hi all, i'm new!
anyway, i'll get to the point. i found a tarot book in a book store a while ago and there were explanations as to tarot combinations; such as two sevens apparently denotes true love. however, this seems to be the only combination i can actually remember from it. so, i was just wondering if anyone knew the rest or knows a site where i could find the rest, seeing as i cant seem to find the book that i saw it in. =\
any help would be sincerely appreciated =]

If you didn't live so far away I would send you my copy. It seems like an interesting book at first but, for me, it was a waste of time and money. I get more understanding of combinations from reading than I can from memorizing pairs and combinations that have to be presented out of context with a question and a reading. That's the key I feel. A spread has a question and a context of overall meaning. This influences any small combination of cards. The book can't address this so it has little value to me. Still, it must have been a big undertaking for the author. Dave.

Hi jaded_tortured! Welcome to the forum.
Not sure if it was the same book but I ran across one that spoke of card combinations and pairings. I may still own it and will look for it later. If I can get my hands on it I will post the name and info.
I don't reference it anymore though and I don't really hold to specific combinations and pairings being meaningful. If is usually noteworthy in a reading when ALL of one suit shows up or dominates...or if two or more of the same card number is present but I view those occurances in context of the reading itself. Probably I take the easy way out and let the cards stand on their own in a reading ;)
Have fun on your exploration of tarot!!

combinations of cards rely mostly on the subject and context. Like basic card meanings. Cards can represent a universe of meanings. With experience you'll learn how to sbstitute books with the voice from your heart.
However that can be a good reference at first but don't memorize the entire book. Use it at first, learn the process, and the let your intuition and your heart help along the way.

There is a book called "Tarot Decoder" by Kathleen McCormack ISBN 0-7641-0677-5 that gives you a block on each page that tells you what cards may (or may not) work in combinations. However, this presentation only seems to be done in the Majors and not at all with the Minors.
However - if you check out my book "It's All in the Cards" ISBN 1-4027-0986-2, you will find a whole chapter dedicated to card combinations. It took a lot of work to make sure each and every entry was cross referenced! :smoker:
