Tarot Invocations

I realize this probably applies only to those readers who believe in a "higher power" linked to their work with tarot cards. I'm wondering what kind of invocations or prayers people use while preparing for a card reading, during shuffling and laying out the cards, and so on.

For myself, my increasing tendency is to call upon the "Holy Spirit", to lead me and guide me, to engage and inspire me, as I lay out the cards and prepare to read them. Lately, I've been asking such guidance in the choice of query, and even the actual wording of the query. I do this when reading by myself out loud, and see nothing wrong with doing it at least silently in other circumstances.

But am I alone in this, or do others here include prayers (of whatever sort and belief system) in their process of doing a tarot card reading?

No, you're not alone. Before each reading, I ask my inner guide and the Great Spirit or the Great Goddess, whatever I'm drawn to at the time, to bring light, clarity and wisdom to my reading. I've certainly noticed a difference in the quality of a reading the times I haven't done this. It seems to be lacking something. I would like to learn to work with Spirit Guides/ Angels in readings.

Have you noticed a difference with your readings when you do this?

Blessings, Maria

yes i do this too. but i ask for help for energy reiki and the premission of reiki source and i ask for help for my guardian angel.
i see some differences because when i do this i feel more confidence at my self. i dont question the answer, when i dont use this i question if is true.

I ask for help from Thoth.

I sometimes mutter the Crowley one.

'I invoke thee IAO...'

But sometimes I don't.

Does...please don't make this one a bad one count??

Lately I've started to just take deep breaths...and really try to clear my head of thoughts and emotions before doing a reading....it's tough to do that with a toddler...but I'm trying to learn to retrain my way of thinking...so I can learn to not only think positive but focus my energy into a goal.

As a part of my grounding before a reading I ask my spirit guide for wisdom and protection and I thank them after the reading.

Ya, I know what you mean! I've got three under 6 and they make a lot of noise! It's actually a great oppurtunity to practice patience and being grounded despite what's going on around you. I also think it's just fine for them to know that I need my space at certain times to do inner work, and not to disturb me. (Doesn't last long though, especially with my 2 year old!)

Cheers, Maria

How do you ground yourself with a 2 year old?? Normally I would do spelllwork after 9 but with a two year that's a miracle........earplugs are out of the question.......you have to know when they are decorating the walls.....what's a good way to ground and concentrate on tarot with kids?

Well there are certainly days when it's impossible (epecially rainy days), but if it's nice out and I have some free time, I'll get them started on a project/game and then sit on a blanket in the yard, and do a reading. The kids occupy eachother really well, and they love taking care of the 2 year old, so I'm pretty much set. It helps if I let them pick a card first so their curiousity is satisfied. I think it's actually easier with more than one!

I will always call in my guides for protection (and guidence, of course) I call down spirit to watch and mediate with me - I also call in the guides of the querrant to "push" the cards that need drawing...

Sounds odd. But hey, it's what I do...

Rogan.

I always ask my Guides to guard the circle I have mentally created for myself and the querant, and to only let love and light through.
