NB: This post is not the original post, it's been edited. I made an attempt at humour that was perhaps a bit clumsy and out of place. I really didn't mean it and apologise if I surprised anyone. My intentions were pure, I promise!!
Now, in case some of you good people missed my previous thread, I will patiently explain here again what it is that is being called for.
Kiama is soon going to be spreading her angel wings and moving to Cardiff to University. Now, it seems like she's not the best cook in the world, and also that her pockets will not be lined (as her heart is), with gold. And I was having sleepless nights worrying that she will only eat chicken nuggets full of anti-biotics and fish sticks with fish of rather doubtful origins. So I asked all those here who love Kiama (and that's EVERYONE, right?) to send me a recipe that is :
1) EASY TO MAKE
2) CHEAP
3) DELICIOUS
Now some of you have already sent me recipes and you are just wonderful, but some of you haven't (do you feel the rap of that ruler on your knuckles? Ouch.)
So I will give you all up to the 20th April to send a recipe to my e-mail address which is bakome@hotmail.com.
Please, DON'T post them here.
So, I hope my in-box will soon be overflowing with recipes.
I thank you all.

I am so glad I've sent my recipe in :D
When Kiama gets awarded the cordon bleu for her cuisine, we'll all be able to bask in reflected glory :)
All the best,
FH

What 'curse' ? Being rapped on the knuckles is a 'curse' ? Being told 'you will never bear children' it you don't do such-and-such is a curse. Honestly, sometimes I think people just look for problems that don't exist.

i realize that you are still somewhat new to this forum. we are hear to share information in a loving, caring, supportive, gentle way.
i find some of your posts to be inflamatory and i would like to request that you remember, (as a moderator, i suggest this same thing to others all the time) that you remember that we are all people sitting at our keyboards. you can always make you point..........but adding some light to it rather than anger is welcomed here at aeclectic tarot. :)
in light,

Liliana, with your input, Kiama will not only be able to feed herself and her boyf. but also all the neighbours, their kids and their cats. But if you want to send more, that's no problem. But you may also just sit back and relax and know that you have done your duty! :)

ramen... and lots of it.
here in the states, it's the staple for most college students as it is incredibly CHEEP. something like a case for under 5USD. and that's enuf to feed one person for two months or so.
so, that's my vote. ramen.
noodles... and whatever you need to put in it.
blessed be,
.dc

.dc: ramen sounds absolutely marvellous.
WHAT IS IT? Do you think we have it in Europe or is it an exclusive exotic North American delicacy?

I do not think ramen are a delicacy, but how it is prepared could make them a delicacy :D
Agree with .dc! My kids relied on them for dorm food along with tinned meat. Also instant stuff, such as cocoa, coffee, tea. Packaged macaroni & cheese is another "staple".
I keep ramen on hand because they are so versatile!
Ramen noodles are packages of instant noodles with seasoning packets in a wide variety of flavors to season to taste. There are different brands, but they are basically all the same except their prices may vary. Convenience stores carry them, too, but those retailers have a higher mark-up.
They can be used as an entree with veggies (&/or meat added); as a side dish or as a soup. The noodles are immersed in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes. I prefer to turn off the burner after the water boils, place the noodles in the water & let them sit for 3 minutes (so they do not over-cook because mushy ramen is blecchy)!
Will need to think about recipes...

.dc's right. i've become so removed from my college student roots that i'd forgotten about ramen. there must be 20 different flavors and it all tastes pretty much alike. when i was a student you could spend all your money at the beginning of the semester and still have food at about 20 cents a meal usd the last weeks of the semester. all you have to do is add hot water. if you can't boil hot water, you might be in a bit of trouble. ;) for more than carbs and a little extra flavor and a real veggie, cutting up some of those little sweet green onions(name?) goes good w/ ramen. at the end of 4 years or so you may never want to see a noodle again but ramen is the food of the gods for college students.

ROFLMAO ramen an exotic north american delicacy? we could buy a case and ship to the UK from the US to kiama and still not spend any real money! ramen is simply very cheap freeze dried flavored noodles. flavors range from pork, shrimp, chicken and beef. each package is fully loaded with your daily allowance of artificial flavorings and salt. boil some water. dump in the noodles and flavoring and let it sit about 5 minutes. MEAL! TA DA!!!!!!!

Ramen sounds a bit like Pot Noodles. Hmmm.... Don't think they'll be very nutritious! I was hoping to come out of uni without malnutrition! ;)

ramen is an asian noodle package.... it's dry so there's no need to worry about it spoiling. it comes with a flavor package (yes, there are about 20 different flavors to it) and you can cook the noodles in water and then dump the flavor package in it. instant meal.
or you can drip eggs into the water and ramen mixture for egg drop soup.
or you can put veggies in it for stew...
you get the point.
me and my boyfriend still live off the stuff... guess we haven't lost our college roots!
blessed be,
.dc

i checked the price on ramen today when we bought groceries. it costs even less than i thought--10 cents a bag or 10 for $1.00 usd. what a deal! so if you ate ramen 2x a day for 5 days you could eat for $1. i think kiama is right--this is the fast way to malnutrition. a pound of spagetti and a bottle of sauce is more nutritious for around $2 but it won't last for 2 meals a day for 5 days. :D :D

Ramen!
Oodles of Noodles. MSG! Blasts of Sodium!
Ten packs for a buck! Unless you buy it on sale!
A typical package suggests you add red and green peppers, garlic, olive oil, soy sauce, sliced scallions, bay shrimp, cubed chicken, diced tomatoes, sliced zucchini, shredded carrots, sliced celery, chopped onion, cubed cooked beef . . .
Bun'cha stuff you never really add.
But really, really cheap. . .

Ramen is marketed in the UK as Pot Noodle and wouldn't really be such a good choice for our friend Kiama. I do think she could find the real article in a Korean grocers but she'd only find one of those in London...
In England I find that if you want noodles then it hasta be pasta. lol

Don't forget baked potatoes! Anybody with a microwave can toss a spud in for 5 minutes, heap on a bunch of goodies from the salad bar at lunch (if you can find a way to sneak it out of the cafeteria... filling a napkin and tossing it into a purse/backpack always works ;) ) and you have an insto-meal.
Don't forget those 4/$1 us pizzas that fit in the micro... or anything ma sends in the care packages! (Trust me, nobody's mom is going to let them go hungry, if they act like they're starving. :) )
