I cannot but pick that one, my EVER favourite one...
Magic, Dragons, fights, guilds, half-wolves, half-orcs, half-whatever...
I am talking of
THE SLAYERS!!!
Well, Tenchi Muyo is ok... but can't stand the comparation Lili, sorry! ;)
DB? Dunno... Got so much of it I am not judgemental anymore... :)
I have never seen Perfect Blue (in Italy the only Anime in cinemas was Princess Mononoke... I don't need to add anything else :().
*Pollux gets sad... he must always buy Animes to see them...*

Damn, it's Sunday. All the shops are shut so I can't go and buy Perfect Blue.
Ghost in the Shell. Now that's something else.
And for the series: nothing will ever replace Dragon Ball in my heart (especially Dragon Ball Z. You should see the tears rolling down my eyes when Piccolo gets killed the first time. And also that scene at the end when San Goku salutes Bubu before killing him, is so moving and so honourable).
And then I like the Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star) series. Ken is my favourite hero and if I was still a sixteen year old and not a forty-two year old married mother, I'd want to marry him LOL

When you say anime, are you just referring to that weird Japanese film-style thing, or is it any animated movie, including Disney? Cuz I love Disney films!

Kiama: beware! Disney films can corrupt the mind. I have always thought that under-sixteens should not be allowed to see Disney.
And anime only refers to those great Japanese manga type of films. (Which wierd ones are you referring to? LOL)

I didn't discuss this with the grand-master of this thread, Pollux, but I would think he would grant you permission to count Pokémon as an anime.

Well, OK Kiama! You can count them! :*
Actually, I forgot to name them, but the Pokemon Movies WERE in cinemas actually, and I DID see them: you know, I took my younger cousins - all Pokemon freaks like me at the time!!! ;)
And, I must point out this: POKEMON are WAY better than DIGIMON and all clones... THANKS.
The only one I liked was the first... and I didn't even like it this much... but "Pikachu's Holidays" was surely FUN! :)
If you want, open up a new thread for Disney movies! ;)
DA*N IT!!! I WANT TO SEE THIS PERFECT BLUE!!! :(
I think I know something about it... sort of thriller, a singer in a group, success, dropping her career, psyche, regrets, BLOOD, something like that?
HUSH!!! You couldn't gimme better news! :D
I hope they will put it into cinemas... You know, once I had to wake up at 2,00 am to see AKIRA. It was the third time I saw it though! :p I still have problems with the plot, and, Diana, this also applies to GHOST IN THE SHELL maybe!!! :)

Oh, I'm glad Pokémon counts! It appears to be the case that it is the only Anime I've ever seen! But I like it.

pollux: basically perfect blue is about a singer who leaves to becpome an actress and she gets all over worked and starts to get a bit insane and you start losing it like her, where you dont know whats reality and a dream and days blend into each other..its amazing, it throws you as much as it does her. parts where dreams and reality are mixing aswell as the days and hours, locations and people. great stuff...and it all comes together at the end. i love it!
i still dont get akira completely, heh, but we did figure out most of it after watching it for like, the 20th time :D
i reeeeeeally need to buy ghost in a shell, its next on my list, but i gotta get some money!
dragon: i love card captor sakura!! hehe...

Jade, I speak here once again for the Grand-Master, Pollux (because I can guess his thoughts here): These three movies are highly unacceptable in this thread, but you are forgiven because we love you :)

OH! I was feeling all sad that I couldn't contribute to this thread - then I remembered one of my ALL TIME fav cartoons as a kid! I still remember details of the story lines that touched my heart...
Of course I am talking about Asto Boy!!! (I think he was called Mighty Atom in Japan)
I still remember crying in the episode about the robots racing car drivers that were lovers... they crashed, died but the heat of the crash melted there bodies together and all that could be heard was the combined beating of their hearts!
Astro Boy addressed so many issues is such a clever way.

But, ok jade, you are forgiven (no need to say that! :*).
I think we could also have a thred about Disney & Non-Jappo Animation... Should I open it?
HUSH!!! Buy GITS!!!! I'm going to buy Akira... actually, being pennyless, I could get it for my birthday, that's incoming! ;)
CARD CAPTOR SAKURA!!! CLAMP are my favourite, EVER!!!! I have everything almost that has been published in Italy - Oh CLOVER!!! It's so GREAT!!! and X!!! But the only Anime seen around were RayEarth (that I loved) and CCS, not a success at all... quickly replaced by Pokemon :( (Kerberos was so furios! ;)). I really can't afford to buy series... I 'd rather SEE (even if at night!:-) or tape them if I can't. Dragon, I'm green with envy! Maybe I'll go to a fare in Italy dressed as Inuyasha, they say I look like him (with white wig, of course!).
What do you think of Bersek? The series has started recently, at 11,45pm on Fridays... Since in Italy there's no short-Sunday week got nothing better to do at that time! :)
AH! Kayne, I think I am too young for AstroBoy!!! :p
I am joking! You know, they are broadcasting it still on a local Neapolitan TV! :)

Everyone's already said Perfect Blue - but I just have to rave about the character designs and editing!!! Excellent direction.
Hush> I saw Blood, but was extremely dissappointed that it was so short! It was like just beginning to unfold and then: bam. Credits rolling. I didn't like a lot of the voice acting - too stilted, esp the nurse/teacher? I've already forgotten :P But I loved the seiyu for Saya. She's like the Angelina Jolie of anime!! And yes, the lighting/colouring in that one is *amazing*
The Bebop movie was pretty good. I liked how it was just an extended episode - no more, but of course, no less. Nice camera work.
Let's see, is this just movies or series also? I've enjoyed Miyazaki's movies (no brainer)
Vampire Miyu OVAs (but *not* the tv series - bleh)
Serial Experiments Lain (oh the layouts!!! They're beautiful!! can you tell I am a total geek when it comes to this?)
Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Also a huge CLAMP fan. Shoujo manga has got to be my worst vice :P
So going back to Astro Boy and Tezuka (is that his name?)... has anyone seen Metropolis (no intentional relation to Fritz Lang's silent film)? I thought it was soooooo crazy juxtaposing those old school character designs w/the hyper computerized layouts... but very sincere, none the less. Amusing isn't it, how animation is visually less 'honest'/realistic than live action, but can portray more honesty than most of the live action movies being made nowadays...
