Not sure where else to post this... it's sort of Tarot related, but would relate to other methods of divination as well, especially ones where people are watching you lay out cards, runes & whatnot...
I've become more aware of this lately, since I've started doing readings for other people. I am a chronic nail-biter! I also bite the skin (cuticle) around my nails! EEEWWW! It looks just AWFUL! I'm having a hard time stopping, but I'm trying.
I've also considered (once my nails look nice ;) ) using Mehndi. I think it looks very attractive and will add some interest to a reading. Not that a reading needs any MORE interest. Just a thought.
So, how important is the way your hands look to you?

Hi!
I have the same problem, and always had (as far as I can remember)... If you can think of a way to stop (I don't realize what I'm doing until it starts to hurt, and by then it's too late...), let me know - my hands look terrible... :(
What is Mehndi? I'm curious...! And what does it have to do with reading....?
Love and light!
Jenny :)

As I usually wear about 5 fingerrings with quite eccentrical decorations I have to make sure that my hands/nails look proper eg no earth, stamp ink or stuff like that under the nails.
I do not use nail polish, so manicure is no great matter to me.
I like your idea with Mendhis. Strange, most querents expect you to look like somehow extraordinary but I do not overexaggerate with their expectations.

I have horrible nails. I don't bite them, but they're paper-thin, so they break really easily.
I used to wear up to 17 rings at a time, everyday, including when I read Tarot... It did look quite eccentric, and people liked that. Now, I just wera the one pentagram, and don't worry about what my hands look like.
Although, now you mention, Medhi would be SO cool!

All right here
Mehndi is this dye worn by females in india, but has been gaining some popularity in the US, you use it to draw ornate patterns on your body, then wash it and it leaves brownish lines in the form of the picture you drew, or they have it in temporary tattoo form with the design already drawn for you.
Your sooking in it is from an old american commercial for dish soap

malachite,
there are commercials for palmolive, a dish washing soap. they had a woman called madge that would have her clients (she was a manicurist) soaking in palmolive cause it's sooooo good for your hands.
they would ask where the palmolive was and she would say, "oh my dear, you're soaking in it"
LOL
jade
ps i have great nails but i cut them off so i can type faster. being a writer by trade, i need to get those ideas down quickly.........LOL

rhiannon,
i have the same problem as you have, i don't know how to stop this. i don't bite my nails, only next to it, when you take a shower or something it looks horrible, like there are (huge) pieces of flesh out of your finger, well everyone has something like that... by me it's because i'm a nervous person, i can't stay from my fingers then.
kiama,
a year ago i had the same problem, you have to take some limepills, that really helps or some mineralpills, it's because you be short of minerals/lime (hope this is right, i looked it up in my dictionnary)
next to this, i always take care of my hands, they have to be clean and pretty, elegant, lol...

AH!...Its Henna!
And thanks Jade...Everything is clear to me now!
:)
Oh! and there was a question for this thread, wasn;t there...
I play guitar quite a bit, so I tend to remember to cut the nails one one hand, and forget about the other one...although I do try and keep them clean...
But since I'm not a pro reader, I don't really have to worry about impressing clients...
