As part of my journal, I've started to make notes on any random memories and feelings that are triggered by looking at and meditating on the cards. My deck is the Cosmic tarot. The 'High Priestess' card was the one I was thinking on last night, and the image reminded me of when I was seven, and the family were taking a boating holiday on the lakes of Norfolk to recuperate after my father passed away. I remembered how large the moon looked as it shone on the water, and how calming it was. The memory was so vivid, that I got a lump in my throat and shed a couple of tears- it surprised me how powerful the memory still was, after 34 years! Has anyone had an experience like this- vivid memories triggered by the cards?

One of the most imprtant things that you can do is connest with the cards so that they cause a reaction. When the cards trigger a memory from you, be it of a person or situation, it makes the readings that much better. Then, they really do become multi-dimensional and leave the realm of "book meanings".
For me, for instance, the Queen of Swords always brings to mind some one I went to school with; a cold, unfeeling, hard, brilliant person.

Hi Two of Cups,
For me the 8 of cups in the Mythic tarot trigered a strong memorie and feeling of being lost and having nowhere to go.
When first doing the colour exercise it stroke me like a knife.
I have to mention I haven't felt like this for years.
I wonder why the more 'happy cards' don't have such strong memories linked to them.

Sometimes when I am searching for past memories, the Tarot is very helpful. My favorite deck for this is the Tarot of Prague. There are people that have use the Tarot to probe past lives.--Tao

I certainly have special cards which have certain specific meanings. Im always particularly on guard when they appear in spreads I undertake for others as I feel confusion can take place for cards with personal messages that I know these have. Sometimes I draw on that...other times I listen...

Yes, and that is a two edged sword. Gathering personal associations for the cards really adds depth, but sometimes you may find that the readings become repetitive because every time you see the Three of Cups, you see the same associated memory. I mention that because I just did a couple of readings and that card came up in each. But because of the surrounding cards and the situation, the meaning was different. (I don't mean completely different, but the point of view changed a lot).
Having a real life experience associated with a card is wonderful and it means that you are experiencing the cards, but no one can possibly experience all shades of experience in a lifetime and many of your querents are experiencing matters that you may never see, and you still must try and help them in a way relevant to their situation.
