Did I just quote Britney Spears??? *goes in a back room and slams head in door* Ah, that's better.
Anyway, idiotic me, I did it again. Everytime I get cleaned of emotions, I plunge back in head first and get wiped out again.
See, I've just done about ten readings in one day. Possibly more. And... you guessed it!... I've got alot of baggage that I can't seem to clear. It's not mental baggage, but... you guys know what I'm talking about. That weird feeling as if I've just entered ten seperate pools of thought, and I'm dripping with their essence. I don't blame the people who I read for, but myself. I shouldn't have jumped right in again. I figured I wouldn't get tired, and I'm not. But, I knew a spiritual shower. :P
Anybody got any suggestions? Other then burning some herb or anything else, because my Mom would literally kill me if I did that.
Never... again... not until I'm more experienced... how in the world do you stop yourself from carrying around this weird feeling? I've been trying to shake it off with music, but it doesn't help.
AUGH!

Do you shield before you go out to do readings?

The introduction of this article focuses on intentional, malicious attacks, but psychic shielding is necessary even for exposing yourself to free-floating negative energy, just looking for a psychic or intuitive like a parasite looks for a host. Check this out at Llewellyn's site.

Thanks Kim, this may help. Not entirely sure, but it may. I'll try it out as soon as possible.
Anybody else ever had this problem?

Hi there :)
I always surround myself each day (when I remember :) ) with a protective bubble. I pray and ask for God's help in surrounding myself with this and use imagery to imagine it surrounding me. It does work. I use it on my kids when I am going on car trips...If however you have this energy on you now I would go with Helvetica's suggestion of swimming. Or walking in nature. Or running as fast as you can and imagining the negative energy dripping off you as you go..Or even just having a bath and immersing yourself in warm soapy water with some nice candles and calm music
Hope this helps some ::

This thread is really interesting to me because on days when I do many readings, I just feel so disjointed when they're over, kind of as if I'm too "scatterbrained" to think clearly. Which I suppose makes sense, as I've "scattered" my brain into many other people's lives over the course of the day.
I thought this feeling was all in my head, sort of like I was immagining it. But now it turns out that someone else has that feeling as well!
Anyway, the best way I've come to clear the disjointed feeling is to sleep. Really. After I wake up, I have half-memories of dreams where I deal with whatever I've raised in the readings, and when I'm awake the next morning, I feel like me again.
Although, I've never tried to shield myself to begin with. I'm going to have to give it a try today, as today will be a day full of readings. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

Well, the sleeping worked! :P Went to sleep directly after I posted. I'm set up to do alot of readings today too though, so I'll certainly have a chance to try out all that you guys mentioned.
Yeah, I used to think that people who said that they felt this were just a banna short of a bunch. :) Turns out it's exremely easy to feel this. The sleep helped though!

I’ve never figured out the shielding thing. It’s a western man thing. Shamans accept what’s there, channel it in, use it abuse it toss what’s left over. “it says something about our culture that wizards stand inside magic circles to make sure the demons cannot touch them” writes Rachel Pollack in “Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom” on page 33.
Been reading 30+ years and never shielded.
However – some folks do, I got nothing against that.
You need to figure out what you do.
After mass readings – take a shower, and flood your system with water. Works best for me.
During readings – if possible, wash your hands a lot (between readings!), and drink lots of water (keeps you clear).
There’s also the ‘getting used’ to using those muscles kinda feeling. It’s your psychic muscle telling you it enjoyed the workout.
Real magic is less complicated than you may have been lead to believe.

Ah yes. I forgot about the water! I heard someone make reference to that once... was probably you Umbrae... but I had forgotten. We shall see. I'm not normally into the "spiritual" aspect of tarot, but I figured someone would know a good conventional way to wipe this clouded feeling from me.
Your right, could also be my "psychic muscle" as you so quaintly put it, getting a workout. I felt fine when I woke up, so it can obviously be gotten rid of semi-easily.
Thanks Umbrae! Will certainly keep the water in mind.

slowly, quietly drinking some water. Get yourself situated into something else, if you can...I think it's a combination of being dehydrated and perhaps focusing your eyes too long on something.
Sometimes intensive study, work, screen-time produces the head-achy dizziness.....
Best regards and take a break!

MM ~ No one has mentioned salt, swim in salt water, use a bit of sea salt in your bath water or use salt for a scrub in the shower. Nothing icky can make itself at home in your aura when you salt it. Other than that, SHIELDS UP next time! Maybe even a brief cleansing ritual BETWEEN clients. BB, Stella

Umbrae - I like what you quote of Rachel Pollack. Why do we need shields? I never heard of shields in Africa, where powerful magic abounds.
What I do, which is not a shield, is to imagine a room in my mind called "private" - actually, more of a garden or an orchard than a room - where I can go to ressource myself at any time.
I worked around some seriously damaged people; and had to deal with some seriously evil people (seriously). I never "shielded" but I did have my garden. I spoke to a witch-doctor once, in Zambia. There is no private space in Africa, just as there is no psychic shield (though they do have blocking spells). People don't have their own rooms. But they still need to be alone with themselves sometimes. When they do, they go in nature. The witch doctor told me that when he is very busy, he can't get away in the bush for a while, so he imagines a stretch of bush in his mind, and river. I told him about my private place. It sounded similar - though obviously mine was a European space! After speaking to him I added an imaginary stream.
You might not think about it all the time - or even have that much time to visit it. Just knowing it is there is a help. And building up your physical and psychic strength.
Salt is good ingested - keeps the water in. Also a few dried fruit.

HA! I have UM. Wow, I haven't been to Um in a REAL long time. Thanks for reminding me! That's a place that could rejuvinate me.
Um = Unconcious Mind. You know, the subconcious. Quite strange. I read it in a writting book. Way to get inspiration. In your minds eye, you go down into your basement, and there's a door you've never seen before. Go through it. What'll you see there... is entirely up to you.
I put a sign on it years ago. "To: UM" *lol* Like OZ! :P
Thanks for reminding me!

Heh - I like the UM concept. I've been trying to explore mine more with tarot, and I guess having the "scatterbrained" feeling I mentioned means I've succeeded.
Thanks for mentioning the UM, Fairawen. I think I'm going to put up a similar sign about it. :)

So far I don't shield...I did experience being "drained" when I first did a bunch of readings in a row..
Of all the advice...the one that works best for me, is drinking lots of H2O...
I spent most of Thursday, and all of Friday, at my computer and on the phone reinstalling my hard drive...12 hours straight yesterday...felt that "drain" and "anxiety," but when I started drinking a large glass of water every hour, I felt much better....Champagne of the gods...water.

I would suggest a couple things.
First, while you do your readings be sure you keep at least one foot on the floor. Imagine you are plugged in the universal energy of the world and it pours into you through your head (crown chakra) and empties out your feet back into the earth. As you finish a reading, concentrate for a sec on this energy flowing through you and visualize all energy you picked up from the person getting flushed out of you. I like to imagine it like water, or like literally plugging in my crown chakra and my feet (which is the grounding part of things people always refer to.)
Second, when you are finished and at home, you can lay in bed and visualize that you are submerging yourself in this clean pure energy. And then sleep. Some people find that certain scents help cleanse them. For me, I enjoy eucalyptus or peppermint for purposes like that. Heck, even eating a peppermint candy between readings might do the trick.
A bath or shower can also help both physically and psychic-ly, like the others mentioned.
Great topic of discussion!
