Typical Piscean - I love to escape!
I am not into drugs, drink occassionally and can't stand gambling... so... MOVIES! I love them! They have got to grab my emotions or intregue to be brilliant :D
These are my top 5 movies as of today (they tend to change...)

Dancer in the Dark (Bjork is INCREDABLE!!!)

Moulin Rouge

Billy Elliot

The Lord of the Rings

The Talented Mr Ripley
So - what are your top 5 movies?

Difficult to choose five movies, but this is the best I could do:
Some are old, some are new:
1) Matrix (definitely number one - can't wait for the next two.) Every time I see this movie, I see things I hadn't seen before.
2) My Fair Lady (I always sing my heart out when I watch it).
3) Monthy Python and the Holy Grail. (This is just so funny, each time I split my sides laughing)
4) South Park. (It is so very politically uncorrect, so full of nonsense, and I just love the way the way the mickey is taken out of everything).
5) Ghost in the Shell (A Japanese anime film)

Here's 5 of my favorite movies (no order of preference):
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- The Man Who Would Be King
- Army of Darkness
- Tron
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail
(synchronistically, I'm wearing my "It's only a flesh wound!" T-shirt under my work dress shirt today)
Impossible to pick just 5, though.

#1 (all 3 tied for #1)the original star wars trilogy(i want to forget phantom menace was ever done)
#2 indiana jones:raiders of the lost ark
#3 matrix
#4 american beauty
#5 fiddler on the roof/my fair lady
#6 star trek: insurrection
i did love monty python and the holy grail, and 2001. i love just about any movie w/ harrison ford. that includes "blade runner".
while "the talented mr. ripley" was well done, the longer i watched it, the more horrified i got. just something about ripley's sociopathic talents made me sick to my stomach. it reminds me of when i went to see "tobacco road" done as a play by the local theater. it seemed most of the audience was rolling in the aisles laughing at how horrible and disfunctional these ppl were. it was impossible for me to laugh or find the play as entertaining b/c i knew such evil exists. maybe i take things too seriously. gotta try to think of a favorite comedy now. *******eureka! "Arsenic and Old Lace" with cary grant*********"what do women want" with mel gibson.

Movies! Movies! Movies! I love movies!
I haven't been seeing many lately, though. Maybe this list will get me back into the mood! In no particular order:
The Princess Bride
Original Star Wars Trilogy
L.A. Confidential & The Usual Suspects (can't decide which I like better!)
The Sound of Music
E.T.
Jurassic Park
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid & The Sting (that Newman & Redford match-up just does me in every time! *swoon*)
The Color Purple
It's a Wonderful Life
Ferris Buehler's Day Off
Shakespeare in Love
The Big Chill
The Sixth Sense
Oops. There's a total of 15 movies in that list! How can you guys pick just *5*? I guess I just don't know when to quit! I'm sure there are also some more recent movies that I'd add to the list, but I just have so many favorite 'classics' that I love certain scenes from. Like the scene on the cliff above the river in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or the part in The Color Purple when Celie is reading all the letters from her sister in Africa and you see scenes of Africa insterspersed with scenes from Celie's everday life.
OK. Now I gotta stop writing this reply, 'cause I keep adding movies!
Peace,
Melvis

Quills (About the Maquis de Sade superfically, and is not really for the easily shocked, but underneath the surface it is all about sexual expression, and freedom of speech. A lot of you guys are cheating here, or else you don't know how to count up to 5. Now listen carefully, it goes like this : ONE, then TWO, then THREE, then FOUR and then ........ FIVE! :D
But if you do it, so will I. To my list I'll add "Terminator 1" and "Terminator 2", and they only count as one 'cos they have the same title ;)

Kiama, if you have any complaints, please refer back to Kayne. I have no responsibility in this sad state of affairs. A registered PM to him should do it.
He just woke up one morning with an aim to make life difficult for us movie lovers. Now, a demonstration may be in order here. I'll go and paint my banners and get the loudspeaking system in order.

- Jade
- Malachite
- Diana
- Lanalafey
- Strange2
- Springfish
- Umbrae and
- Mystic
Who all successfully found and listed their TOP 5 movies, as instructed.
Excellent application of positive selective descrimination!

Well, I think I have to change my Top 5... From 5th to 1st now:
5 - MATRIX
Action, thought, philosophy, a hero... and add to this Mr. Reeves! ;)
What a soundtrack! And Special Effects! And those clothes, I want some!!!
4 - AMERICAN BEAUTY
A strong, yet true and touching portrait of nowadays society, not just American... I cried a lot after I saw it. A MUST. Beautifully Directed, I also find. The interpreters were ok. The Plot clever.
3 - MAURICE
Well-directed and interpreted. The adaptation is quite excellent, and when it differs from the book, it is better! :)
I am also personally linked to this one, since it's the movie of my "coming out to myself", as Kayne expressed. Maybe this is personal stuff you don't care a straw about, but that's part of my reasons...
2 - THE PIANO
Beautiful! Passionate! And so well-interpreted! GREAT!!!! I just love Jane Campion, she's grand - alas, I had to erase "Holy Smoke" to stick to 5 so as to get some positive reinforcement myself... ;)
And the Direction! FE, when the little girls talks about her father's death! LOL
A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE.
1 - AMELIE
I saw it last night. I still have to recover! LOL
She's GREAT!!! What a good actress! And the child-Amelie baby-actrees! They are just like!
AMAZING! FAST! QUICK! There was not ONE moment in which I didn't feel involved, or I felt distracted... You know how hard it is for a Gemini to keep focused! LOL
GO SEE IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!!!!
P.S. KAYNE I DEMAND POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT FOR ME AS WELL!!!!

Oh dear Pollux, are you an Amelie fan as well? I sometimes wonder if I saw the same movie as other people. It had some amusing moments, and I just love Jamel (the one-armed grocer). But I was pretty bored throughout. I thought it was too sugary, full of spice and all things nice.
(I must say though, that the Garden Gnomes were a fantastic idea).
Maybe it's better in the dubbed English version?

Diana: I saw the Italian dubbed version of Amelie, and it just ROCKS!!! You might think about it, considering you are quite fluent! :)
Italian dubbers are GREAT!!! I can say that 50% of foreign movies in Italy is made up by dubbers, since they re-interpret roles. A brief example (this is also for kayne, we started discussing this and I wasn't finished!): MATRIX.
I saw it in Italian first (consecutively twice actually!), and I was overwhelmed by the story, the dialogues, THE CLOTHES!!!! I think that was bliss... BUT later I happened to buy a cheap verson of the original language movie. And it was soooooo disappointing (I'll never forget how disappointed I was by the first scenes - Trinity's Escape - and that of the Disco Club - when Neo and Trinity met. :(
Of course I am NOT a native speaker, but I can assure you my spoken English is better than my written, and I have seen tons of original language movies, and talked to tons of mother-tongues OF COURSE!!! :)
In addition, I have seen all the movies of my Top 5 in original language; "Matrix" and "American Beuty" also in Italian, and "Amelie" only in Italian.
I dare say it, Italian dubbers give twice pefect interpretations, since it's not them to play, and they have to stick to that of the actor/ress... And Matrix for me is clear example of this. :p
Jade, my reply to you is brief... THANKS! ;)
Kisses to you all - :*
P.S. KAYNE I WANT POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT!!!

1. matrix
2. army of darkness

4. fight club
5. akira
my favorite genres tend to be horror, anime and dark stuff.
btw, anyone looking for good anime should try to find (and buy cos you cannot rent it anywhere) LAIN--serial experiments. it's very matrix-y like and very very intense.

aeonx: Ha ha yourself! At least I tried not to cheat. You didn't even try, you've put down 14 movies (and I'm being nice here, 'cos I didn't count all the number ones, twos and threes). :D
If you like, I can send you my son's maths tutor. He's specialised in arithmetic (or numerics, as they call it now).
Too bad for you, you don't get a sticker. I got one, 'cos Kayne didn't notice that I'd added Terminator. Or else he's just being nice, 'cos he wants me to buy him a cuckoo clock if he comes through Switzerland on his travels. Anyway, now that I've got that sticker, I'm certainly not going to give it back!

Always happy to share mine. For the time being, they are:
Quadrophenia (The Who) A classic "coming of age" flick, and one I really related to for some reason. Features Sting in his movie debut.
Yellow Submarine (The Beatles)
Iron Giant (Animanted)
Snow Falling on Cedars (This was just such a beautiful film: wonderfully photographed, and it really speaks to me concerning the mysteries of love -- "the chambers of the human heart")
Moby Dick (The original John Huston version, with Gregory Peck)
Well, that's five. But there are so many more!
