Hi everyone!
As some of you know I started working on the phone lines. Basically what happens is you get an operator number and a PIN number and you log in from your home phone. You can log in anytime you like and also there is a couple of times in the week where you have to be on, just so the company knows what hours are covered.
Then you wait for the phone to ring...
When it does you get a recorded message telling you it's a call from the line and to get ready for your call. Then there is 3 beeps and you answer the call. Every 5 mins. you hear a beep to let you know that, that time has passed.
What I do is keep a log book: I write the dates and times I log on and off. If a call comes through then I write the time and the persons' name etc. and mark everytime I hear the 5 min beep.
I was actually quite nervous about my first call, but it was very much like a live reading I would get. I think you attract certain people or situations, I know I do. And my first call certainly was no different. Obviously I won't talk about my client on-line, but it was an issue I seem to have a lot in person with clients, if that makes sense?
You get paid once a month into your bank account, and that's all I can tell you for now.
I hope this has been of some help :)

That's really cool. How do you get into doing phone readings? Also how many hours a day are you required to do?

IS there much in the way of phone expenses on your end of the deal TemperanceAngel? (like phone rental, call rates, what about non- local calls etc..) :)

To answer Emeraldgirl and similia: I work for a 1900 number, so amount of calls depends on how many people logged on and how many people phoning in. I havn't received my contract yet, so not sure how many hours I am required to do. No line rental etc., I think the calls cost $4.95 a minute (?), exspensive eh!!? And I get about $0.80 per min.

Do you only get paid for the minutes you log up or are you paid a flat rate covering your time?

No, you don't get paid for the minutes you are logged on (I wish!!), only when a call comes through.
Oh, I got the job by answering an ad that was in a free alternative magazine under the EMPLOYMENT section. I had to do a reading for someone via the phone and then was called back and said that it all went great and that my operator number etc. would be sorted out over the next couple of days and then I could start :)
cybercat thanks for the great link!

Hi TA,
Is the 1900 number an automated service? How do they assign the calls? Are you on a rotary system? In other words, does the 1900 number just put through a call to any reader that is available? Could you get repeat clients via this method? Can the caller ask to speak to a specific reader?

I am not sure if the number is an automated service? I presume you go in a queue with the other people logged on. I log on to, two lines, one is a Melbourne service (where I am) and the second is a Sydney service, it's the over spill line, in case they get really busy up there!
Yes repeat clients are possible, you can give out your operator number so they go directly to you.
I think a caller would have to speak to the company to get a specific reader to find out what time they are on and what their operator number is.
Thanks DarkElecteric, nice to see you around on the boards :)
Thank you also to stars and satinangel :D

Hi TA,
thanks for explaining that. I always wondered how those 1900 numbers worked, both from the reader and querent viewpoint. And, now I know :)
I wish you all the best and hope it really works out for you.

Thanks for talking about trying this out!
I've been interested in trying it. Haven't had the nerve to so far.
You might enjoy a book by Frederick Woodruff called "Secrets of a Telephone Psychic" He's a genuine reader and astrologer with a great sense of humor, who has worked for several different 900 lines. His book was fun and informative and encouraging.
Goodluck!
