Hello All

Not that long ago someone showed me a speech by Nelson Mandela. I believe it was the speech he held when he first became president.

It touched me. And i still blame myself forgetting to get a copy.
So i was wondering if anyone has the speech?

(and if you have it isn't it beautiful???)

Love and light

Maan: I have most of Nelson Mandela's speeches, books, writings, (political and many others). Do you remember a sentence or even just a few words of the speech you're talking about, just so that we're sure it was his inaugurational speech? Did he by any chance mention the "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King?

Let me know, and I'll see what I can do to help you.

Well the words i remember (translating the few words i remember from dutch in to english) are something about that our greatest fear isn't to be incompetent but our greatest fear is to be beautiful.

It gave me a lot to think about.
I'm currently working on my selfconfidence trying, to love myself etc. And that speech was an eye opener

Maan: I think this is what you are looking for, and which is why I couldn't find it any of his speeches. It seems like there is a mix-up somewhere, and the following is wrongly understood to be from Mandela, but it isn't.

Quote :

Our Deepest Fear

from
A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles

Note: This is often found on the Internet incorrectly stated as a quote by Nelson Mandela from the Inauguration Speech, 1994.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Mandela's inauguration speech is found on the following link, but doesn't mention what you were looking for : http://www.facts.com/cd/d94338.htm

Yes Diana that was what i was looking for!!!!!!!

A little of the strenght is gone since it is not from Nelson Mandela but it is still beautiful.

I'm going to read his speach anyway. I think he is a strong and enlighted person. To survive so many years of imprisonment and being able to embrace your enemy!

love and light
