I was reading "The Art and Meaning of Magic" by Regardie the other day, and quite suddenly came upon the words that explain what I have viewed as the purpose for reading the Tarot in my own case. I shall quote the relivant material:
'The object of divination is quite simply, then, the construction of a psychic mechanism whereby this source of inspiration and the life may be made accessible to the ordinary consciousness, to the ego. That this mechanism is concerned at the outset with providing answers to apparently trivial questions is by itself no objection to the technique itself. ... Nor is the objection valid that the technique open to frequent abuse by unscrupulous charlatans. But practiced sincerely and intelligently and assiduously by the real student, consciousness gradually opens itself to a deeper level of awareness. "The brain becomes porous to the recollections and dictates of the soul," to use a current theosophical expression, is a true statement of the actual results of the training.'
This 'coincidence' is not alone. For the most part all my ideas and theories are later located in books and essays at a later date. Very handy to have an error checking system built into life to make sure I'm on the right track. Its both frustrating and reassuring to know that I am following the footsteps of those before me. One day I'd like to come up with something completely origional. Could be a while waiting for that one eh? *snickers*

That sounds SO much like a college textbook, but yes, it does sound like good material. Just a rather high class way of wording it! LOL
You're on the right track Stoneman.

StoneMan: That truly resonates: that divination is ultimately a means of developing a refined awareness & thus a closer relationship with a higher consciousness; & regardless of the apparently (initial) mundane intent or purpose.
It also seems reflective of "When a student is ready, a teacher shall be found." There are varied ways to finding a "teacher". Tarot provides a means to connect with self & inner awareness; by which process serves as a teacher.
Personally, Tarot was & still is approached from the spiritual standpoint. Its use as a divinatory tool was moreorless an "accident"; synchronicity in action.
Thanks for sharing that exerpt & observation--& another book to add to the Wish List!
