I am a person who loves to travel, and see the world. I am asking the lovely people here where they have travelled. Last March, I had the opportunity to travel to Europe with my french class. We were able to see many places in Italy and France. We were able to see Venetzia(Venice), Firenze(Florence, IMAO, the most beautiful city I have ever seen), Sienna, Pisa, Nice, and Paris. As I have said, I think my favorite place we visited was Florence. That city was just beautiful. Next time I get back, I want to visit Rome, Verona, Milan, and Naples. Perhaps Siscily(sp??) too.

What is the most favorite place you have ever been too??

Hmm, I'm not a big traveller and I've mainly been travelling in Australia- after all I have the most beautiful country on my doorstep.
Overseas, I've been to California, Hawaii (Oahu, Mauii) and Cook Islands (what an experience!).
I've seen much of the east coast and states of Australia, from Cape Tribulation (the only World Heritage Area in the world where the rainforest actually meets a coral reef), to Lightening Ridge (opal mining village) down to Melbourne. Many many times.
Strangely, Europe doesn't interest me- strange I know. It's not people and buildings that attract me to a place- it's the wilderness and landscape and environment.
My favourite places? Cook Islands is unbelievable- think Hawaii before it had even heard of tourists. But Byron Bay ( a wonderful new age, beachy, hippy, dippy place) and Far North Queenland (Daintree, Great Barrier Reef, Kuranda, Cape Tribulation) are well and truly attached to my heartstrings.
Hmm, I'm Aussie through and through I guess...

Hello Phoenix!
I live in Maine, USA. The most traveling I have done is going to Las Vegas and by amtrak. My husband and I boarded the train in Boston and it took 3 nights to get to Las Vegas. It was so coool seeing the countryside at ground level in a train. We had a private room with beds and our own shower/toilet in it too. It was very enjoyable. The train went right up the Rocky Mountains and into the Moffat Tunnel (which was total darkness for 6 miles). It was beautiful traveling thru the deserts and watching the sun set. They had a beautiful dining car and I loved eating on the train while enjoying the scenery. Didn't get to see too much of Last Vegas as I was there for a purpose but what I did see I loved. I want to go there again, hopefully by train again with my daughters when they are a little older so they can enjoy it too. It was one of the best experiences of my life!

In High School I went to England, France and Spain. I dont remember it too well, tho, because right after I came back my father died. I do remember being picked up by a French guy who gave me a free ride on his carosel (with translation help from 2 British men who happened to be there cause I dont speak French), pickedup by a Spanish guy in Madrid who took me to McDonalds, which is amazingly expensive there, and another Spanish guy who tried to pick up every girl on the trip, and had wandering hands which did not make chaperones happy hehe. Oh, andIremember eating escargot for the first time in France with a girl from Washington, buying lingerie in France, andeating paella in Spain. Fun trip, but tiring, we did the 3 countries in 2 weeks and pretty much a new city every day. We did take the overnight train from France to Spain, with those 4 person sleeping compartments. Ive also been to Florida and the Bahamas, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Deleware, Maryland, Wahigton D.C and Virginia. My favorite place tho is Toronto Canada, its where I had my honeymoon and I adore it

Jordan, Israel, and Egypt.
Denmark, Canada...and of course the US (because I live here).

aeonx  30 Apr 2002
Greetings all.
I've been five times to Greece. Twice my family and I went sailing among the islands. That was a fantastic experience! Then I've been once to Turkey and once to Spain. Of course I've been to Finland and Sweden. Yes, I've been one day in London as well. :P

However, the most wonderful journey I've been to, was in the summer of 2000. Then I went backpacking in Thailand for 6 weeks, and none of my other holidays can match up to this one. I came home a changed person, and I got in touch with my inner self and my spirituality. It was absolutely fantastic!

The 2nd of July I'm going back, and this time I'm staying for 2 months. Guess if I'm looking forward!?

I dream of going to Ireland and Iceland especially. Some day I will. :)

Then of course, we're going to Naples, Italy to see Pollux and have the Aeclectic Tarot Convention of 2003! :P Isn't that right? *s*s*

Blessings,

~aeonx~

Daddy served 20 years...I feel like I served my 16 yrs....
We lived in Alaska for 3 years and I remember the moose eating out of our garbage can... and Daddy caught a fish; as long as from holding his arm straight out, all the way to the ground (It was some kind of cat fish).(He was 6'8")
We lived in Okinawa, Japan for 3yrs and I remember him coming to school to get me and telling the teachers we had to have shots(always having to have shots.) And instead taking us to the beach... We (4) kids would catch star fish and take them to mother and ask her to watch them for us while we went for more... she did; we put them down she would watch them go back to the water. I nearly drowned there and they never knew it... taught me respect for the water.
We lived in Ft. Wachewca(?) Arizona, White Sands, New Mexico.
Deer Park,Alabama, Lucedale, Mississippi.
Mannheim,Germany...I loved it there, beautiful country...
We went to the parks where deer and squirl(?) would come up and want you to feed them, The burning of the castle on the Rhine River is breathtaking, and I loved going to the ruins of the old castles....(my imagination would run wild there)
North Augusta,South Carolina. Augusta, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia. Maryland (can't remember the city)& Paducha, Kentucky
now that was a beautiful place...(outside of town of course...very clean)
And by the way...Thanks for the remembering of memories...

kayne  30 Apr 2002
Excellent timing Phoenix! I was just about to post this link in a new thread... I just came back from a weekend down South in a little town called Denmark... check out my photos here (you should see me in every one!)

I have done a bit of travel around Australia (particularly the South West...) but, as I have said before, next year will be the big one for me! I plan on spending at least a year travelling and working in Europe, particularly in London as a base... moving on from there. :D I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Bings  30 Apr 2002
My husband is in the US Navy so we don't really travel. We MOVE. We have lived in (in order) Pensicola, Florida. Key West Florida. Adak, Alaska. Jacksonville, Florida. Winter Harbor, Maine. Rota, Spain. Elizabeth City, North Carolina. And we are about to move to West Virginia. In between all of these moves there has been time spent in Upstate New York.

Alaska, Maine and West Virginia are all just beautiful. I love the mountains, lakes, streams. I didn't care for Florida. Just too flat there. Spain was wonderful. It is a beautiful country. I wish we could move back there for another 3 years. If you ever get to Spain make the effort to go to Gibraltar. It is an amazing place.

Last summer I was able to vacation in Ontario, Canada. We had a wonderful time. Niagra Falls, Toronto.

My father was military too, floracove! 20 years.

I know places I've been and don't remeber like: Augsburg, Germany. I was about 3 when we were there. We have some wonderful pictures though.

I do remember: Monterey, CA; Berlin, Germany (while the wall was still intact); Ft. Bragg, NC; Ft. Devens, MA; and my mom, my sister and I stayed in Penns Grove, NJ with family while my dad was in Sinop, Turkey. (2 times)

As far as travelling now, hubby and I had our honeymoon at the Caesar's resort in the Poconos. The one that's famous for the Champagne glass hot tub. LOL Cheesy, but awesome. We had a swimming pool in our room!

Trying to save up money to take hubby out of the states on our next trip. I'd love to go to Egypt, England or Ireland. *sigh* some day!

Rhiannon :)

Wow. It sounds like i've never been anywhere, now. *L* I've travelled the lower 48 states of the US, quite a few of them on foot. (I've been known to load up a hiking pack and disappear for months... almost flunked 2 grades because of that.) Took a day trip into Canada once, just north of Montana, more in the flatlands than anything.

Somebody take pity on me and drag me to Europe? :D

Oh, and on the up side... I DO know where the Moffat Tunnel is!

amyel  30 Apr 2002
I've been to Australia, several times. I've seen alot of the country, from Darwin, to "the center" (Alice Springs, Uluru, Olgas), Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Armidale, Canberra, etc...still lots more I'd love seedown there, including Perth and the western desert/shore, Adelaide, etc.

I lived in Western Canada (Calgary) for 15 years, so I've seen alot of the west, including such stunning places as Prince George and Yellowknife, and of course Vancouver and the interior BC; the Rockies from Waterton Nat'l Park up to Jasper Nat'l Park.

In the US, I've been to Georgia, and various parts of Florida, and the East Coast states of Maine, Vermont, Massessschusets, Conneticut, New York state (but never NYC). I grew up in Michigan, so i've seen lots of that state, including all the way up to the "U.P." (upper pennisula) and Mackinac Island.

For my honeymoon, hubs & I went to France, England & Scotland. It was my second visit to London & France. We missed going to Budapest and Prague, because it was too costly to get there. We still regert it, because now that we have a mortgage, it's unlikely we'll get back to Europe anytime soon.

Now that I live in Ontario, I have visited Toronto more times then I have cared to (sorry Toronotians) and I am close to Montreal and have visited there not as much I'd like to, considering it's only 2 hours away. Hubs & I also love Quebec City and sometimes go to visit for those times we wish we were in Paris.

This winter, I'll be travelling to the Canadian east coast (Halifax) and the far west (Vancouver Island), neither of which I've ever been to. Despite the fact it's for work, I am still looking forward to it.

Maan  01 May 2002
I only travelled in Europe. I wish some day to go to Egypt and Australia.

But i have seen some great country's arround here, France, Itlay , Belgium, Denmark, Turkey, Croatie, Venice,Germany, Spain, Switzerland and England

wavebreaker  01 May 2002
I love to travel and try to visit as many places as possible.

I've visited most Western European countries and my favourites are the UK (lived there for 6 months), Ireland and Spain. I've been to the Middle East several times, where I visited Tunisia, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. I've been to the Far East twice, visiting Indonesia and Vietnam. I've also been to the US, where I've visited New York, New Orleans, Seattle and Florida.

But my absolute favourite is Australia. On my first visit, two years ago, I travelled from Darwin through the centre to Adelaide, and from there via Melbourne to Sydney, after which I took a plane to Cairns to dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
On my second visit, last year, I travelled from Cairns along the coast to Sydney.

kayne  01 May 2002
Oh tarotlady_nl! You have missed the best bit!!! The South West of Australia is beautiful - you have to visit Perth, it is such a pretty city. Check out the photos I took last weekend when I went to Denmark, South West Australia - just to get you motivated to come here! You can see such huge trees!!!!!

wavebreaker  01 May 2002
I did go to Perth on my first visit, but I stayed with friends who lived in Mandurah, which is about 1,5 hours south of Perth. I did visit Fremantle, but didn't have time to visit Perth.
I also went on a whale watching tour to look for humpbacks but we only saw them from a distance. The next day I went on a trip to dive on the wreck of the HMAS Swan, which is near Dunsborough, and on our way two adult humpbacks and a calf swam past our tiny little boat. It was a great sight which I will never forget!

But I'd love to come back... I would also like to visit the northwest and Tasmania.

And here are some of my travel pics: http://community.webshots.com/user/pgfb

zorya  02 May 2002
the place that most changed me was india, ahhhh india!
the place i love to visit over and over is mexico. i've traveled all but a couple of the states. i've also been to england, southern spain, gibralter, morocco (very, very intense), hong kong, venezuela, belize, canada (just ontario so far), and most of the u.s. (as i live there).

Logiatrix  02 May 2002
aah, india! what a magical place!
actually, the best trips i've taken have been in the labyrinths of my own mind!
;)

Emily  03 May 2002
I'm a bit of a 'homebody' , I've only been out of the UK around 3 times, My holidays are took here, usually Scotland or Wales, and I've never felt the need to travel further. I think a holiday is what you make it and some people need to have a complete change of scenery, food, etc - I don't lol
Actually without sounding boring I can have just a good time at home, or in Wales, Scotland etc, as I can abroad :)

amyel  04 May 2002
I have aslo been to Fiji. I still think it is one of the most beautiful countries around!!!! Every time I see "Shipwrecked" (a "survivor" type series out of either the UK or Australia) and I hear the "Bula, Bula, Ni sam Bula" chant, I am brought back to thsi beautiful island and the gentle inhabitants!

* "Bula" means "welcome" in the native Fijian dialect....it implies more then just hello, it's more like "hello, I am so glad you are here to share this time with me".....

Malachite  04 May 2002
I never get over reading about people, esp. from the US, who proudly say they 'did england', or 'europe', in about 2 weeks...i'm not making a dig, but believe me, it you haven't been for a year, you haven't seen all of it! ;)
I guess its the result of being used to travelling hundreds of miles to go somewhere...do that here, and you zip past thousands of places and things...

So far, I've only been abroad once, to France on a school exchange, so I didn't really get to see much of the place. Usually my family can only afford to go somewhere else in the country, so I've been to Wales, Scotland and the Cotswolds, and to see my relatives up in Newcastle.
However, I'm going to spend a month the in the Czech Republic and Austria this summer, and I get to come back through Switzerland and France..hell, I might even go to Liectenstein just to say I've been there....:)

zorya  05 May 2002
we americans are such lovable types :* aren't we malachite! hee hee
i do think it's not accurate to say you've "done" a country in 2 weeks. although you could say you've been there or visited. i think part of the "american" problem, is that americans get much, much shorter vacations then europeans. many are lucky to get 2 weeks vacation a year. getting 4 weeks is considered a great job, or you've been there a very long time. my husband and i often took two years vacations back to back, and then every extra day we could get away with just to have anything close to enough time.
when we were able to travel, we did it with everything on our backs. we hitchhiked or took 2nd class busses. i've slept in many a bus station. and shared several rooms with rodents. it used to drive me nuts to have people tell me that they went to a particular country, only to find they stayed at an american resort, in some tourist town. now that i'm older a resort doesn't sound half bad.lol i just can't imagine
spending that kind of money or traveling that far to never really see a country or meet the people.

Malachite  06 May 2002
Zorya...no offence intended...please?..:)

2 Weeks is normal here as well! I'm only getting lots of time off cos I'm finishing School, before heading off to uni....so I have Jul, Aug, Sep as spare time...mix of work and holiday, i guess...;)

Kiama  06 May 2002
Oh dear.... I've hardly been anywhere!

Glastonbury is the place I love travelling to though... Even though its still in my own country, I LOVE IT!! I have also been to France on French Exchange... Florida, Germany.... London, Oxford, Cambridge, Devon.... So I've mostly travelled the UK...
