I bought this at walmart for around 9.00 not counting the several bags of chocolate, few toys and aspirin

Wow, that's really nice. I'll have to check walmart out. That looks really good. I'm thinking of getting a painted box for my mentor at the end of the summer for her teaching me about the akashic records and how to access them, driving, golf.... a bunch a stuff. I'm gonna get it from dolphingirl. she made her own deck and makes custom boxes. So yeah,
thanks for the tip.

it's very sturdy and it shows that you can get witchy or even just tarot things from walmart too...it's just a matter of being creative and realizing not everything has to come from a pagan store...

I saw those here too, they're very pretty and had two sizes (but the small one was too small inside for a standard deck). If you can't find what you want at WalMart, try JoAnn Fabrics, they carry them too & had the small sizes marked down to $5 last month.
I really like how the metal and wood look together, there's something like 10 different designs. Watch for splinters on the inside though!

lol..thanks for the warning..the one I have posted is the large size and my son loaded it up with 6 paperback books after removing my tarot decks..lol..
the inside has a velvet backing but I'm thinking of sanding the edge of the inside lid...it's a bit rough..but it has that "ancient feel" to it...

They only had like two boxes left when I was there...small and rectangle and this large one..I like the large one..it has a nice curvy look to it and very asian looking...

It looks great! Which area or section did you find the box at? Was in furniture or back in the craft section? Just curious. Because nextime I go into Wal-mart I want to get a general vicinity of where it may be at. That and Wal-mart's have a nasty habit of changing stuff around everytime I go...lol

LOL..you need a GPS finder to get stuff there...They're in the arts/crafts area when I got mine near the floral arrangements...the one I went to only had two left so hopefully you can find them...The boxes are actually quite large and I don't think the picture does it justice..if you get the small box..I am guessing you can put maybe 3 decks..mine is larger and it held quite a bit of paperback books (thank my dear toddler for that experiment)....
It's under 10.00 so it's worth getting and it was sturdy....I was thinking of supergluing a silk cord in the center of the lid with a crystal that would hang when I close the box but I'm also a mom and I realize that is when you invite temptation so when my child turns 50, I may do that...lol..
I liek the box that I saw on Charmed ones..(I'm a huge Charmed fan) that was on the episode where the gypsies eyes were being sucked out (you have to see the show to understand that one)
I think with the box that I got...I may end up evolving my altar into a sea theme since it looks like a treasure chest...

Yes, I saw them in the crafts section too--look for the fabric & beads, they had them on an end table by the bead section at our store here. But you're right, they do move the merchandise around like crazy.

The large size seemed more suitable. I have seen similar ones in a wider range of sizes at Hobby Lobby. I do like the style of your chosen box.--Tao

Check places like Pier One, Bombay Company, or places that sell artsy home decorating items - they usually have some decorative boxes.
For wooden boxes you can finish yourself, don't forget to try a large crafts store like a Michael's or A.C. Moore.

I'll have to go and have a look in Asda (I think Walmart owns them?).
