Demanding Decks

I'm trying to focus my attention on the Mythic deck as part of a study group, but my other decks seem to be screaming for attention. This morning I put a pink crystal on each deck and they seem to have calmed down. I'm new to the tarot and wonder if others get demands from their decks. If so, what do you do to ease the situation?

Thanks for your help and insights.

I guess you will just have to tenderly explain to them that they must be patient and wait their turn, that the new baby is taking up a lot of your time right now, but it doens't mean you love your other decks any less. When you can spend quality time with them, even it it's simply giving them a smile and a gentle pat.

Oh, I'm a bit of a walk-over. If a deck demands attention from me, I give it, except if it wines or nags (I hate wining and nagging) in which case it gets neither attention nor a pink stone and I send it back to its drawer without any reading.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my query. Your advice is sound.

I read on another thread that a lady was "hearing" from the cards. So I guess they can be unsettling.

Thanks again.

I'm sorry if I was rude, I was having an irreverant moment earlier. I hope I didn't jab you too hard with the pointed end of my funny bone.

People have various degress of sensitivity to vibrations, frequencies and perceptions... I am one who doesn't really or am so dense that it's unnoticable.

Ok this is what I think, that we are creatures of habit, and used to our old decks. Each new one has a different feel and look, the creator usually has meanings specific for the deck of what they feel these cards mean to them, so it is an adjustment to make, to understand and find meaning in them. It takes us out of our familiar zones, makes us have to stretch and being creatures of habit... we are longing for those safe familiar feelings we get from what we know. What we are picking up on when we feel our decks demanding attention, is our discomfort and wanting our security back, even if we love our new decks. There is a learning curve involved.

There really isn't any reason why you can't study your new deck and your other ones as well, do comparisons with the the same cards or even the same spreads using different decks. That would be very interesting to see the different insights that each deck offers and compliments or how it sends you in a new direction of thought.

Thanks once again WW for your second and very thoughtful reply. I thought your first reply was both comical and apt.

Today I took the stones off of the decks and they seem to have calmed down.

I did a quick three card spread with one of the decks....

Ace of wands
Three of swords
King of wands

I interpret this to mean we need to re-start our activities on a new basis (ace), that they are sorry they caused me pain (three) and explained they were only being as excited as I was about doing readings (king). All better now.

That I use all the time. There are other decks that special situatilons demand their use. I am sensitive to my Tarot cards. Regularly I have cards that demand their use. At these times I take their advice. This has resulted in my more accurate readings. I revere my cards and they seem to respond well to this. Good fortune!--Tao

I understand this. I think when we have worked with our decks we intuitively know which deck will tap into that part of our subconscious that is needed to uncover the information needed for that particular query at hand. When something is niggling at us that a particular deck more easily resonates with, I think we sometimes perceive it as the deck calling our attention to it, when really we just know which one will best "speak" the message we need to hear in the way we need to hear it.

Here's an example: One night I was having a lighthearted bit of fun with my friend and her son, and I was doing readings on their three cats. Simple three card readings and I used my Gilded deck. My Gilded "has a sense of humor" and easily switches from serious to playful if I need it to. My friend really connects with the Haindl deck and we've had some very meaningful readings for her with that deck. So she said to use that deck for one of these playful readings for her. I said, "Hmmm...that deck is more deep and I don't know if it ever wants to play." Sure enough, when I did the reading with it, it wasn't funny. It was more solemn and deep and kind of a party pooper, actually. I mean, the reading wasn't a downer or anything, but it just wasn't silly or fun. She said, "Yep, I see what you mean." So we went back to the Gilded, which lent itself just fine to our silliness. (Which really makes me want to get a true lighthearted deck such as the Ferret Tarot or some other whimsical deck, because gosh, we laughed so hard and had so much fun, I didn't realize how versatile tarot can be!)

What I think happens is certain images and decks bring forth different responses from us and each has its value and purpose and place. When I need a deeper, more spiritual, no sugar-coating reading I will use my Haindl. When I desire honesty with commisserating support, I will use my Housewives Tarot. When I need just the facts, ma'm, Universal Waite and Hudes if I need to know what's underlying those facts. While it may "feel" like a deck is demanding my attention, it's simply my own intuitive/subconscious connections with various imagery that seems to know which will better facilitate the reading.

I have had the cards entertain with their humor. I guess this happens with those of us --Tao
