I just came from a post about if Tarot is a religion or not, and that got me thinking....If it were what kinds of holidays would we celebrate and how would you envision celebrating them?
I think I would definitely have a High Priestess Day in there, as it is my soul card. I would take a day off every year to meditate and come to know who I am on a deeper level and celebrate that person. :-)

I think I posted it :D
I was really perturbed from mainstream religions and I felt as though tarot was my only way since it had always been there once i found it. It seems like many people find tarot in a time of transition, as when i found it.
I like to think of it as a belief, religion if you may, that must be found and in turn it implores you to find more about yourself which other systems do not for the most part (except for eastern religions). I was sad to see how many people thought I was stupid to think of such an idea, that something I actually had faith in was not going to be a theology, but what proof does anyone else have?
I did not really care, I was going to believe what I wanted, even if millions of other people did not follow me right away for something that didnt criticise my life in every aspect.

Oooh, extra holidays? :D Let's see now...
"Day of the Fool" - the one day of the year where everyone gets to be silly, try something they've never done before, do something they would never dream of doing, without fear of being judged at all (April 1st, surely!)
The Tower Day - time to reinvent yourself! Everyone has to give away all their worldly possessions and start again. It seems harsh and everyone dreads this day coming round each year but once it happens, it feels so refreshing :)

I love that one, great idea! :-)

How about Crowley's birthday, October 12. We'll call it Thoth day.

In every religion there is a Day of Penitence, like Yom Kipur. How about Hermit's Day, a day when everyone takes their time to sit back, think about themselves inwardly, meditate and contemplate.

I’d move heaven and earth to keep Tarot unique as The World’s Only Holiday-Free Religion. I have too many friends and acquaintances in too many religions to be able to handle another set of holidays. The past year has been rough. The November-December-January round of Eid ul Fitr, American Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Yule, Christmas, New Year, Orthodox Christmas, & Chinese New Year happens often enough I can get through it with the proper cards and presents. But this year Ascension (Western), and Yom HaShoah fell on Cinco de Mayo. I spent the day praying I wouldn't meet any Mexican Mennonites from Jewish families, because I had no idea how to greet them.
On the other hand, maybe there should be a day of feasting and thanksgiving each day we get a new deck we love. And a day of fasting and sitting on the floor when the deck we ordered arrives and turns out to be a total dud.
(That said, I hope you had a happy St. John's Day, Bar.)

How about 'The Lover's Day'? It wouldn't be like Valentine's Day where everyone goes out and buys chocolate and flowers. It would have to be a little deeper than that. It should be a national holiday where everyone would actually have to spend the whole day with their spouse/significant other. Not just buy little trinkets and stuff

How about a day for each of the Aces -- we could place each one on a season's equinox. ;)

Well, religions serve to bring people together in communities, so we'd have to have tarot congregations, meetings, at least once a week. :) It would be fun!

Any 'personal day' taken off work would be Devils Card Day--for pampering, eating, wine & chocolate!

"Day of the Hanged Man", where everyone does and looks at things in a different way that they wouldnt normally. This can even be something as simple as taking a different way to work, or starting your shopping on a different side of the grocery store than usual. ;)

You know, that wouldn't be a bad idea....taking each day, when you draw a daily card, to incorporate those ideas of the card into your life for that one day. Say one day, you draw The Devil....instead of taking a 5 minute shower, take an hour long hot bubble bath with scented oils and candlelight! :D

O_O That has inspired me... I think we should start a thread, kinda like the Daily Card, but where you have to apply it to your life. No acceptions. It should be for a week at a time... it could be Tarot Week! :P
Honestly, this would be fun... we'd have a little signup, and then we'd go about and make a new thread every day. Each person has to draw a card at the begining of the day, and then find a way to go out and do it. Ask the deck what would benefit the day most, and pull a card. Then post on the thread what you did to honor the card!!!
What'dya think? Sound fun? It'd be a way to get closer with the cards and see them in a new, exciting light. And it doesn't have to be anything major either. The Devil could be something as big as a long, relaxing bath... or just buying that chocolate bar that's making your senses go wacky. :)
Sound fun to anyone else?
Oooh... I should comment about the thread, shouldn't I? :P Actually, I would hope that tarot weren't a religion, because it mixes with Christianity too well for me to take one out of the other. Besides, if I had to choose I'd choose God... but I don't want to forsake the tarot. :) Glad it ain't a religion.

A whole week though? I'd probably be anxious to get to the next card. haha ;D
I hope I don't pull 10 of swords, or 10 of wands! eeeks! ;)

Oooh, sunflowr, that's an interesting concept! What to do with a bad card??? Perhaps you use the energies positively... hm... I'm openin' up a thread somewhere... I'll put it in Talking Tarot and trust that the people put it where it's supposed to be. :P
Sorry about disturbing the thread content. :) You inspired me.

I think it would be fun too, but I wouldn't have much time during the week. I could just get to it on weekends.
