Just wondering how other people that are in their "Hanged Man" year are doing so far.....what your impressions are.....what you may or may not be dealing with.....is it a breeze this year? Or do you find it's giving you a head-ache from hanging upside down?

A few years back I was in this year. I remember trying to figure out
what was happening...NOTHING!!!
I was in a void, not progressing or going backwards. It was a quiet year where I just lived one day at a time.
I look back at it now & wished I would have enjoyed it more.
No struggles, just in my mind. Nothing exciting or tragic.
Just lived the year out reading & waiting for something to happen! LOL

My Hanged Man year started mid April. So far, I have retired from my long term employment. If that isn't a Hanged Man step, I can't imagine what is. :(
Life does seem suspended.

Please forgive my constant questions, but what is a Hang Man year? And how do you know if you're in it?
Thanks, Maria

Well, I was in a Hanged Man year two years ago. I remember it clearly because it was a very difficult year for me. It was filled with obstacles and delays, it felt like being stuck in a swamp, it felt like I had the whole universe against me. Things got better when I got in my Death year. They were things I really wanted, like a new computer, the computer of my dream, and I kept holding on my project all year long and I managed to get the computer after all. But in order to get it, I had to make sacrifices.

Take your birthday date for this year, add the numbers up and reduce it if it is larger than 21 (the number of Majors). If they add up to 12, do not reduce it to 3. Surprise! You are in 'The Year of The Hanged Man." Example = your birthday is May 12. Add up 5+1+2+2+0+0+5 = 15 ~ The Year of the Devil.
Anywho - I was in the Year of the Hanged Man when my book was in it's 'selling' process. I was stuck there, waiting for something to happen, literally and figuratively. A year is a long time to hang by the shorthairs. And then - magickally - as soon as the year was over and I moved into the Year of the Emperor - I sold my book to a publisher!

well....there has been a whole lot of things happening over here during my Hanged Man year.....I'm most certainly not in the tree. and I'm mid-way into this....
Some things that have happened so far.....My son is near full intergration back home now...this progressive intergration started in January (when I entered the Hanged Man Year).....I moved, sold my van and have no car/van right now, I got off meds (been completely off for 5 months now), and I've shed light on some of the worst shadows that I've carried since childhood. Also...I'm ending a shadow in the next 5 days that has been attached to me for almost 2yrs. Now, if that's hanging in suspension and dangling from a tree for the last 1/2 yr or so...then what on earth can I look forward to in my "Death" year that's coming?
:D
Tarotbear.....how did you jump from Hanged Man to Emperor? I'm a tad confused on that...;)

Hanged Man is 12
Emperor is 4 so can it be that Tarotbear chose not to live the Death year 13 and instead add the digits to get 1+3 = 4 ???
hmmm... then Hanged Man year is indeed Empress year??!!
i too am confused.
and in a Death year btw, would like to switch it to an Emperor year if nobody minds...

Ok, my number is 22 ... but if you reduce after 21, it would be 4?
Why can't I be the fool? lol jk ;)
So the year goes from birthday to birthday?
So... right now am I still in the year from last birthday's date, or from my next birthday's date?

This is my The Hanged Man year.
There are a lot of things I can't do or what I planned differendly and had to change.
I had to stop working earlier, because of backproblems due to my pregnancy.
A lot of parties and vestivaties I had to spend at home.
Even a lot of machinery at home broke down and had to be replaced or fixt and because of the latest (computercrash) there where readings I had to re-do and therefor I'm running late on the other once.
So setbacks? Yes.
Delays? Yes.
And a lot of things went differently then planned or expected.
Seeing the world from a different viewpoint? Yes, a lot of things fell into place and I coud work out differences as well as making hard choices.
As a traditional meaning: my life being turned upside down.
This is also true for me this year.
So WhiteRaven and the rest of you,
You could realy say this year could give me a headache... LOL
I hope the year of Death will bring more luck on my way with all the changes it promices.
Love and light

The difference actually comes if you add the numbers linear-ly as in:
5+1+2+2+0+0+5 = 15 ~ devil
and in columns, such as:
....5
...12
2005
____
2022 = 2+0+2+2= 6 ~Lovers
Meewah happens to do it the first way and I happen to do it the other, but we do both agree on one thing: both cards are eventually correct, and the other card is the shadow card for your year. {If you read my book where there is a chapter on the subject, the 'counselor' referred to happens to be Meewah!}
As in your Life Cards, all the cards that relate to and reduce to the same number are all part of your card for that year. Sometimes there are two cards; sometimes three, depending on what the number is.

Both Ways bring me to the same thing........Hanged Man
However, if I were to do a friend......She would be Hanged Man one way...and World another way. It's weird.

Yes, there would be three cards in her year- 3 Empress, 12 Hanged Man, and 21 World, because they all reduce to 3.
Another example is that for this year I get both 6 Lovers and 15 Devil - how could these two cards 'go' together? Well, this year I will be moving in with my lover of four years and change my life completely, but I also have an offer from Bill Greer to design a deck for my unpublished book, which I have not pulled from my previous publisher. Both cards fit very well!
I suggest you do a Life Cards calculation for your friend - uses the date of her actual birth, and find out what her Life Cards are - they don't change!

Her life path is "3" - Empress Coincides with her Personality....which is Empress
Mine is 7......this coincides with my personality and soul...which is Chariot
Am I getting this.....LOL?

I started my Hanged Man year in March this year. And basically, these last months have been crazy for me. All kinds of stupid little things asking my attention: like machines breaking down, legal issues about a guarantee on a cars (my boyfriend is in his Justice year, this may be his influence), doctor appointments, more appointments etc. etc etc. Everytime I think it is gonna slow down, it just starts again and keeps on going. I wonder if that my whole Hanged Man Year is gonna be like that and what it means. Do I just need to surrender and go with the (very busy) flow?

I don't know if Tarotbear calculated it right, but it can happen, to jump from Hanged Man to Emperor. Every 10 years we make a jump and start a new cycle. My current cycle started with the Emperor and yes, my previous one actually ended with the Hanged Man (and I was pretty hung up that year alright!). This cycle I will for the first time also encounter a Death year. I wonder what that will bring, since it seems more natural to me then jump to a new cycle.

*Kiama shakes her head* Ooooh, don't talk to me about Hanged Man year! (Okay, do.)
Yep, I'm just coming out of my Hanged Man year, and boy and I exhausted.
Every single thing that could hold me up this year, suspend my activity, try to slow me down, stop me moving forwards, has reared its ugly head. This year has been the most difficult one I've had so far, and I have had to really struggle to get stuff done and completed (I am in my final year of University for a start - so NOT a good year for a Hanged Man year!)
But on the other hand, this year has also been the one where I've grown more spiritually that any other year. I've synthesized a lot this year that has been in the offing for many years previously, and I have learned so much. I've also become very introspective this year, trying to understand my self and get to know my self better. I have been faced with asking the big questions - why am I here? What do I want out of life? Am I on the right track? What do I fear?
That's another thing... Fear. For me, the Hanged Man is the Dark Night of the Soul, the facing of the darkness, and this year that is quite a big theme for me. I've made a habit of bringing on all the darkness I used to fear and facing it, learning to live with it and overcome it. I've also been faced with a gruesome, grotesque mirror-image of the not-so-nice side of me: I looked into the abyss and saw me staring back, and that wasn't nice. It was scary and disturbing and it really burst my ego bubble. But then again, it was useful, and I came out of that experience a much better person.
So, all in all, my Hanged Man year has been exhausting, an uphill struggle, full of darkness and difficulty, and huge spiritual growth...
And I wouldn't change any of it for the world. :D

Am I getting this.....LOL?
If Your Birth Number is 3 - your soul card is 3 - the Empress. Your personality card is 12 - the hanged man. Your shadow card is 21 - the World.
With the Empress as your soul card, you are the very essence of the Earth Mother - wishing the best and giving the best to everyone; you are very outgoing in your nature. Your personality of the Hanged Man is a further extension of the Empress; you will go to great lengths to find the 'little bit of good' in everyone, and even turn your life or beliefs upside down to accomodate others. The World as your shadow card, though, is a reminder that people will disappoint you from time to time. Accept their faults graciously but don't let them take advantage of you.
******
If Your Birth Number is 7 - your soul and personality cards are 7 - the Chariot; your shadow card is 16 - the Tower.
You are passionate responding to the rhythms of life, jumping in with both feet. You maintain balance between the intellectual, mystical, and philosophical, cramming more activity into a span of time than others around you - which can confuse and confound them. At time you contradict yourself, embracing both ends of the spectrum but not the center. Those that can keep up with you know that life with you will never be complacent or boring. The Tower as your shadow means that you can become moody or even pessimistic, tending to discard those who cannot maintain your speed or work on your level. It tells you to listen to and even occassionally to obey the wishes of others, for they bring lessons for you to learn. Learn to cooperate with others more othen instead of running off and doing things your way.

I guess the only thing we can do is sit tight and learn from it:(
And keep in mind not to spend a lot of money because of the unexpected events:(
I'm very new at the cardyears (just started learning about it last year)
but is the Death year going to be better?
Just wondering...

Thank you Tarotbear.....:)
Though, again, another method of looking at it....I believe it's M.Greer that sees the middle number as the "shadow".....thus, the Hanged Man would be the "teacher" for the "Empress"/"World" . However, for the Chariot...it remains the "Tower". There seems to be at least three different methods of calculation and reference from what I can see and understand. Why can't anything be just "simple"...LOL ;)
I must admit....in regards to my shadow/teacher......it's is quite accurate and something that I'm trying very hard to learn now.
Many thanks for your time!

Thanks to this thread, I have just found out that I'm in a Hanged Man year, with the Universe as my shadow card.
I've only been in my Hanged Man year for a little over a month, but already I'm seeing a trend. So far, this year seems to be about changing perspectives. For example, I'm dating a man for the first time in five years (I usually date women), I'm starting to explore my spirituality more by attending different religious services, and I'm starting to re-evaluate my career path and the choices I've made with an eye towards where I want to be in the future.
I began noticing this switch almost as soon as soon as my birthday passed (back in April). At first I thought it was just a passing trend, this feeling that I'm approaching the world differently from how I used to, and seeing it with new eyes. But after a month, it's still with me. I've actually started working more with the tarot of the Tarot of the New Vision (which I originally bought as a study deck) because I felt that I needed to work with a deck that mirrored how I was feeling.
The Hanged Man for me often means seeing things through different eyes, or from a different angle, so I guess that's how it's manifesting itself in my life this year.
Strangely, I also feel that I'm being suspended in place at the same time. I just found out that I probably won't be able to go home again (to the US) permanently until at least February, which is sad, because I do feel like I'm sort of caught.
Hmmm...Maybe the fact that I feel stagnant where I am is causing me to spend more time on introspective things, which is manifesting itself in my life by my changing attitudes and perspectives.
I feel like I'm not explaining this very well. And I'm still not sure how The Universe fits into all of this. Something to ponder, I guess.

There is a difference between your Life cards - which are permanent, and your Year cards that change with every passing birthday. They use similar formulae, but give you different results.
