This is off a vendor's description of a deck of tarot cards (Aquarian Tarot, Morgan Press) listed on eBay.
I'd be interested in people's comments about haunted decks and if they've ever had similar experiences.
Haunted Aquarian Tarot Cards. Not For just Anyone!!
"This Tarot Deck is being sold with no refunds or no returns, winner takes all responsibilty for this purchase". Here it is, the facts behind this item. This Deck of tarot cards came to me in an old trunk 3 years ago from an Estate auction along with some old books and other strange items. I am not much into paranormal or understand its powers "maybe this is my weakness in owning the deck?" I do know for a fact that when I held the deck I would get shortness in breath and get a frightened feeling and strong, very powerful energy came from it. My mother is into paranormal and the field, she always claimed that psychic powers ran in the family. I myself never cared to tune into this or perhaps the energies are a bit frightening to accept. I took the deck to my mother to see what she would say. She also felt strong energies and admitted the powers and the spirits linked to this deck were much too powerful for her and she also was in fear of this deck. We shuffled through the cards and I myself admit several of the cards did give me visions and broke me out in a cold sweat. My mother told me to get rid of them right away. I did not want to destroy them or toss them off for several reasons and that is, I felt this deck deserved a respect and understanding that I could not rightfully provide or cared to. I did not want them to end up in the wrong hands, for fear of people without understanding and the ability to deal with them. I took them home, put them on a shelf and tried to forget about them until I could find someone who was willing and powerful enough to take them into their possesion.
(Just a few things that my family expierenced while these cards have remained with us) A few friends of my mothers came over to examine and possibly take the deck, but all agreed it was beyond them and told me to find a *proper understanding place and person to take them* The deck is found in places it was not left in, even when none of us have touched it, Bad reacurring dreams, dreams of spirits trying to communicate with us, bumps in the night, cold, erie, not alone feelings in the rooms the deck was in. Movement of shadows and an older man vision moving about our house. Shortness of breath and overwhelming spiritual feelings while touching or holding this deck. I have never allowed my children to touch the deck yet it seems to end up within their reach when I know I have hidden it out of reach and safely. The deck seems to draw to people, and it scares me for my childrens sake. They became ill once after I found them playing with it, my son suffered a severe asthma attack shortly after one incident and to this day suffers from asthma, we hope this clears up once the deck leaves our home. (The list goes on) I did try to abandon the deck in a recent move (Not a good choice) For the last 4 months I thought the deck was safely left behind us, and discovered it this morning while unpacking boxes.. I assume it was not willing to be left behind? I am in fear again of strange occurences and want this deck to go to someone who can deal with its powers and can understand the spirits that come with this deck. This deck and its spirits deserve proper respect and understanding that I am not wanting to focus on. Last I point out, I was always a sceptic of the paranormal or held neutral with the idea and never wanted to try to tune into psychic powers. I am afraid the deck might pick up misguided energies and feelings my family might have. This deck has opened my eyes and not by choice.
High bidder please take caution and give this deck respect and understanding, I am certain these spirits or powers of this deck are reaching out to communicate and be understood. I do not know if they are evil, good or just misunderstood but they are trying to communicate something and do deserve to be heard by the right person. Which I am not!! Buyer pays $5.00 shipping. NO RETURNS PLEASE!!

I have not seen that particular one, but I have seen a number of other 'haunted' decks on ebay, usually in America, and a few times from the same seller! I have also seen other 'haunted' stuff, including an old bag and a plastic doll.
It is possible that the seller genuinly believes what they are saying.
It is also possible that they are insane.
However I generally think that it is an attempt to get £50 for a £5 deck. (or dollars or whatever.)
Everyone sing the song now.
(To the tune of the Monty Python Spam song)
Scam, scam, scam, scam...

Well.....I'm wiccan and believe in energies......BUT!
If this guy wanted to get rid of it that badly....he wouldn't be auctioning it off for profit. So, in my opinion.....I think this is just a ploy to perhaps boost the bids...some are drawn to this in a very big way and would pay big bucks to pick something like this up. All he needs is a couple of people like this to come along and boom....there goes the bidding sky high. I don't know....I get this strong feeling that this is just a ploy. Otherwise, if it has really had that kind of affect on him/her and their family.....it wouldn't exist right now..it would be ashes....that's MHO anyway.

Buyer beware?
Hey, they're only 5.99... LOL I might buy them just because that's a good price for a deck... and if they really are haunted all the more reason to have them!
I'm watching them :)

...but the seller had a bit of a computer virus problem, so it took a little longer for her to send it to me. She even paid extra shipping to get it to me faster until her computer systems recovered and she tested her email for worm/virus infections.
My deck came with original box and booklet, excellent condition. The seller wrote all of these things in her description, so I bought it and felt it was worth the price.
The Aquarian from Morgan Press is not highly sought after by collectors as far as I know, so here are some reasons one seller might write such things:
1) Stories sell items that move slowly. The Ghost in the Jar was a transparent jar of air, I believe, with a similar 'haunting' story on ebay.
2) Frustrated and imaginative people do sincerely believe their stories. Notice also it is a good reason not for the seller to say they do not accept a return the item if the buyer believes it defective.
While the above is my opinion only, I do recall that a slow-moving "James Bond Tarot" (Tarot of the Witches) title had a similar 'haunting' story from the seller.
As a small collector of oldish titles, my suggestion is that I would not buy from the seller at all.
Regards,
Cerulean
P.S. My similar experience is buying the same deck, similar price from an excellent seller and with original box and booklet, without a ghost story.

The last one I saw was a 1JJ Swiss deck that 'moved around on it's own'.
Wether or not it shuffled and dealt itself was not made clear.
I was also told about a deck who's terrible evil influence made the kids misbehave.
First of all, why would that be a selling point, and second, kids don't usually need help with being naughty, they do it of their own accord.
I would never buy from these 'haunted' sellers on principal.
it gives them the impression that these BS stories encourage buyers to buy.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this. If the story is not true, what difference does it make? If the story is true, why would anyone buy it?

Probably for the same reason thousands of people bought pet rocks in the 70s... clever marketing.
I once bought an old doll with a supposed curse on eBay. I bought it because I was collecting battered old dolls at the time, not because of the curse (which was phrased in a joking way, and certainly wasn't meant to be believed). But it was the story that caught my attention. :)

There are people who can handle these things and those are the ones who seek to try and understand what spirits and energies many people can not. Though I do believe that if they wanted to rid themselves of the deck that badly they wouldn't be selling it on e-bay, more likely they'd look for friends with connections or a mystic or an organization that deals with these phenomena. This could be either somebody too desperate to wait and do the research to find it a proper home, or maybe just trying to bring in a profit for something they bought from the auction. I've been proven wrong too many times that these are merely hoaxes. Anybody would be a fool to judge one way or another until they themselves have inspected the deck in question, not basing it on any others they've seen, heard about or inspired stories on.

Oh an aquarian deck! I've wanted one of those! LOL
I was actually interested becasue i test that, but i wasnt interested when i read the "bumps in the night, cold, erie, not alone feelings in the rooms the deck was in. Movement of shadows and an older man vision moving about our house." --i dont do spiritsand occurances!!!!
I think it has a possibility of being genuine-he had interesting anecdote, but i wasnt so sure about him having all of those people at hand who could give advice-sounds rare and cheesy-"psychic family:i think this deck is haunted, what do you feel from the cards?"

It probably is a scam...but... decks that have been used for things other than divination can pick up on energies. I'm quite a sane person, quite skeptical and level headed but I have a old green Thoth, I posted about it a long time ago, that I bought used and that definately came along with extra baggage - not haunted but not quite right either.

Hi Rainwolf - I wouldn't beg another strange deck. Its a horrible feeling holding something in your hands that makes you want to wipe your hands rather than touch the deck. Or why you feel sick even looking at it, hairs raising on the back of your neck and you don't know why. The uncomfortable feeling as you wonder why you are reacting the way you are to something that should just be cardboard and ink.
It took me ages to be able to handle it and really thats what bought the deck round - handling and shuffling - but I also bought another Thoth deck just to make sure it wasn't the artwork I was reacting to. I did keep it, never thought of trading it on mainly because I've never felt feelings like them before.

I think im going to bid for it; i dont really go for the energy bit, but rather synchrocity. If anything feels strange, ill smoke the devil out of it with some incense or something. I have a lot of it. All the characters on the cards will be gagging by the time im done with it.

the Aquarian deck from Morgan Press should come with a box or booklet if it's a 'collection' piece--but if to you, it's already a bargain with a good story, you might look on abebooks.com for this companion title that Morgan & Morgan published--it's about $4.00 from abebooks.com
--my LWB with the Morgan and Morgan publishers name has this ad: Psychic Tarot: Companion to the Aquarian Tarot Deck by Craig Junjulas--that way you can have the Aquarian's set of meanings, perhaps as well.
And hope you get all 78 cards.
Best wishes,

I remember the painting there's an article on it here:
http://www.castleofspirits.com/hauntedpainting.html
I did a search on ebay and the amount of haunted stuff people are selling is a joke. Although some people are deliberately putting it on as a joke I highly doubt any of the items are haunted and the people are as scared as they say otherwise why sell it why not give it away.

Hmm. I wouldn't buy the cards (or anything else that is haunted) on eBay... But if I was in a second hand store or antique shop or something, I'd probably be suckered into buying them. :) I LOVE stories that go with objects, but for some reason, I am so skeptical at things that are online. Another auction gem:
TAROT Deck - Real Psychic's Occult Possessed Strange
You are bidding on a comlete Tarot deck from a real psychic. She happens to live in LA and reads for some notable "rich and famous" She also happens to be my Mom.
We were talking the other day and she was referring to the fact that her cards get this weird black ectoplasm on them. And that she has to replace her deck every so often but hates to because she loves using her broken in decks.
So I am offering for the very first time a deck of hers on ebay. This deck is powerful and if you are into the occult at all you will be able to feel the energy. It is very Neutral but very powerful. This is definately White magic material not to be abused by black magic.
When you get this deck you will see it has little black spots all over the cards, it's like someone splattered candle wax on them but the thing is she doesn't burn candles near the cards, she doesn't read on a waxed wooden table, she reads on a velvet table cloth.
So we don't know what it comes from, we can only guess that it is some sort of psychic ectoplasm. I guarantee that whoever buys this deck will be impressed. Whether you are a collector or a reader, you will definately "feel" the presence these cards hold.

MM ~ There are people who think that they are getting everything that there is with their little five senses. And they think that those who believe otherwise are gullible little suckers. So they make up stories like these ebay item descriptions and the money does pour in. A responsible sensitive or psychic person who wanted to properly dispose of an item with bad or strange vibes wouldn't put it on ebay. I do believe that things retain something of the places they have been. I believe in Otherworld beings. I just think these ebay sellers with the "haunted" items, and the people who buy from them, watch too many movies. BB, Stella

Its been started at £17.72 - not bad for an old worn-in tarot deck - might appeal to collectors who are after a deck that looks really old. It'll be interesting to see if anyone bids on it or if the sellers will let it go at that price - if anyone does bid on it.
Not sure about the black dots though, I'm thinking that its just a sign of old age and not anything mystical - those cards really do look like they've been used to within an inch of their lives. :)

"I have a deck for sale that I got from my older sister. It looks like it has spagetti sauce on it but my sister maintains this happens to all her decks after she uses them for about a year. She thinks its psychic energy that causes the marks. I think she eats out too much. These cards are very powerful but have never been used for black magic. The power gets to be so intense that my sister always yells out loud when she reads with them but then so does my dad when he plays bridge. My mom says she gets it from him.
Anyway, my sister said it was alright for me to find them a new home, providing that the buyer understands the unusual history of this deck . . ." Sound familar?

It's curious how popular being haunted has become. I wonder if the popularity of John Edward's show had anything to do with it ? I notice all kinds of tv shows are having their fakey little haunted episodes too.

Yes, that would be horrifying, Fyreflye. My guess is you happened upon another sad strange version of the Pictorial Key to the Tarot in a nightmare and you envisioned Arthur Waite intoning, "not an Egyptian tarot, not an Egyptian..." while Uncle Art recited his favorite passages...
hoping to escape, you tranced for astral projection...but the reincarnation of a go-girl group in pseudo-Egyptian garb came to you, singing, and you were forced to walk like a profile painting...until the likeness of a Rastafarian minister, such as Sinead O'Connor or someone from an info-mercial with a pseudo Jamaican-accent could tell your fortune.
My hope is you found dream solace in contemplation of a candy-colored Albano with original instructions... and you woke up, peaceful, discovering you had auctioned off your misfortunate haunted decks and books...and you discovered...
the Waite was over...
We return you now to $7 Aquarian ebay auctions.

I especially like how the seller goes on and on how they have so much respect for this *haunted* deck and how they just didn't feel right giving it to just anyone, how only someone with great agility and fortitude could handle a deck with such force, blah blah blah... And yet they are trying to sell it on ebay, EBAY!! for heavens sake. Where twelve year olds can buy alcohol! Yeah, that shows real genuine concern and respect for the deck and the buyer.
My guess is it is just a ploy to jack the price up. Kind of shameless really.

Yes, and I myself am selling a disturbing notebook that I got at the Salvation Army. It wasn't used at all, and it looked like one of those really expensive journals that you can get from Barnes and Noble's.
So, obviously, I bought it. What was weird was, when I opened it and wrote a journal entry, the next day the journal entry was gone. I figured one of my brothers or sisters had ripped it out (they knew that the journal was made to look all torn up, and I wouldn't be able to tell if they had ripped a page out or not) and proceeded to write another.
I skipped the date, and simply wrote, "Hello." I turned on my music (which I do everytime I write in my journal) and went back to write more. The "Hello" was gone. I was, needless to say, freaked... but intruiged. I wrote, "Who are you?"
... I was starlted when an answer actually came back...
"Tom Marvolo Riddle."
HAHAHAHA! Look, careful of pranksters! They're everywhere and lookin' for a buck! Tarot is one of the most contraversial subjects in the world, most people thinking that it's something like a Ouija board. And how many times have you seen "The Haunted Ouija Board" or ect? Besides, as someone else has already mentioned, they wouldn't be selling the deck if it was haunting them so horribly. They'd probably give it away. Especially if it had started harming their kids. How many parents do you know that would compromise their children's lives for a tarot deck with "unique abilities"???
I think it's safe to say that you should trust 'em. Or, you can if you want. Ain't my problem, but I ain't buyin'. :P

Oh, believe me, it's definitely NOT the first hounted looking deck i see. And if i went of buying every deck or mirror or whatever they call haunted, i'd be bankrupt by now. Hehehehe. It seems people think that something having a...i don't know, entitity in it, makes the object more sellable.
Yet, it's all so interesting. I remember once a woman telling me to not buy a mirror because it was 'haunted with the ghost of a which'. I wasn't going to buy it anyway because it was, like, twice the price of the others. You know, the ghost adds to the price... :p
