Hi,
On Sunday 29th May, my fiance and I are going to New York City for 4 nights.
Just wondered if anyone (from there) knew of any good tarot / occult shops that I should visit while we're there?
Also, is there a particular area where the tarot shops / readers are located?
Many thanks,
Regards,
Ian

I don't live in NY and have never been there but congratulations on the trip. Is it your honeymoon? justawonderin. I'm sure there are some shops in NY. I'll do a search for you and put it up here in a few minutes.

Many thanks for the info Mike!
It's not our honeymoon, just a short break- I have been once before about 10 years ago, and always wanted to go back. I cant wait!!! Just over a week to go!

I'm so jealous! (And homesick. I'm long overdue for a trip back to that area.)
While your there, be sure to have "cawfee" and "tawk" - yeah, I still sound like that.
It's been a few years since I've been back for a visit, and don't know what shops may have shut down, I can recommend Enchantments in the East Village (at least by what they were back then, I don't know if they have changed hands or anything.)
Anyway, have a look here: http://www.wcities.com/en/record/,43543/33/record.html
Unfortunately, Herman Slater's shop, Magical Childe, closed quite a while ago. Though considered too dark by some, I always found it worth a visit.
I will ask my friends in NY/NJ if they know of anything new. With any luck I'll have something for you before you leave.
Since you'll only be there four days, I won't recommend places outside the city, but if you ever plan an extended visit, it would be worthwhile to look into a day (or two) trip to New Hope Pennsylvania. Although very much a 'tourist trap', this little town is full of magic and wonderful things. Friends of mine have an occult shop there - Mystickal Tymes and a sister shop just down the street, Beyond the Veil. Both are very worthwhile visits. (Just so's you can see a little about them, http://www.mystickaltymes.com is the main site, but if you go to http://www.mystickaltymes.com/store%20info/about.htm you can read about the owners, the shops and even about New Hope.)

IDN  you may come back with more than 5 decks...
I am so jealous. I want to visit New York, but in the winter, so I can fulfill a few movie fantasies and go skating in Central Park... *wistfully dreaming*

Thanks for all the info guys!
I think there will be many things trying to make me part with my money! I love gadgets!
Of course, a couple of my decks will be going with me on the trip- probably the small Thoth and the RWS.
Regards,
Ian
