Are you addicted?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 03 Mar 2005, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Ahria  03 Mar 2005
I was thinking since there are so many other list of questions to tell if you are addicted - lets see if you addicted to AT? (I'll do a seperate one for tarot :) )

Please post your score afterwards.

1. Do you log into AT at least every second day?
2. If your internet connection is down do you find yourself very frustrated that you cannot come say hello/read/post?
3. Do you refresh to see if any new posts have been made to where you have posted?
4. Do you have more than two threads on your watched list?
5. Your inbox/outbox has more than 50 items?
6. You find it hard to decide what to delete out of your inbox/outbox?
7. You know more than three members first names?
8. You get excited to see, in your normal email, a notification that you have a new PM?
9. You browse the deck section for hours trying to decide which deck to get next?
10. You have no idea what your life would be like without AT?

If you reply yes to 1 - 4 of these questions you might be addicted. If yes to 5 - 6 you are addicted. If more than 8 - well lets hope you never lose your internet connection for you will have terrible withdrawal symtoms :D.

Oh if you feel there are any question I have missed - add yours :P

PS My score is 10. I die over weekends *sob*

Phoenix Rising  03 Mar 2005
yes I know I'm addicted, first thing in the morning when I wake up and last thing at night, and then there is inbetween, and when I get my Broadband probably all day!

I enjoy chatting with a couple of my best AT buddies. And seeing what chaos I can cause, or something!

closrapexa  03 Mar 2005
Hmmm, well my answers are as follows:

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

And I log on every day. Hell, here at work i keep the window open and refresh it once in a while if there are threads that I want to be up to date on...

Can anyone help me?

Ahria  03 Mar 2005
Maybe if we have enough people we can petition for a forum for a support group ;)

psychic sue  03 Mar 2005
I posted an apology the other day in the Chat section, because of all the posts I am clocking up.

I'm hoping that it's just the first flush of enthusiasm as I am new here!

But after doing the addiction quiz I'm not so sure! ;)

Edited to say: Maybe someone could draw up a 12 step programme???

closrapexa  03 Mar 2005
But that would mean actually logging on to the forum to treat an addiction to the forum })

DollieAnna  03 Mar 2005
Wel I scored a zero. I guess I like the forum but I am not addicted. That is good, cuz I would be unable to take time off from work to go to ATF rehab. lol.

psychic sue  03 Mar 2005
I'm off work at the moment, so am free to indulge my addiction.

What happens when I go back? I don't have internet access ???

(breaking out into a cold sweat and trembling)

H E L P!

That was the point :)

Hmm 12 steps - will have to work that one out...

I am at work pretending to be really really busy :P

similia  03 Mar 2005
Ha, very amusing. I'm a 5 so moderatly addicted. I tried patches for a while, didn't take.

Milfoil  03 Mar 2005
Oh dear . . . clearly I'm hoplessly addicted! (can you get a score of 16?? LOL)

Shoot me now!

huredriel  03 Mar 2005
I got an 8, so yes addicted, but at least it wasn't a 10 *sigh of relief*, although I don't hold out much hope of retaining the 8, I will eventually start getting more decks :D

We will just hook up a IV for you and feed AT directly into your bloodstream :)

WolfSpirit  03 Mar 2005
I have actually less than I expected... :D

1. yes
2. yes
3. no
4. no idea, never check it
5. yes
6. no
7. yes
8. yes
9. no
10. yes

DollieAnna maybe you can moderate a support group - just don't be too hard on us. I fear we might transfer our addiction to you though })

seneris  03 Mar 2005
Well, I guess that I'm not addicted to AT then...
I only answered 'yes' to two questions. I LOVE getting PM's! I get very excited when I see that I got one, it makes me very happy...

Annabelle  03 Mar 2005
I scored a 7, so I'm definitely addicted. Even on busy days when I don't have much time to post, I still log in pretty often just to see if I have any PM's and to click the New Posts link and see what's been going on. And I've lost count of the number of times I've browsed through the entire deck list, trying to decide what to add to my wishlist (as if it isn't too long already).

OakDragon  03 Mar 2005
I only scored a 9 out of 10. :D I don't scour the deck section for hours, but only because I happen to have a good idea of what decks I want from having seen and heard about them various places.

psychic sue  03 Mar 2005
Well I'm the kind of person who gets excited at the thought of a new text message on my phone - even if it's just to tell me my top-up has been successful. You can image what a pm does to me!

Free Flight  03 Mar 2005
Yep well I am an 8. I have been denying this each time I log on but now i have to face up to the truth!

contradiction  03 Mar 2005
i am going to give myself an 8. i don't spend hours in the deck section, but i do spend hours hitting the new post link, just to make sure i don't miss anything. there was a few others that i reworded a little so it fit me. but AT is like my cigarrettes, i'll quit when i die. i'm addicted and i know it, and i don't care. i like being addicted. i have to log on and check the new post even when i don't have time, like right now.

Solty Dog  03 Mar 2005
I got a one, so by the question's standards, I'm not that addicted. But I have this "one more deck" idea in my head. I only get that with addictions, or as my wife calls it, my obsessions.

In a completely unrelated note, my new deck arrives next week. This is only the third one since I completed my wish list. :)

I am a 7... actually i was surprised at such a low number...hehe I guess I am not as bad as I thought

The gum doesn't work either ;)

Simone  04 Mar 2005
Believe it or not, I am a 6 })

(counting out the inbox/outbox section because I clean them up regularly and have no hard time deciding what to keep or not ;) I save them on my computer hehehe)

I also do not scour the deck sections as I mostly get confronted with what I want / need in other ways.

And, having been deprived of computer and internet access for a few weeks last year, I know it gets better after a while... like heartbreak, or other bad thingies. Time heals it all, so I know how it can be :D

Ok, honestly, I'd be an 8 then...

Love

The first step is admitting it ;)

purple_scorp  04 Mar 2005
Well, who was here when the hacker attacked??? ATF was offline for a couple of days.......how did we survive? I remember somebody started a thread about what we all did instead of coming here.

I'm not addicted (which according to the Oxford mini dictionary means doing or using something as a habit or compulsively; devoted (to a hobby or interest) but I do love coming here :)

Ohhh don't scare me like that purp! What if it happens again !!!!!

purple_scorp  04 Mar 2005
Dear ps,

well, I'm sure Solandia has installed a ton of software that would stop another attack like that.

Worse case scenario.....we could chat offline ;).

SunChariot  05 Mar 2005
Well, I have to say I fit your definition for addition to AT. But who could blame me, it's such a great place to be.:-)

I'm not addicted but the Cosmic Toaster is.

Alta  06 Mar 2005
Interesting test. It would appear that I am a 7.5. I am not clear in my own mind whether or not I could face life without ATF. I do keep my Inbox clean. I do recall the hacker attack. I spent quite a lot of time on the main pages in that period since the Forums were dead.

I think by definition all moderators are addicted else how would you become a moderator :P

Can someone who does not know the Cosmic Toaster really be addicted?

Hey I have a addictive personaility borderling on stalking, I never do understand those court orders all I was trying to do was be friendly ;)

K I have done the Cosmic Toaster search and my head is spinning I sort of understand *I think* I feel very confused at the moment *need to go and book another aromatherphy massage* Hate it when you start with one question and end with 40 more....

bleuivy  07 Mar 2005
Wow - I'm only a 7. I was expecting an 8 or 9.

I don't hit refresh to see if there are new posts in threads I'm stalking. I just have a VERY long watched list. :P And the New Posts button is my friend.

Overall, I cannot believe how I did anything with tarot before I found AT.

Sniff. I love you guys. :)

bleuivy  07 Mar 2005
PS -- Anyone want to try to explain the Cosmic Toaster? :P

Isn't the cosmic toaster that from which great knowledge pours, pop in the bread and out comes toast. The bread's interaction with the toaster means that knowledge will change its perception (or appearance). But then what do I know, not been around here for very long :D

Hmm. That does make sense, Huredriel.

Hee - I like food-related metaphores. They feel so cozy. :)

Ahria  07 Mar 2005
Food being cozy - hmmmm I thought I was well... nevermind :) *joke*

Somebody please give me the low down about Cosmic Toaster it is driving me insane and I need to sleep tonight :D

No no! I think it's good that wasn't a question! If it was, I know I would have been one point more addicted. ;)
