Reading for readers

I had a most wonderful experience yesterday and wanted to share.

I sat down with a new client yesterday afternoon, and, as usual, asked if he had ever had a reading before. I always ask to open the conversation and let the client know what to expect and not to expect from my readings. It also helps to know if the client is new to tarot and/or metaphysics, or if they have an understanding of the "lingo," as I try to speak the client's language.

Turns out, he was a reader - had been for years - and he laughed and promised that he would be a "good client" and try not to second-guess me while I was reading. It was a wonderful experience, and I learned a few things about the cards during our conversation (always do).

But the brightest lesson was in how to receive a reading. I'm just a guilty as the next person when it comes to going in for a reading, and then trying to put my own spin on the reader's cards, completely ignoring what the reader is saying. He came in, was completely open to hearing what I had to say, and was engaged in the reading (as opposed to testing me), and gave me validation where he was able.

It was a real eye-opener, and reminded me that professional courtesy works on both sides of the table.

Wonderful! Thank you for sharing this with us!

Myself, I have given up the idea of trying myself to interprete the cards someone else reads for me, let him do the work, that's what he's up to... and besides, I am always open to insights and learn a lot more about the cards this way.

But I have this friend who never listens to me, she is a reader too, and often asks me to pull a card or ten ;) but then she never listens to my interpretation, as soon as I name the card (we often do this on the phone), she rushes in and tells me *her* interpretation.

This has annoyed me often enough, so that I now just refrain from naming the card and just tell her my interpretation directly ;)

Thanks again for sharing this nice experience!

Love

I know what you both mean. :D

I receive a lot of readings from my good friends, but they have very different views on the Tarot, and often have completely different interpretations to me when the reading's on the table... But it is usually very accurate anyway. Sometimes there will be a time when I can see something in a card very personal to me, which my friends wouldn't be able to, so I tell them that so it helps them along, but I try and keep my tongue in my head whenever I want to second-guess. :D I don't like it when people do it to me, after all!

Makes you wonder if the magic is in the reader's interpretations of teh cards, or in your own interpretations of the cards with reference to your life...?

Blessings,

Kiama
