I've never tried doing the same reading (well , asking the same question )
with two separate decks . However , yesterday I was curious and gave it a go . I didn't feel so good about doing it( like asking for a second opinion when the first 'doctor' has answered your question ! ) and this may be significant , perhaps I projected something into second deck.
Anyway , as you have no doubt anticipated , the cards that came up were very different ( I chose 3 at random to separate questions , same order each time ) I really couldn't see any cross over at all . I wouldn't even say it was two different slants to the same question . I used my new lovers path , and the RWS . Whilst I got a more accessable/ immeadiate feedback from the first deck (LP) the second set of cards seemed like gobblydegook..I couldn't relate them to the questions asked , far less link them to the other deck.
So ... whats with this ? Either a) I sabotaged the reading myself b) I just don't have the skill to see what the second deck was telling me , in relation to the questions themselves c) they are different decks and .....and what ??

I usually don't do paralell readings, since it seems to me that that is just mixing two things that ought not to be mixed. I mean, it may be alright for RWS clones, but once I tried to do a reading woth the Morgan-Greer and the Thoth, and it came out all wrong.
Not a big fan of paralell readings...

It is true you may have sabotaged your reading by being SURE it wouldn't work, but what did you want it to do? Did you feel that if it "worked" you would get the same cards? did the message sound the same? Did you look at the LWB for each and check?
If it were me, I might try it again, but maybe have someone else do the throw and interp for you. See if it comes out closer.

I don't do parallel readings with cards exactly but I do use a related Oracle deck or runes to clarify if needed. I have heard of it working for some people but I would think that you would have to ensure that the decks complemented each other even just artwork wise so the reading would flow.

I would be willing to say that your feelings when you do a reading will colour the answer to some extent. You did not seem comfortable doing it.
The one time I tried it it worked well for me. I used the 3 decks I owned at the time (Haindl, Ancestral Path and Wheel of Change). I asked one question and pulled a card from each deck in answer to it. I asked what Tarot was meant to be in my life. I was fascinated by the similarities in the answers and by the differences which reflected the individual viewpoints, focus and personality of each deck.
For me I would definitely do it again.
I don't see it as asking a new doctor for a second opinion. More like when you are done with the doctor, seeing a homopathic specialist....different points of view, but that does not mean you doubt the first answer, just looking at the problem from different angles.
There can be many points of view that are all correct, just seeing things from a differnet angle. Try going back over your reading and not so much for similarities, but for the individual wisdom of each answer. It may be that witht the answer you asked, the universe is purposely sending you a variety of information to help you make the best decision. It doesn't necessarily make it wrong if the decks are giving you dissimilar answers, but that you are meant to see all the info you have been given, before you decide how to proceed. Maybe there is not supposed to be crossover in the questions you asked, maybe one picks up where the other left off and just adds in additional info.
Like if you ask a question of the meaning of life of a philosopher, a scientist and a priest, you may well get 3 very different answers with little crossover, but that does not make them inaccurate. Each can be quite accurate in its own way. Tarot decks can be like that, they see things (life) from different points of view.
And I think the exercise can be useful in getting to know how each deck thinks and in letting you see a problem from many angles. Like when you have a problem and ask 4-5 friends. You get a variety of answers to learn from and it lets you take the best of each. :-)
I don't think it's your skill level, I am sure you are fine. :-)
As for the asnwers that did not make sense to you, they may in time. I save my readings and look over them months later, and often things that made no sense look crystal clear in time. Makes you wonder how you did not get it.:-)
I had that recently. I got a message from a card that I was sure was just plain wrong. Even though I have never seen that to happen for me. Then about 3 days later I was sitting at my desk at work, and it was like I was hit by lightening. Suddenly I saw it all clearly and the card was 100% right. Sometimes we see things better in time, when we are ready to understand we do....

Hmmmm...maybe that's why I have attached personalities to my decks.
Anthropomorphisizing(heh...is that even a word?) my different decks allows me to do parallel readings with a clear intention.
It's like asking two friends for thier advice on the subject....both have different perspectives on the situation. And like actual friends,sometimes...a deck may want to change the subject and talk about something else....or be snotty.
If you know ahead of time the kind of readings you can expect from certain decks, then you can easily tell if both are paying attention to you and your problems...or if they just want to talk about themselves!

Great advice, I agree with every word (even the one I can't spell or prononce, LOL)
