed instead of petrochemical and nucleaur resources.

As an unexpected byproduct, every antique print of dogs or cats playing games of cards becomes a rare and valued treasure. My modest reward for all this is to be the first Sotheby consultant to travel worldwide and evaluate tarot cards. And as a byproduct, I also made a comfortable fortune selling off the dogs-playing-poker-print smiling at me right now in our den.

Oh, and the Hawaiian? He can call every week, acknowledging my beauty and expertise, but of course he'll have to wait another lifetime or two.

Cheerfully outrageous,

Cerulean

Wonderful! Can't you see the five of cups, the fellow sitting under his tree, ignoring the floating cup, and the fellow in the seven of swords yells " oh for God's sake, man, do something" reaches over and grabs the cup dropping a couple of swords. Somewone else would be yelling at the page of cups " It's a fish, get over it!" And the knight of swords would be galloping through all the other backgrounds! I love it!

An original 78 card Oswald Wirth deck plucked from his recently discovered secret vault, complete with documents bequeathing the said deck to a one Mesara of Washington State.

With my new deck in hand I shall dominate- I mean, uh, SERVE the community with my dazzling and incredibly insightful readings. My house with newly renovated tarot parlour shall become a beacon for the lost and misguided souls searching for one they can trust and give lots and lots of money to.

My secret wish: to have even a modicum of artistic ability, so I could create my own tarot and be visually satisfied with the results. As it stands, I can barely trace a rectangle around a box lid.

Ah, well -- lucky for me, there are plenty of other folks out there with the talent and vision to keep me happy with the decks they create for quite a while.

Okay, I've given this much thought (about 5 minutes) and I'd like to steal Rosyelf's tarot fantasy (well, she had two anyway :) ) and add that it really would be wonderful if I could share Tarot with my loved ones and do readings for my family (how wonderful if my Mum came to me asking for a reading!) - so they could see how wonderful Tarot is...alas, for the moment, this one is very strictly in the realm of fantasy (as opposed to those ones about Viggo and Keanu :) )

On a Hill by the Sea- a Temple with frescos themed on Tarot. Beautiful gardens and sculptures on Tarot, fountains and shady places. People could stay and rest and think and talk and read and ask and laugh and one by one work towards World Peace. The word would spread about The great Tarot Centre and Bill Gates would continue to fund it.

Any and all aeclectians would be welcome ofcourse.

The castle (and the library/gallery) would be large enough for everyone, I'm sure.
Just be sure to bring your favourite decks and plenty of writing/drawing-material. You would be wanting to make lots and lots of notes and scetches. ;)

That way it would be continously enriched by more ideas, creativity and knowledge and that is the only way to keep the dream alive. :D

There's an SF novel called "Nova" by Samuel Delaney, in which Tarot cards are indeed animated, though they don't interact between cards. So, with that in mind, I'd love a deck like that, too.

...though I have been learning Flash for my job, and the possibilities to create a digital animated deck is there... I just need three things: greater knowledge of Flash, deeper understanding of tarot, and time to make it happen!

I believe Cirom has stated that his "Tarot of Dreams" (his followup project after the Gilded Tarot) will include a CD along with the printed cards, and that the tarot images included on the CD will be animated. More info here, I believe:

P.S. -- I've been more off than on the boards recently, thanks to numerous work and personal obligations... so this is the first time I've seen one of your posts, graylensman. But the minute I saw that handle, I knew you'd be an SF fan... and definitely the type that would know the classic stuff like Delaney. :)

graylensman  28 Feb 2005
Jeannette

thanks for the link to the marchetti page. What I saw of the animated Empress card is close to what I had imagined, though my own personal style is much less realistic and more iconic (not quite the word I'm looking for...perhaps I'll have to post up work).

I'm doubly impressed you caught the meaning of my handle - though I must admit it speaks more to aspiration - I don't have jets enough to swing Lensman's Load...

So in an attempt to stay on thread, I'd like to develop an SF tarot that draws on the archetypes and mythic figures that are starting to entwine themselves in the collective unconscous, but doesn't draw specifically on a particular SF universe (e.g. Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune, etc.).

That would be very cool! You can add that one to my fantasy list!

There have been a few SF-oriented tarots created (I mean aside from fan-created theme decks -- of the Star Trek/Star Wars/etc. type that you stated you'd want to stay away from). Some more successful than others. To my way of thinking, one of best is the Tarocchi del Futuro -- an OOP Lo Scarabeo majors deck based on the Italian Nathan Never comic book. It's got some surprising depth to it.

The Tarot Garden advanced search feature allows for a Category/Theme search on SF decks. But I sure wouldn't mind if it the list it brings up was a lot longer. :)
