Negative Trend...

Hi every1. Sorry I haven't been around here in a while. Been trying to cut back on computer use lately.

I do a lot of practice readings... but lately, I've noticed that I've been getting a lot of negative practice readings. Now, I do try to keep a positive and objective attitude and I do pray to protect myself when I start practice. I also realize that it can't always be roses and occasionally you'll read something not so positive. But I feel it's happening too often.

Is it just me or is this happening to other ppl too? And, if this has ever happened to you, what do you do to get over it?

Hi Mystic_Blue_Jay!!

This never happen to me, but i think if you are negative you see a negative reading.

If you are sad at your life, things good could happen but you dont realize that, so whith tarot is the same. When i´m sad, stressed, or tired i try not to read.
You could do a ritual, your own ritual. I do this: I imagine a light that enter my body, i stay whith this color at the body and mind. It´s my form to protect my self. Before i do a reading i ask the guardian angel of the person premission to do so, if my heart fell positive i do the reading, if not i dont do.

Tarot is always right, the diference is the person that reads it.
So before you do a reading relax, fell positive (the light do this for me) and belive at yourself. I think that last part is very important, there are a lt of people that see a thing at the reading, but dont have faith at themselfs, so dont say what they see because they have afraid of fail.

A lot of light to you and yuor path.

Wow ... that is deep. But I do take breaks from the Tarot when I'm feeling out of sorts. This has been happening even when I'm really in the mood to practice (I really feel good when I'm in this mood)... so what gives?

So, maybe the querents have really a bad future or a bad period at them lifes.

I already done a lot of real negatives readings, so if the cards say negative things, is because the querent is in a negative path. You can advice them to change path or to hangle the situation.

Practice readings, may have limited uses over time.

Perhaps the cards are telling you, “Enough already!”

But to read face to face for strangers…that’s the ticket.

Take what you’ve learned, and give it away. Not to family or friends, but strangers…

If possible, find a place where you can go and have a cup of coffee. Every day, do three cards and take notes. Take your time, enjoy your coffee. Let the universe carry you along...have faith.

As this thread topic concerns the reading experiences & not an actual reading, it is being moved to Talking Tarot.

Umbrae, that is awesome advice, but what happens when (as some of us have seen) a manager or someone of the shop suddenly objects to having a person in their shop reading cards, even if it isn't reading cards for someone else?

Fudugazi  13 Jun 2005
Go to another coffee shop. Why should anyone in a coffee shop object to your reading cards, anyway?

Helvetica, living in the Deep South...trust me, you never know sometimes how people will react.

True, some folks are hesitant…they don’t want you ‘doing business’ in their ‘place of business’…

So you cheat.

Use a Marseilles deck.

“Sorry, no Tarot reading here.”

“Oh I completely understand, this is not tarot…it’s a French Tarok deck…I’m doing historical research…”

You don’t have to tell the complete truth…

Or, you can learn to read regular playing cards – looks like you’re playing solitaire…except for folks who know what ‘reading’ is.

I’ve always found that if I befriend the shop proprietors first – establish myself as a customer, a regular, before I pop the cards out…it works much better. Like reading, it’s about creating a relationship…

Thank you all for your advice. Being that I am shy, I may have trouble with these suggestions. But I'll try anything once to see how it is :) .

Again, thank you!

Hi.....

I agree ...you need to read for real people, real-time...

Before I started charging for readings, I simply told people,

"I read Tarot.."

And...requests came and I did do them for free...friends, family, colleagues at work, people they sent me...

Then I began saying...once I retire, I will be working in my home office doing readings...for now, perhaps a gift certificate for Starbucks would be fine.

That worked...

Now, I charge....and I know I am learning so much myself as I read live.

Remember the process is interactive.

The cup is never empty when we give with a good heart and do our best.

For me, reading Tarot, though is an extension of the work I did when I was younger reading with colors, handwritings and doing remote viewing....

Also, in my working life, I have worked with people in therapeutic settings, so interacting and dealing with people is something I love and something that I have experience and comfort in doing....yet, whenever I got a new client or new students, there is always that "first time" of meeting them and of building up rapport and of setting goals together....

I haven't done the coffee shop thing ....I don't want to read more than I am, but

I do know the manager of one of my Starbuck's haunts...I'm sure if I came in and sat down and told her that I read Tarot...maybe she would be ok with it...

but I do think you need to read, not practice, if that's what you want to do.

Reading for real people sitting in front of you is a whole different ball-game.

I remember years ago when I worked with a psychic (color-reading) and he allowed people to tape...(in fact, I taped my own first session)...I found out later that a number of the people I had referred to him, went back to the tape later, so that they could tell me all the things that "weren't true."

Now, as a matter of principle, and one I have discussed with my "mentor" here at AT,

I have my sitters take notes and we interact. if they choose to interact. Most do.

So...read for real people and deal with what comes up....and take it very seriously...it isn't practice when we are discussing people's lives.

And...start simply...

Even a one-card "advice" draw is good...

Or a two or three-card draw.

My own spread of five cards often carries us an hour...

Find out who you are as a reader and develop your style.

For your sitters...

You will find a whole slew of 1 to 3 card readings here for others at AT...

I did an offering of them some time back...

Tmgrl's Two-Card reading for....

The first link set up what I planned to do...the next two are examples...

You could do one-card advice readings for people...

Keep it simple and do a lot of them...

Try short periods of meditation where you go for no more than ten minutes. The better one gets at focusing one's attention, the shorter the period of meditation required for results. Specifically, try meditation upon one thing only, a visualization of a symbol perhaps and the thing is to focus only on that, nothing else. The idea is that one is attempting to improve their ability to focus attention (other things later). If focused, one becomes detached from emotional states, thus helping one when they work with Tarot. One can turn this on and off with enough practice ("zone out" -- hehe) and it can be useful in working with Tarot and helping one to relax.

If you search for "meditation" on the web you can find more information, however, you might consider the ancient Greek oracles and stories about them and ask what were they doing and why.
