Hi,
Im quite new to the Tarot, studying hard and enjoying every minute.
There are a few questions id like some advice and help with please.
Dealing the cards.
I was shown to deal (as though i am sat across from the querent) to my left, which would place the first card at the persons right. This is imagining i am using a 3 card spread. Second card would then go central, the third to the sitters left.
If this is correct (or maybe you deal anyway you find right to yourself) then if i am reading to myself, would i deal right, centre, then left? It just seems a little strange dealing backwards.
As im typing this i think ive answered my own question, but i would be interested to see peoples opinions.
Ask a question.
When you carry out a full reading, for example a 10 card Celtic, do you ask the querent what they would like to know first? By that i mean, is there a certain aspect, such as love, they would like more details on.
Or do you just start to read the cards, then find they will start to interact more and ask questions which you can work with as the reading progressors.
Significator.
When do you use a significator?
Is it just for certain spreads? I guess you let the querent intuatively pick this card from the deck.
Thanks
Dylan

Gosh Dylan, I never thought of turning the cards round when reading for myself! You got me there ! I deal left to right (Querants right to left) and left to right when I read for myself, and it has always worked.
I usually ask the querant if they have a specific question. It's been discussed before on the forum, but I think some querants expect you to be a mind reader! Having said that, you certainly can read completely "cold" and produce some very accurate results that way. The cards will inevitably pick up the area of the question the querant has.
I dont really use significators. I've tried using them and I don't think they really add anything. If you know enough about a person to know who their significator is, then why do you need one? Perhaps I've missed the point of using a significator so I'll be interested to read others replies on this point.
Hope that helps anyway.
Regards,
Sue

Much of what you are asking about has to do with
getting things up to the moment when "the cards"
are finally all there on the table, kinda nuts & bolts.
Tarot readers have the experience to appreciate that
preparation is very important, and those mechanics
take practice and have a lot of purposeful meanings.
1. The Question: Let the querent decide if they want
to ask you directly, or just think of something inside.
2. Shuffling and dealing in your own way comes with
practice and experience. Let it come unforced to you.
3. Significators can be a lot of fun, and help to bring
the querent into the spirit of the moment. Still, they
seem to be a little bit contrived if made too much of.

PS to my last post.
I was told that the in the celtic cross, the crossing card should always be read as upright (not reversed).

A lot of people want the querent to sit right next to them so they don't have to have cards turned around to show, or be looked at upside down by the other person.
You lay them out for yourself to read, so the cards will all be in front of you in the spread position facing yourself, not arranged for the person across the table to see in the correct postion from their point of view. You're doing the reading so basically the spread faces you.
Since the Celtic Cross is more of a general spread, it can be used for semi-specifics, but if someone wants a tight answer on relationships or money or jobs, I'd look for a spread focusing on those. A folder of spreads comes in really handy for this, you just pull out the spread format you need and use that as a guide.
It's usually a personal choice whether to use a significator card. I don't, I feel that it tends to pull a card out of the deck that may be needed elsewhere. But there is also the option of having a second deck there that you can let a person pull a card out of to stand for themselves & use that with the first deck in a reading. But since you know who you're doing the reading for, is it necessary to have a significator card in use at all?

I dont even want to get started on card directions LOL Theres a thread on that...http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=15119
As for significators, i think they are useless
I dont really understand the ''ask a question'' part, i just ask about a situation and read the cards in the CC, at least thats how i thought u did it and its always worked for me...
