hi

i hope this is the right section for this :)

my wife is leaving town to go visit our great-grand-daughter in hawaii near the end of the month and i thought it would be a good time to go visit my fave guitar stores and add some occult bookstores to my stops too -- i am mainly looking for tarot books and decks but am open to much more :)

any suggestions from those in the chicago area? :) many thanks

I'm only familiar with Chicago and not so much with the burbs or NW Indiana. Here's a the few I know of.

Transitions Bookplace 1000 W North Ave (Oldtown)

Healing Earth Resources 3111 N Ashland (Lakeview or thereabouts)
I've never been here, but my best friend loves this place.

She also mentioned a place she found way up on the Northside in Rogers Park, but I can't remember the name. I'll get back to you.

I don't know where you are in Indiana, but there used to be a store called Insights in my hometown of Valparaiso (it was in Chesterton before that). I thinks it's since closed, but if anyone knows if they just moved somewhere else please let me know.

All of the above sell new books. I wish I new of a used bookstore that had at least a large occult/newage/metaphysical section but alas. I'd probably spend too much money if I did know where it was.

Peace,
April

thanks april :) -- i've been googling for used, etc and i did come up with the Occult Bookstore, 1579 N Milwaukee Ave or 1561 N. Milwaukee -- lol -- found two addresses, same store name -- and here are two phone numbers too lol -- 773.292.0995 or 1.312.922.8311, open M-F, 10-6, Sa 10-4 -- might want to call before making that trek ;)

and also Bookends, new and used with tarot mentioned as a topic line, 4740 N Lincoln Ave :) -- 10am-9pm Monday thru Sunday

:) that's all so far

I can definately recommend the Occult Bookstore...especially if you are looking for reasonable used stuff...and the occassional rare things. The Location at 1561 Milwaukee is the one I know of...and the number that starts with the 773 area code. :)

There is also a bookstore called Aurum Solis on N. Sherridan...Iwill see if I can find any other info on it. I went there once. It was pretty cool.

If you want to make a trip to the western suburbs...there's the Quest book shop...306 W Geneva Rd. in Wheaton.
Not the best shop...it is pretty small. Does have a decent tarot collection though. The reason to go is because it is at the North American Headquarters for the Theosophical Society.
And they have a labyrinth that you can walk out back. :)
