help me brainstorm! :)

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 11 Apr 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

hey guys ! I will soon be making my freelance business official -- and I need a NAME!!! It's always hardest to design something for myself, since I'm always changing my direction.

so, I thought it would be neat to see what others come up with.

I am a graphic designer, and this business would be a supplement to my full-time job. .... and since I'm so into tarot and magic, I wanted to encorporate some sort of that feeling into the name of my business. I was playing around with the name Arcana.

any other suggestions? :D

(btw, if I choose your name -- you win a prize! (seriously) heh heh. hmmmmm....)

let the brainstorms begin!

.dc  11 Apr 2002
oohers... joya, i'm in the same boat, however i;ve already choosen my name...

letsee here...

--it's in the cards--relates to stuff you can design with cards and tarot itself (sorta cheezy but it's a start)
--mind altaring designs
--designspel
--tangodesigns
--raven design studios
--mystique haus of design
--tempered works

ok, so it's not as easy as i thought. bummer...

i'll add more when i can.

funkpuss  11 Apr 2002
Hi joya,

I'm also a Graphic designer and Clairvoyant!
I would do something cheezy that sticks in your mind as people remember it also it's very catchy. ie I had a Co. called design4music, simple but catchy.

Sorry I havn't got any ideas but look at the type of market you want.
I know brainstorming could take time.

Good luck with the business!

"Bad Moon Rising"

blue  15 Apr 2002
I hate to state the obvious, but I always loved;

joya250

It stuck in my mind the moment I saw it and by now I suppose that it feels comfortable to you just like Blue does to me. It's got your energy and as a logo it could be very cutting edge. Kind of a cross between worldspeak and numeric information.

You've already tried it on for size, does it fit?

joya250  15 Apr 2002
:) hey guys. I'm still working on it! been real busy with other stuff (like paying the government lots of money. groan. somehow I filed that I had THREE KIDS!!!)

anyway... I'll be getting my butt in gear soon.

Blue, that's an interesting idea about using joya250 (pronounced two-fitty, that is...) :)~ my boyfriend said the same thing to me...

still thinking...

Butterfly  15 Apr 2002
Just a few practical things to think about- it's the marketing/business person in me.
I'm sure you know most of this. Don't think too much about your own interests- rather think of the interests of the people you are trying to attract. I assume you have a business plan and have identified your target group- while it would be wonderful for them to be diverse, accepting groovy thinkers like this forum- but in reality- who is really going to be the type that employ your services?
I'm thinking characteristics like gender, age, socio-economic group, industry etc. Your business name should act like a magnet to these people.
They are wonderful names that you have come up with so far. I love them- just remember the practical side as well. Do they describe the style of design that you specialise in. Is it going to be the kind of name that attracts or scares off the people you hope to attract?
A name is so important, it completely sets the style for the people who will be interested- and can unfortunately pidgeonhole you too!

Butterfly  15 Apr 2002
In a really round about way- I'm trying to get to the idea of branding. It is undeniably important as a marketing tool. You are dealing with people- who can be maddeningly human with their quirky consumer habits, based purely on perceptions and unformed ideas.
You name is your number one indicator of your brand- so it pays to be concious of what brand you want to display.
I have so many exercises, info etc on the area of consumer perceptions and marketing- happy to be of any help.
