OK, I know that this is R-E-A-L-L-Y a long-shot …
I was wondering if any Forumites would be interested in a ATF get-together this summer, on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, in the historic old quarter of Quebec City. (For those who don’t know, Quebec City is located about two and a half hours by highway, travelling eastwards away from Montreal.)
Why August 6 and 7, you ask?
Well, I don’t live in Quebec City. However, at that time in Quebec City, there is scheduled to be this year’s edition of the annual Nouvelle France Festival (Fête de la Nouvelle France). It’s a 17th/18th Century period-theme festival (costume optional).
Any interest?
A brief journalistic-style write-up about last year’s edition of the festival is at http://www.offbeattravel.com/nouvelle-france-quebec.html
The official website of the festival is at http://fetes.nouvellefrance.qc.ca/
The 2005 program isn’t up on the official festival website yet. But the festival is scheduled to run from August 3 to 7 this year. The archival website for the last year’s (2004) festival is at http://fetes.nouvellefrance.qc.ca/2004/site/1/cgi/nouvellefrance.php?drapeau_langue=English
It would be up to each individual to make their own travel and hotel arrangements. The official Quebec provincial government tourist website where accomodations can be searched and booked is at http://www.bonjourquebec.com/anglais/
As you can appreciate, it would be high-season in Quebec City in terms of hotel/motel pricing. (The good news is that costs tend to be lower in Canada than in the U.S.)
However, for the budget-minded, there might, for example, be relatively-inexpensive accommodation available that weekend at the Université Laval student residences (located a 20 or 30 minute bus-ride from the historic old city), if you don’t mind lack of air-conditioning on hot, humid summer nights. (Speaking from personal experience of a past summer, I regretted not bringing my own fan, and even so, I would be opting for an air-conditioned motel instead.) However, I haven’t checked for availability that particular weekend in the residences. If interested, check out the website for the residences which is at http://www.sres.ulaval.ca/. Click on "Summer Housing" for information in English.

Yesyesyes!!! And, um, did I mention, YES!!!
I've been wanting to go to Quebec City for the longest time as I'm an amateur genealogist and many of my ancestors came from that area! And I was just prescribed the correct happy pills that will allow me to fly on an airplane without flipping my lid, so of course I was looking for some trip to take to try them out! Hey, it's karma! ;)
You know, now that I know about the Festival I might go up there anyway, whether or not any other AT'ers decide to go. Sounds like just the thing for me. Throwing in some good old fashioned tarot talk would be the icing on the cake! I'll be curious to see if anyone else would be interested in meeting up.
Peace,
Melvis

It's sounds very interesting but it's too expensive for me and I prefer keeping the money for the new furnitures I plan to buy. I'm sure you'll both have tons of fun though. ;)

Argh! Interesting things almost always happen when I work (or being buzy elsewhere)!
But I am sure you will have fun!

Sounds like a lot of fun! I'd have to investigate a bit further, though, to determine whether or not I could afford it. Flying from Texas to Quebec City is bound to be expensive...

I have to say that QC was on the short list of North American cities I had always wanted to visit but for some reason never got there. Well, Laura and I went last year (along with some friends and family) and I wasn't disappointed! In fact, we went in August and found it to be a perfect time to go.
However, this August we will be waiting for a new arrival and will not be able to make it (really want to meet you someday Rusty). Maybe next year?

Yeah, I must agree! Quebec city is very nice to visit! I had been there for a weekend in high school. (and very good to study for an exam, hehe!)
The high point of my visit is to see at the tree with the canon ball! Of course, the picture with one canon was mantatory. By chance I was the only one sacrificed to do it (and I didn't have to go on it, it was a cloudy and chilly week end)

I would go. I have been to Quebec City before and my sister lives in Montreal ,who I was planning to visit sometime in August anyway.
I think its a good idea.
