Dear Reader ......
This is what I value in you ~
It’s first of all the time you choose to spend with me, even though you may be a whole world away. At the moment of the reading you are with me, attentive to my question, waiting …… I feel this energetic connection strongly.
It is your purity of intention. I know you are reading for me because you are committed to the Tarot. You are motivated or compelled to read by interest or love and I know you value and honour me. I feel and trust that purity if intention. It is simple and profound.
It is your commitment. I know you meditate before you read or ground yourself in some other way so that your mind is free to absorb the ideas and possibilities that are suggested during the reading. It doesn’t matter who I am: this is a spiritual practice for you.
It is your life experience and values which inevitably mold the reading. This is who you are. I know you cannot be a tabula rasa . Your life experience is part of your identity, the filter through which the knowledge flows. I honour that. There is something magical in you that is open to magic and which catches the magic evoked by the cards.
It is the knowledge that you have gained from your work with the cards, sometimes study and experience going back a life time, but often just a few months. Your knowledge of the symbols, the numbers and the colours form a platform for the knowing and the magic.
It is your capacity to weave a story from the images and their voices that makes sense to me... I may have heard this story or parts of it before or it may be yet untold but the way you tell it is your own way.
It is your honesty. You will tell me what you see and what you make of it but you will leave it to me to decide what to do. You won't pretend to be other than whom you are.
It is your capacity for mutuality and respect. If we were sitting across a table we would be having a conversation. Even over the Internet sometimes it’s possible to have a conversation. I know you are willing and open to that. You know I am not new to Tarot and you'll read from a position of mutuality and openness.

Moongold,
Your post reads like poetry, and is a potent reminder of my favorite bits of some of my favorite recent threads. It brings to mind, especially at this moment, Umbrae's recent post on service.
That purity of intention is, I believe, what keeps me coming back to reading for others. It's the opportunity to reside on some other plane of existence for the period of the reading, the chance to help someone. It's wonderful if they have an "aha" kind of experience, but even if they don't, I know there's something at work in the process, and perhaps the intention is there, in that feeling, working its magic.
Tarot is for me a perfect example of receiving through giving. The exchange of energies is profound. A reading is an opportunity, for everyone it involves. It's a kind of energetic embrace.

((((((Moongold)))))) Never have I seen the energetic pattern of reading captured in its essence. Nor such appreciative insight so eloquently & profoundly expressed!
Kudos.

Thank- you Nevada and MeeWah ~
Yesterday was a difficult day and I woke up this morning wanting to speak from the heart, about the practice of reading, not the politics.
It is only that which really means a anything at all.
Reading gives me so much and it is such a simple but layered process. I don't wish to sound self centred but sometimes I feel almost compelled to do it. Any discussion of Tarot is compelling.
I love what you say, Nevada.
Many blessings

Thankyou Moongold, for a beautiful thread.
Nevada: I understand what you're saying above. For me, Tarot is one of the few ways I can help people - I'm not a healer, I'm not a therapist, I'm no longer qualified to patch people up physically... But I CAN read Tarot, and it is my way of helping people and healing people and inspiring people.
Moongold, I think you have given an outline of what a great, wise, and caring Tarot reader is. :D
Blessings,
Kiama

This is a beautiful post!!! Thank you so much for sharing from your heart and helping to put into perspective the beauty and good of Tarot and of this forum! Your healing words could not have come at a better time given the general feelings of doubt and worry recently posted on the boards and felt by many people here. Your words are a gentle, loving reminder of what draws us again and again to this forum and to each other, and why we all love Tarot and other Tarot readers so much!

Thank you Moongold for writing this...
I think sometimes we get so tangled up in knots about reading for others that it becomes a frightening rather than enlightening experience.
I think I'm almost ready to get back on the horse after a couple of tosses and hard landings.
You helped me remember what it is all about in a way that touched me deeply.
Again, thank you dear Moongold.
