carrying around leftover energies

Hi,

I just started reading for the general public about 6 months ago and I'm really enjoying it, and learning SO much. But after my sessions which are usually around 4 hours I feel drained in an odd way. Like I'm hanging onto some of the heavier energies that surface during my readings. It doesn't feel like my own personal energy I'm hanging onto but residual energy thats just, I don't know, left over or something, and it feels like I'm carrying it around with me and it's draining me in a psychic drain type of way.

When I'm able to get to the gym afterwards I always end up feeling refreshed. All of the energies are gone. But sometimes, like tonight, I just don't have the energy to go to the gym and part of this is because I feel so drained. Does anyone else experience this? Is there anything you do afterwards, or maybe before, to replentish yourself and let go of this energy?

Thanks, EAB

When I get like this I find that having a shower and "washing" away the negative energies helps. Also burning some nice incense. And if you're not up for the gym maybe just a nice walk somewhere with pretty scenery.

Thanks Emeraldgirl,

I'm lighting some incense:). I guess besides what people do in this situation I'd like to know, what is this?

It's exactly what you said - leftover energies from the people you read for. IMO, when you read for somebody else, a person tends to pick up on their energies, which way they're flowing, etc. It can be very easy to pick up some of the residual to carry around with you.

Any of these work:
Physical grounding with a walk, or other physcial movement like yoga
getting your hands into the earth--literally--with gardening, or just rest your hands on the ground and visualize the negative energies draining off,
a literal shower.
Visualizing a shower of white light coming down around you and negative energy flowing off your body and into the ground.

It's really essential for you to get rid of those energies in order to be able to handle reading for multiple people.

Ditto what Imagemaker states.

Simply washing the hands &/or face in between readings usually sufficient to take care of it. Also helps to periodically "ground & center" during a reading session to maintain the equilibrium & detachment. Akin to taking a metaphoric breath of fresh air to replenish that which depletes.

Physically moving away from reading site such as taking a walk can help. If circumstances permit, I go outdoors & scuff feet through grass.

Very important to stay hydrated as dehydration can occur & contribute. I drink lots of water during a session.

Not protecting yourself properly before a reading, or even cleansing afterwards - In my opinion - Is just as bad as ouija without a proper guide... You're messing with energies, other peoples and your own - And taking a lot of stuff on board - It is SO important - Not doing so can have energies lingering on/in you for weeks - And it doesn't disappear or dissapate, it HANGS on you like an anchor - And you'd eventually start feeling it negatively.

So yeah - My opinion - Protect before hand, cleanse afterwards...

Its kinda like playing sport without showering afterwards - You stink, and it can only get worse...

That's interesting. An Aboriginal medicine man that I see occasionally always makes us drink water to ground us if the energy work is too intense, or if we're drifting. He also sprinkles it on our faces and arms and hands.

Also, what about having something nearby that collects and purifies energy- a bowl of salt water, burning sage, ect. I find that a spritzer of purifying essential oils are an easy (and pleasant) way to quickly revive a space, or a body spray for yourself.
There are many tools for this type of thing, but I think visualization would be just as effective, if not more, and simpler.

I avoid & limit the use of aromatics due to the sensitivities of some folks (including family members as I work from my home) except for the strictly ritualistic purposes.

As I see Water of the Spirit, it makes sense to replenish that element in the most expedient way possible, particularly as the endeavours stem of the physical energy as well as of the spiritual. It also aids grounding. Routinely bless water before drinking it & infuse it with Light. (Ditto for anything else I drink or eat.)

A psychic faire I participated in was held in a large room in the rear of a head shop. There was a back door at the rear of the room which opened into an alley. A participant burned large clumps of what appeared to be sage brush "to purify" the area around her table. The odour so strong, the rest of us choked on it & she was asked to cease. It also discouraged potential clients of the shop patrons, walk-ins & the curious who saw a large sandwich board sign placed before the shop's entrance. Both the front door & the back door had to be left open for cross ventilation to air out the room.

By the time you notice something it might be mostly over,
and so your awareness becomes a secondary experience.

Thank you everyone for all your ideas. Taking a break a few more times and grounding/centering during this time sounds like a really good idea. Right now I take breaks but they are pretty short restroom breaks with querents waiting for me to get back to the table. Meewah I especially like the idea of drinking water throughout the session. I can have sparkling water at work and next week that's what I'm drinking. Also Imagemaker I love the idea of making physical contact with the ground and allowing the energies to drain down into it. I'm definetly going to use this on breaks next week. Sounds like I just haven't been giving myself quite as much of a break as I need and not really using it to do what I need to do.

Oh Rogan, you made me feel stinky! Like I'd been to the gym several times without showering. What do you do before reading to protect yourself. I usually ground myself with breath and ask for help in being a clear and unbiased channnel to allow messages to come through.

This is why I love these forums- better to learn from others than making a mistake that could make others uncomfortable. I'll keep that in mind.. (It'll be a while before I feel comfortable reading for others!)

Blessings, Maria
