ATTENTION! Don't read this post until you've read the post titled, Have You Ever Been Cubed?
This is the answer to a game that I started in that thread, and it will ruin the game for you if you read this post!
Now, if you've played the game and imagined your desert in the other post, you can see the answer in the link I've added here!
So...what do you think? Let's hear about your Cubes, and your reactions!
Peace,
Melvis

my cube was blue and had many sections in it.
the ladder rested on my cube and went up 21 rungs to the top of palm tree.
my horse was brown and beautiful. no bridle, no saddle, just strong and free.
the storm was a tornado but it was away from me. it went around my space but it never entered it.
the flowers were pink, blue and white and covered the desert floor around my cube. too many to even begin to count.
the desert was massive.............sand covered rolling hills. very peaceful looking.
:)
thanks, i enjoyed that.
in light,
jade
~~~
edited to add: my horse was standing about 5 feet (2 metres) away from the cube happily grazing on some grasses.
melvis, i totally agree with your interpretation :) thanks :D
Jade: it sounds beautiful! It's nice that you have so many friends that "lean" on you (like the ladder) and so many "children." It's also great that the storms don't really bother you!
How cool! Here's what I imagined for mine, standing in the bookstore:
My desert was purely sand, with a few bluffs of craggy rock strewn through out it. I imagined sand dunes with those beautiful windblown patterns all over them that you see in photographs.
My cube was made of naturally finished cherry wood. It was hollow, but inside the box was a clear, round crystal that was nearly as big as the cube (which was about three feet on each side).
My cube was set into the side of a dune next to a long bluff.
My ladder was a wooden ladder with about 6 or 7 rungs. Each end was stuck into the side of a dune so the ladder laid flat spanning the valley between the dunes. I specifically remember thinking, "It's close enough to the cube so that I can reach it from the cube if I want to, but it's not too close." Wow...is *that* telling or what? I'm rather embarassed about that part! I immediately made several calls to friends to try to 'reach out' to that ladder!
My horse was beautiful and brown all over and was frisky and wise at the same time and...it was on the other side of the dune from the cube and miles away from it! :D Guess you can tell that I was hopelessly single at the time!
My storm was a dust devil type storm that moved all over the desert. The horse took shelter from it under an overhanging rock on the bluff. The cube and ladder were pelted with sand, but because they were so well 'grounded' in the dunes they didn't get blown away. (That one made me feel good! At least I'm 'well-grounded'!)
My flowers were small white flowers that were all over the bluff -- there were some on the overhang above the horse, there were some in a couple areas near the cube and the ladder, and there were flowers in groups all over the bluff.
Peace,
Melvis
the cube is a sandy looking structure from the outside, it's actually wood, with sand on it. it's hollow, with thick wands. somewhere is a hole where you can get in, and inside there are smaller cubicles.
this cube is just behind a dune of sand , so its not in the full wind if this comes from the usual direction. the desert is mostly sandy, some reddish and orange colors in the distance, hot and dusty during the day, cold and freezing in the night, beautiful landscape. near the cube are some treelike things, also some bushes and those plants you can drink water from in emergency.
the ladder is from the same material as the cube, wood. it's looking worn from use, as this one get's used alot to climb on the cube to have a good view of the surroundings. it's a ladder in two parts, which you make longer and shorter, right now it's about as long as the hight of the cube and leaning to it so you can climb on the cube.
the horse here is a weird one to find in a desert. it's a black frisian, they don't do that well in this climate, it's standing in the shade of the cube and the treelike things.
the storm which is gonna hit this desert is a big one, with looads of sand being swept in it, so if its near you better hide, lucky it's far away enough it wont swoop the cube with it.
the flowers you find here are small, with small leaves, mostly whitish/yellow with a touch of orange in it. they grow under the trees and bushes.
My Desert was vast, but the horizons were close. It was sandy, like golden beach sand, with a slight breezing moving the warm air gently across the surface.
For some reason, a single cactus stood fifty feet away, touching against the blue sky.
The cube stood in the dip between the dunes ahead of me, about fifteen feet away. It was about a foot across, and mirrored the sky...a bit like the microsoft sky...blue, with a few clouds gliding across. It rests on the sand, but at the same time feels like there is an invisible gap between the two.
The ladder climbed into the cube in front of me, but was further away, so that it looked like it was small, even though it wasn't.
It has seven rungs, i think.
The horse is 'white', unsaddled and unbridle. It is restless, and paced and trotted, sometimes between me and the cube, sometimes behind me, and sometimes beyond the cube. Sometimes it dissapears beyond the dunes.
The storm was nothing more than a darkening of the skies in the distance, and a fresher breeze. The blueness of the horizon darkened to a dark blue/grey with a hint of brown...
There was more tenseness then, and the horse trotted a bit more.
The flowers were snowdrops, at the base of the cube, and the beginnings of something thorny.
And hey...even i can see some stuff in there...
Wow. That's interesting. Here goes:
My cube is in 'the middle' of my desert and made of solid stone. (Color grey.) There are carvings on all sides of the cube, but I don't know what kind, other that they're ancient. (From a dream I've had a long time ago...) The ladder is old and broken, lying partly buried in the sand appr. five metres from the cube. The horse is black, well trained and strong. It's free without restrains and saddle. It's standing some metres from the cube, on another side from the ladder, glowing in it's power. The storm is surrounding the cube, the horse and the ladder. There are about 100 metres radius from the cube. The storm is not attacking the cube or anything else. It's more 'just there'. Don't know how to explain it better... :( Anyway, the flowers are also in a circle around the cube, but planted around it. They are all red and very beautiful.
This was very interesting.... :)
Um... My cube was a Rubiks cube! :eek:
The ladder had 7 rungs, was silver, and leant against the cube, and ended at the top of it.
The horse was a sandy colour, with only a saddle, and was in front of the Cube, looking contented.
My desert was vast, but behind the cube was an oasis, wth palms, and springs, and fruit,etc...
Te flowrs were in the forground, and innumerable! But they were all pink... (?) An the storm was the classic cone-like tornado, but was so far away that I was totally safe!
Yay!
Ok....My cube was red, made of a material like glass. It was just out there in the middle of the desert, and it is hollow inside, so you could go in it, if you needed to. So, it was big.
There was a ladder leaning up against the cube. I didn't count the rungs.
The horse was unsaddled - wild. It was near the cube, but not tethered there or anything. I don't know much about horse breeds, so I don't know what kind it was (don't know a whole lot about men, either - didn't realize how prophetic that would be!)
There were wildflowers scattered around, but just natural, not in a garden or anything.
There was a sandstorm brewing on the horizon, but I knew that it wouldn't hurt me - and besides, I have my cube to go into, with the horse, to protect me if I needed to.
My desert is very bright - almost blinding sunlight. It reminds me of the Australian outback desert - reddish sand and blue, blue blue sky. This is probably tainted by the fact that the only desert I have ever experienced has been in central Australia, and it was totally unlike anything I expected.
Sorta like me...LOL.
How fasinating this exercise was.....
Anyway here goes.......
My desert is flat and dry. The golden sand stretching until the eyes could see no more. Interestingly enough it was dark outside. The moon was full, and I could see for miles in the unusual desert night. The coolness in the air made my bones shiver slightly and occasionaly, as I stood surveying my surroundings, a warm gust of wind, like the kind on an early spring day, wrapped around me. The smell of this air was refreshing and warm. God, how I loved that breeze.....we all know the one I speak of.
Looking around I see some very strange objects in this desert.
The first is a cube, about a foot on each side, floating, spinning slowly, in the air about three feet off the warm desert sand. It appears to be made of metal.....hmmm. As I approach closer, it is now clearly identifyable......gold, the cube is made of gold. As it spins slowly, it reflects in the moonlight all that is close enough to see. The moon, the sand, the lightning from a distant storm, and a HORSE? What? A horse??
Turning slowly to my left I notice a horse. Strange, I think to myself, how does a horse get out into the middle of a desert.....better yet....why am I in the middle of a desert..hmmm.
Thinking that this horse could carry me away from here, I approach it slowly and almost trip over a ladder that I hadn't seen in the darkness. It was a wooden ladder about 6 feet long. The kind of ladder you would find in the basement of your grandfathers house. Made of sturdy wood, it's rungs used over the years. Half buried in the sand I could count maybe eight or so rungs. It was obvious that some of them were in better shape than others...but it was still usable. Although for what remains to be seen.
My attention drawn back to the horse, I notice that it is a great wild horse. Her white coat reflecting in the moonlight. But what I fear I'll remember the most about this great steed was the look this animal gave me. It was one of friendship, respect and honor. I knew at once that we shared a beautiful union. That as much as I felt I could be master of this beast, it always had the power to sway me. It's head was it's own. Wild and free, no saddle or bridle could ever adorn such a beautiful creature......in reality, it owned me.......hmmm.
It was then I noticed the flowers. Not too far from my companion, but not close enough too seem as though she was protecting them. They looked as though they were tulips, about to bloom. I could see, even in the light of the moon, that they had been properly watered and cared for...but how? In this desert was it possible?
All of a sudden a cold gust of wind hit my face. Snapping back to reality I looked around for the source of this uneartly breeze. In the north I noticed a large desert storm. The purple green haze of discharging lightning and rain very evident in it's midst. This was the kind of storm that rushes over the land with a great fury. Leaving destruction and mayheim in it's wake. I decided at that moment it was time to ride. To flee this coming evil. So without hesitation I mounted my steed and rode swiftly to the east, hoping to angle out of the oncoming rage, knowing in my heart that soon it would be upon me..............
Well there it is......story at eleven... :-))
My desert is not a sandy Sahara kind of place, but the high desert where I live. We have no ground water, just snow melt in the spring and rain during the mid-summer. Lots of small pine trees, cacti, sagebrush, scruffy grass. Beautiful clear blue skies. A 360 degree panorama.
The cube is a large cube made of panels of glass (like a greenhouse - which I would love to have by the way, but I digress).
The ladder is a metal extension ladder with lots and lots of rungs. It's propped up against the cube, presumably to repair broken panes of glass, etc.
The horse is sorrel (red), with a white blaze between his eyes. He's not bridled, saddled, nor is he shod. He's good-natured, inquisitive, wants to get at the goodies growing inside the greenhouse.
Tho there is some thunder and lightning, the rain is gentle and steady. The earth laughs in delight at the welcome nourishment and says "thank you" by scenting the air with the most wonderful perfume. The horse is rolling in the damp earth.
There are lots of small delicate purple flowers growing on vines that have appeared as if my magic with the rain.
(Melvis - do certain images have certain meanings? If so, are you gonna tell us?)
My desert was somewhat a cross of the astral and physical. A pond, with faeries and dragons, was where this cube sat. The cube was all colors, with a little faerie and her dragon friend inside it. Before them sat a shining crystal ball. The ladder seemed to be made out of roots, and growing from the earth and over the cube. It had about 21 rungs. (you know those things that are like a ladder, but they are bent so both ends are on the ground, it's a playground thing) My horse was a beautiful white Arabian. He had very ornate middle-eastern bridal and saddle. All hand beaded he tossed his head before dipping the elegant nose into the cool water. I had roses, hundreds of them. Growing up the palm trees, and around the cube. The horse didn't seem to mind the thorns. Storm clouds are way off, yet close enough that I can see the Chaos dragons dancing within them. That's mine!
I'm writing this without looking at the answers first:
My desert is arid and dry. There are sand dunes. There are a few cactuses here and there and some of those scrubby bushes.
My cube is in the middle of the desert. It is made out of glass/plexiglass with steel supports. It has a lid that you can open with a latch. You can see right thru it.
My ladder is wooden. About 10 rungs. It is leaning against the cube so you could climb to the top and get in through the latch on the top of the cube.
There is a horse standing by the ladder. He is a strong palomino. He has very ornate bridle and saddle, similar to the stuff they use in arabia or spain. Both the horse and the ladder are on one side of the cube.
There is a sandstorm approaching. The sand and wind blast against the cube, but the horse and ladder are safe on the other side. When the storm is finished one side of the cube is now translucent, it has been "sandblasted". The patterns are sort of swirly. The remaining sides of the cube are still transparent.
The flowers are cactus flowers, red, on top of the cactus'.
Rhiannon :) (Now i'm off to see how screwed up I am.)
added after reading the answers: wow, that was interesting. and very humbling! LOL :D
My cube was in the middle of a huge desert...It is a large cube made of solid sand..The horse was standing next to the cube eating grass and still looking for more..My ladder went to the top of the cube and the ladder had flower vines all around it...I kept seeing me or someone standing from a distance looking at the cube..My storm tornado went over the cube not effecting it or the ladder or the horse..However my someone was pelted with the sand arms up covering the face standing at a lean against the storm..Not trying to get closer to the cube just trying to stand upright..
I did this a long time ago, and forgot my answers and the meanings other than they were representative of things in your life.
I came to this thread to post my own cube-land, and read other peoples responses. It's so cool how many variations there are on the same scene!
And the weird thing is, that Amyel's description of her desert was almost exactly the same as mine, except for the cube.
My cube was black, made out of a metal like iron or steel - whatever that material that artists use to make those black metal sculptures. In fact, my cube *was* a sculpture. It was standing on one of it's cornersm not flat like it is supposed to. It was very large, at least the size of a 2 story house.
The rest of my scene was the same as Amyel's. My horse was very large though... like a Clydesdale from the Budweiser commercials. Which is really funny if you ever saw my husband, because if he were a horse he'd have to be a big one!
Storm was rumbling off in the distance, with some flashes of lightening. Like the summer storms we get here in the midwest U.S. But it was way off, and not very threatening. Probably a soft rain would be the worst of it.
Little wildflowers scattered everywhere.
Ladder went up the side of the cube, with lots of rungs, but I didn't count them.
But before you think it's WAY weird, I should tell you that Amyel and Lunar Rabbit are sisters! :-) We live in separate countries, but we have a pretty tight psychic connection in a lot of ways.
Neat! Thanks for posting THE CUBE. It's fun!
So what does it all mean? Here are some of the authors' speculations. But remember, they say the only one who can really say what your desert scene means is you! It's the way you saw yourself at the moment in time that you played "The Cube."
Desert: It's the stuff that's *in* your desert that really tells the tale. Although, if it's empty the authors say that you are probably very self-reliant and independent!
Cactus: Could represent difficult people in your life, or a troublesome relationship that stands out in your life at this moment.
Palm Trees: are sources of support, shelter and sustenance.
Water: We Tarotists already know that water in a desert signifies emotional nourishment, right? :D
Dunes: are highly suggestive of sensuality, or being really in tune with your senses.
Cliffs & Gullies: Lots of highs and lows in your desert signifies (what else) lots of emotional highs and lows in your life.
Cubes: The authors have identified seven basic cube positions based on hundreds of 'cubes' they've gathered over 10+ years.
- Flat on the Sand=The Realist
(practicality, competence, versatility).
- Floating=The Visionary
(dreamer, original, incurable romantic).
- Perched on a high point of ground= The Principled
(ideals, activism, integrity).
- Standing on one corner=The Perfectionist
(aspiring, solo performer, driven).
- Standing on One Edge
(where 2 faces meet)=The Expatriate (between, resourceful, adaptable).
- Pyramid-shaped
(all but one corner of cube is below ground)=The Unsung Hero (mystery, influence, self-sufficiency).
- Cube-shaped impression in the desert
(instead of an actual cube) or one made of something clear or water-like=The Receptive (introspective, nurturing, psychic).
The position of your ladder is also very telling. If it is leaning against the cube (as many of yours seem to be) that means you are a real 'people person,' the kind of person who'll say "lean on me" without a second thought. (That's so darn generous of you all!) If it's lying down you are very comfortable with your friends, you have very low expectations of them, or both. (Yikes! ;) )
The general description of your horse is supposed to be a general description of your lover/life partner. A saddle and bridle indicates a domestic situation, while lots of finery and ornamentation indicates a romantic mind at work.
Other than these basics, most of the interpretation of your deserts is intuitive.
Thanks to everyone who's played so far! :) I just love hearing about the beautiful deserts people find themselves in!
Peace,
Melvis
I want to write this quickly before I forget, so I'll read the other posts afterwards.
My desert was vast, rocky, hilly, stony, mountains of red rock in the distance, a huge cactus middle distance, left of centre.
Cube: huge, green, wooden, like a giant child's building brick. (edited to add: lying flat on the sand, center stage.)
Ladder: leaning on cube and reaching right to the top and slightly above, wooden, 10 rungs. Functional rather than pretty.
Horse: beautiful chestnut mare (!) with white blaze on forehead and white feet. Saddled and bridled and ready to take me wherever I want to go.
Storm: tornado in upper left of picture. Very contained and not having much to do with the main picture.
Flowers: suddenly appeared when I was asked this question - all over the place, huge bushes and tiny flowers, lots of red, some blue and yellow.
I wonder what all that means? (edited to add: now I've read the explanation. Wow!)
OK, I just thought this was hysterically funny so I had to share with all of you. I had my husband do this exercise and here are his answers:
Desert: Sand, cactus, dunes, occasional high winds, scorpions, rattle snakes, very hot but not humid.
Cube: 2ft by 2ft, clear, plexiglass.
Ladder: Wooden, laying there 10 ft away from cube.
Horse: Dead(!) no saddle, clydesdale, brown, next to ladder.
Storm: Sand storm covers everything.
Flowers: 3 (we have 3 kids) yellow, daisy like, no leaves.
I'd call him a sadistic, hippophilic, necrophile... but that would be beating a dead horse! LOL :D
my desert was huge...only thing i could see in every direction. a few dunes, the usual.
the cube was much taller than i was, and was like..metallic and like a big mirror type thing but metallic (heh, i dunno how to describe it)
ladder was propped against the cube and had 20 rungs going up, was just normal and wooden.
horse was my old horse, white with grey flecks and standing near me. it was standing looking strong with its long grey hair blowing in the wind from the storm, it was free with no saddle.
the storm was a proper electic storm that made the sky go purple and was blowing sand in my eyes.
flowers were kind of...i didnt have a specific number or anything, and they were growing around the bottom of the cube in little patches.
this was all very interesting, hehe...
Okay- I admit my stomache was growling when I read the post. Which, by the way, I misread to read - dessert- not desert. So, you can only imagine what I came up with. (I thought it was odd- but went along anyway- thought you would all get a laugh out of this- so I am admitting my faults and hunger) Next time I will eat before I start reading!
My "dessert" was a apple crisp cheesecake (had one at the cheesecake factory that was yummmy!).
It was smooth and creamy colored. A good size portion- wedge shaped. The cube was moderately sized , made out of a baked apple.Solid. With a firm yet mushy texture. It was placed in the center of my chees ecake slice.
The horse (I admit confusion at this point- but it was a game- so who am I to question putting a horse on top of a cheesecake?) was contentedly grazing behind my cube. He didn't have a bridle or saddle, but was very muscular, and looked as if he had been ridden recently- due to glistening brown sides. He had a very strong neck.
The ladder was made of a carmel and chocolate mixture- it leaned against the side of my dessert- from the plate to the top. I don't know how many rungs- but they were solid- thicker rungs than sides.
I tried to picture a storm- but the most I could visualize was a darkening sky- a bit ominous looking.
The flowers were behind my cube- spilling over from the crust area flowing down both sides and stopping at the back of my cube.
The flowers were blue, white, yellow, lilac and pink. Lots of lush green. They were not big, most were small delicate looking flowers. They were not in a garden, but growing wild.
