I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in, but I'm sure they'll move it if it's not.
I've been doing tarot for a while now, and what hooked me is how much sese the cards made when I read them. They just seemed to click perfectly. Maybe I'm having an off month or something, because none of my reads make sense anymore! What did I do wrong? Anybody know? It seemed to start the night I tried doing tarot, but I had my mind on a frightening real life subject (E.V.P.s were starting to scare the hell out of me at 3AM) and I wasn't concentrating. I thought it was just that night because I was tired, but now none of my reads make sense!

Maybe the cards want to tell you something differend then what you lay them for.
Tarot sometimes does this.
You could try and see them seperate from the spread you did and make a story out of it in the order you did the spread consurning how you are doing in the present time of your life.
Hope this helps.

This may well be the blind leading the blind here as I am fairly new to all things spiritual so forgive me if Im not very helpful but the events you describe sound to me as though they have a distinct bearing on your current 'block'.
Many people have many different and sometimes opposing views as to how the tarot works but some believe that it could be our spirit guides who inspire and help us to decipher the cards as they are drawn and possibly even determine the draw of the cards. If this is true then it is also very possible that a negative spirit could try to cloud your vision and send you mis-information.
I honestly can't say one way or another but its worth considering.
Perhaps there are people here more knowledgable than me who can tell you how best to deal with it but certainly meditating and asking your spiritual protector for help would be my first step possibly followed by a cleansing of your house of some sort (salt, smudging etc).
As I say, its not something I know enough about but apparently fear is not helpful in cases like this so try to protect yourself, stay strong and don't fear, they can't harm you.
Warm and peacefull thoughts go out to you.

How exactly to I go about cleansing my house? I'm quite new and I've never heard of it before... anybody know?
Thanks Milfoil and snowy, your comments help. Milfoil, I'm leaning toward something in your field. I should meditate anyway, I haven't done it in QUITE a while. Perhaps my spiritual windshield is just getting fogged up. :)
If anybody else has any other suggestions, I'm welcome to hear them! I need all the help I can get!

Aha! You need to read Umbrae's The Blank Spot on these boards - before you go off and smoke your house with sage or whatnot.
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10197
You might also want to read the whole series: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=10772&highlight=blank+spot
I have been reading for 8 years and still get these blank moments. If they are repetitive, I suggest you take a break from tarot for a while - just do something else. When you've had a decent break, you can try and set yourself some fun exercises like reading for characters in a book. Or having a conversation with your cards - not spreads, just to and fro conversations.
You can also try reading with playing cards.
But in the middle of a reading, if you are stuck, Umbrae's advice is the best.

Hi Fairawen.
Your profile says that you've only used cards you have made yourself so far. That's interesting.
I don't know if that would have anything to do with the problem, or not.
I'm wondering about the EVPs scaring you at 3 AM. Are you recording them in your own house in the early morning hours, or what? I wonder what your intent in doing that is, if so. If it's scaring you so much, maybe you should stop doing it.

Often when we are getting nothing out of the cards, it's because our question is not what we really want to know. I kept reading for a woman and the cards seemed completely off over and over. As it turned out, she kept asking about whether she should change jobs when what she really wanted to know was whether her husband was having an affair. If there is an issue that's more on your mind than the question you're asking, the readings will come out muddled and seem meaningless. Try asking yourself if there's some other question you're afraid to ask that's stuck in your mind just below the surface and interfering.

"Smudging" according to a member of the Wampanoag Tribe in MA, where I learned Tarot, consists of using a large feather to wave smoke from smoldering White Sage on seashell throughout a dwelling. This custom crosses cultural lines and varies to a degree in other tribes. What amazes me about the ritual is its wide-spread application in diverse cultures. I don't know if it actually removes negative energy but I enjoy the activity and it smells good. As far as your card reading, perhaps you are having a temporary loss of confidence instead of a loss of your reading ability. keep the faith.

I was gone all day and was unable to respond to some of you, sorry for that! I'll try and answer various questions you asked.
Thanks Helv, that seems to make alot of sense. I have been doing ALOT of tarot (mostly because my Dad threw my old cards away, and I just handmade a new deck in secret) over the week or so that it continued clicking, I did about 2 or 3 readings a day. I suppose I was anxious to have the cards back and ask every question that came into my mind. I'll use your tips, and thanks again!
The Dreamer: Yes, I only use cards I make myself. Mostly because I'm never alone (I live in a family of seven) and I have to keep it secret. Tarot started being an experiment, but then it became more of a long list od obsessions. To answer the EVP question, no, I haven't actually recorded any yet. My sister and I are thinking about starting to over the summer, and I had been listening to them all day, readying myself for what they sound like to get my ear tuned. At 3AM I jump if a mouse burps, so I was a tad freaked. I'm still wondering if it's an entirely good idea to start recording them or not. I'll figure it out.
Deana: True, I was focused more on voices from entities that we can't see, so when I tried to do general readings and try out new spreads it might not have worked well for that reason... but the rest of the readings make no sense. I made sure to look at every aspect of my life, thinking that it was trying to push itself through... but even the combinations didn't make any sense.
Wandking: *lol* Ok, that doesn't sound exactly what I need to do. At least I very much doubt it. My parents would kill me if I did that anyway... my Mom is alergic to everything... Thanks for telling though.
Thanks everybody, yet again. I'll try taking your advice, and I'm sure one of them will work. I'll do them seperatly though, so I can figure out which one is the one that works, for further reference. :)

I'm glad you are getting some ideas to break the block! Why did your father destroy your cards? What a terrible and disrepsectful thing to do! Sorry - don't want to bash your Dad, but that is no way to behave.
I was evacuated once and lost my cards - while I was on standby waiting to go back, I made my own. I can't draw for toffee, so they looked like the stick-men tarot, and I used regualr playing cards for the minors (except knights - I had to draw stick-knights) - but I grew quite fond of them.
Very sorry to ask but - what's an EVP?

And if you do have spirits…please don’t go blindly smudging…
You may first wanna find out WHY they are there.
Be a shame to use the old ‘spook-away’ only to find they were trying to save your life… I mean if you don't know - don't assume...
in addition...you may want to not do a spread when tired.

I think its helpful to smudge, especially if you would like a bit of protection around you, you can use Sweetgrass, Tobacco or Sage and ask the Spirits of the Four Directions (or whoever you wish) to protect you in your own space whilst you are sorting things out. You can do this away from where you usually read and bring your protection back into the house with you. You can protect yourself as long as you need. Just keep your energy around you and be aware of it protecting you. or
Take your cards away from the house and read for an hour or so somewhere you can find privacy. A beautiful park or somewhere you can relax maybe.
Im just wondering if the cards 'are' making sense and they are trying to show you something else which maybe of more significance at the moment that the question that you have focussed upon.
I would maybe look to the majors first and see what is the biggest topic they would like you to focus upon then read the courts and minors. Maybe not actually ask a question or ask them what are they trying to show you. Maybe they need to get this out of the way first before they will move on.
Maybe also a rest from that particular deck or a new and different deck might work if you can draw or purchase one.
Hope you work things out and get back on track soon, take care

OH! Thanks. I've heard some of those. Is it anomalous? Also normal speaking voices (the article mentions radio announcements - so I don't know if normal voices just speaking counts as EVP). I've heard them since I was a child.

That article from The Anomalist is the most balanced thing I'd seen online about it so far.
Anomalous is in the eye of the beholder, to some degree. ;)
That article used a broader definition than is usually used for EVP by including radio transmissions. When most people say EVP they are referring to sounds which have been picked up on recording devices.

i quess for my 2 cents dont freak out so much. it could be that you really just need to figure the majority of the problem out on your own. this has been happening to me alot lately, i wish for guidence and im probably getting it but it makes no sense half good cards half bad, cant put 2 and 2 together. but ive boiled it down to its my choice and i have to pick the right path so theyll help me as much as possible but they are not going to give me the answer. i find it for me happens most when im on some lesson to be learned type of thing. and believe you me they are confusing me big time right now. so my suggestion is keep at it and maybe look at your past reads dealing with this and see which cards keep reappearing and focus on them to help you get through. but dont freak out its all apart of your learning experience.

There is a difference between a reader being unable to make sense of a spread and the cards not making sense themselves. This reply is in regards to the spread making no sense or not speaking. ie, they are all abstract and there is no story to be found in the spread. When this happens it may be because we may relying on the cards too much to make our decisions for us (or the querant,) and the cards don't want us to have the answer we seek... from them.

I think you are just stressing. It is hard to be intuitive when you are nervous. First the reading you did when you were focused on something that was scaring you. Then after it didn't work that time, it likely made you nervous and affected the next readings.
I would first take a short break, then do some meditations and grounding exercises before the next reading. I think that could help.:-)

Sometimes I just take a photo of the spread, put it on my pc in a word document or similar, make a few notes about the situation, question etc and leave it. Oddly enough, quite often in a few weeks time, I can look back and see the meaning clearly which is a good learning excercise.
