We had a woman like that where I live who used to do readings and such out of her home and got busted for telling people they had negative energy or maybe she said aura can't recall anyway and would charge $50 to clear it. Talk about having negative energy.

DarkElectric  16 Mar 2005
Good heavens, people are still falling for this bogus old scam.

And I'm sure that for every one who gets caught, there are 3 out there who are still doing this awful stuff and getting away with it, but I sure hope not.

I've heard so much about this "Negative Energy -B-Gone for a mere $200, 300, 500 " ploy. It happened here in New England a lot more several years ago than it does now. The local effect it had was that people lost money and were turned into confirmed skeptics, and legitimate psychics lost business, because of all the anti-publicity the con artists got in the news.
This is a scheme where everybody loses. Yuck.

WalesWoman  16 Mar 2005
I'm sure there's a much better way to get rid of the negative energy...run, don't walk from the one telling you about yours.

I swear for every star there is a black hole sucking the light from the universe.

I can just see me one sad day forking over my dusty car
to be 'cleansed' along with my credit card, I mean well,
who wouldn't want a clean car and a balanced account?

DarkElectric  16 Mar 2005
Unfortunately, if you did such a thing you'd end up with a "cleaned" account, and a balanced car... Balanced on it's tires, headed out of town in the middle of the night on the run from the cops! :P

I can't believe people fall for this!

It just reminds me of our responsibility to the people we read for. Some really do hang on every word we say.

These fraudsters really annoy me, because they give people like us a bad name.

These people are obviously looking for spiritual guidance, it's very sad to see them being taken advantage off in such an outrageous and callous way. I hope these scam artists get put away for a long time. That Marks woman sounds like a lifelong fraudster.

firemaiden  17 Mar 2005
Oh boy... While I do feel sorry for the lady who handed over $22,000.00 in money and goods to a shyster, I have to wonder what kind of silly thinking allowed her to do this in the first place. Yes, it's horrible to take advantage of people, yes the bad lady deserves to go to jail, but... ultimately no amount policing and government protections can replace common sense. Jeez...

psychic sue  17 Mar 2005
Yes Firemaiden that is true, but some people are more vulnerable than others, and saying that you have a negative aura around you can play their mind. I know exactly what you mean, and I certainly wouldn't part with my money for that reason, but I think we have to empathise with these people.

That's what annoys me so much - these con men/women pick on the most vulnerable in society for monetary gain. Makes my blood boil.

I live near a city very well known for it's collection of psychics(sp) & it's generally known that most of them are frauds, but sometimes when you're desperate, for example, when you're in debt, or right after a death, maybe in the middle of distracting relational problems, then you don't always see what's right in front of you & you're willing to do anything to make it better. Like those people that go to the spirit contacters who play tricks on them to seem legit.

It's sad that you have to remain skeptical when you meet these people, & a lot of people are skeptical of me when they ask for readings. I don't take it personal. When I first got into tarot & bought my first deck, I talked with this woman about teaching me to read the cards, & you know what she told me? She says, try to get your mark to loosen up enough so they start talking & do you're best to read them. Most of the time they don't know what the cards mean, so you can make up anything & make it fit with whatever they want to hear.

I was so disturbed by that I almost threw away my deck. Just goes to show what people are willing to do on both sides of the fence.

I am so with psychic sue here.

There is a whole bunch of folks who work tirelessly to shut all of us down (just do a web search for James Randi – who’s latest target is Sylvia Brown). As far as they are concerned we are all frauds.

(Unless we pay dues to their little magic club, then we can do whatever we want – including fraudulent activities AND get away with it – cuz we paid our dues and have the membership card).

rabidwolfie  17 Mar 2005
In my own personal opinion, Sylvia Brown doesn't strike me as a person that knows what she's talking about. Although she does talk a lot. LMAO

I've seen her in action a few times, including but not limited to informercials & a talk show (I forget which one) & while what she says sometimes makes sence, that doesn't make it right. Again, this is just my opinion, but I tend to see her as genuinly knowing something, but misinterpreting what she knows. I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me & that's alright. I get into arguments over legends as well. It's insane how many people believe in hollywood's versions of vampires & werewolves. I get a kick out of that.

For some reason your debit card has been the focus of a voodoo curse. I will need to have your card and the pin number, as the ritual involved will require it to be inside of the money machine.

Sometimes a side effect occurs during the ritual that causes some or in one case, all of the money in that account to go missing. That is the amount that the spirits require to assist in removing this curse.

BTW, I also noticed that an evil spirit has attached itself to your house key. Would you let me see it for a minute so I can encapsulate here in my hand made special spiritrack wax mould?

Ok. Here is your key back.

The charge is $50 for these services. Oh, I don't like taking cash on the premisis, I would prefer a personal check. This is your home address here on the top, right? And it is up to date? GREAT!!! I will have your card back to you tomorrow and everything will be all better!

Very sad situation! I don't know how these people live with themselves after taking advantage of someone!

Everyone is gullible .. but one would think that reason and logic would override being stupid...but then again - look where I work! People throw away hundreds of dollars on the pull of a lever hoping to be made rich ... yeah, right.

You would think that in this day and age that anyone - believer or not - would be highly skeptical of that old "YOU HAVE BEEN CURSED! GIVE ME $10,000 AND I WILL REMOVE IT FROM YOU!" line!

People still fall for it all the time ... **shakes head**

April  17 Mar 2005
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

$22,000? Come on! I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy. Wait, I'm not sorry! I don't care what kind of downturn your life has taken, $22,000 is unacceptably stupid. My mother would knock me upside the head, and then my dad would hit me on the other side. Maybe that's what these people need, to have some sense knocked into them. If people would just take 5 seconds out of there day to weigh their decisions the world would run more smothly. There is a line between being taken advantage of and not knowing the difference between right and wrong or real life and fantasy land. Grown-ups should be smarter than this. I hope these people learned a hard lesson. And I also hope that winning a lawsuit won't make them forget that lesson. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

It's not the fake psychics that make me lose faith in humanity, it's the people that STILL fall for them.

Grrrrrr!
