Just bought a book on Feng Shui and I find it really fascinating. Is anyone else interested in this? I especially like the idea of using color to create moods, and a feeling of emotional "safety" in your home. The book includes a section on Nine Star Ki astrology to figure out whether you are a tree, earth, water, fire or metal type person. Anyone have any further experience with Nine Star Ki?

Feng Shui is really fascinating isn't it. I know clutter drags me down incredibly.
I've been fascinated about the psychology of colour since we touched on it at uni. When I own my house house- this year goddess willing, I intend to paint every room according to the appropriate mood we want for the room.
Sometimes I go into peoples houses and just shudder- the new trend towards bright red walls is craziness, just asking for trouble.
Colour psychology goes far beyond feng shui- but it's worthwhile knowing that the ideas are still the same- obviously a deeper meaning there.
I used to know a little about Nine Star ki but that was years ago- I completely forget!!
But anyway, the effect of feng shui is undeniable. It makes such a difference- especially the number one rule- clutter!!

Anyone who's interested in feng shui should also take a look at two books by Christopher Alexander, "The Timeless Way of Building" and "A Pattern Language." They're all about how to design an environment (a town, a building, a room) so that it feels "alive."

i really like richard websters books. he is very good at explaining things in simple to understand ways.

Fantastic Original Destiny- so what did she do- tell us more!
Geenius at Wrok- I'll have to tell my hubbie about those books, he has a degree in the built environment, and is very interested in the life force (he sees the building as a human body/mind/soul) as well as energy efficiency of buildings.

My daughter went to a few Mind Body Spirit festivals...she got to know a nice lady who runs a f/s stall..Emma (my daughter) got a lot of advice just from talking to the lady...she has altered the colors of the rooms . moved furnature around...bought nice ethnic light shades...an indoor fountain near the back door etc...The layout of her flat she couldn't alter but by consulting a book on the subject she altered the FLOW thru the flat...i dont know what book she used...there are many on the market..The result is amaising...She also has a spirit in the flat...she doesn't know if it is the same one that used to visit her when she was a little girl, bot her and her partner often Feel its presence..:TFOOL

I'm just becoming interested in feng shui. One of my friends did it in her apartment and was really pleased, and it made everything so pretty too. So I'm working on trying to do my place, but I have so much junk that it's not going so well! I have a little relationship corner in my bedroom and my best friend, who lives near Chinatown in San Francisco, is going to try to find me some Mandarin ducks. I also got a fountain for my wealth corner in the living room (I've wanted one for a long time) and red ribbon to tie on everything. The cleaning needs work, though!

Can anyone recommend some good books for me? I'd like to hear more about Richard Webster.

Thanks,
Kellinator

feng shui is really intresting. being chinese, i get all these information from my mom or older relatives. almost every aspect of life has something about placement and colors. for example, getting a house was so much trouble because of bad feng shui in the location of the house. not only location, but where the doors face, where the bathrooms are located and all that.
i remember that when they found out i was read tarot cards they said that with reference to feng shui, you shouldn't do it more than 3 times in one day if you're not experienced or else you get "tired" and don't get good readings anymore. also, they said that doing one's fortune on a birthday is more accurate because of the moon placings... well, lunar birthday atleast.

well i have richard websters book right here in front of me (we are currently working out the feng shui for our new house)

i really love his books...this one "feng shui for beginners - successful living by design" is really great. he covers so many aspects of feng shui but not in a way that it's overwhelming. you just go thru it, chapter by chapter and slowly but surely create a better home for yourself.

actually i really like all of llewellyn's beginner series. at first i thought {yuck beginner} but after reading them......they are soooo excellent. the writer doesn't talk down to you, but rather he/she enlightens you to a new way of thinking.

Barnes and Noble University have a free course, called Feng Shui for Your Home: http://www.barnesandnobleuniversity.com/BaseServlet/sched_home;jsessionid=aaabrFpwYZ6pCF?schedulingId=5000481

It's very basic, but it could be a good way to start and see if it appeals to you.
I have two books on Feng Shui which I liked a lot: "Feng Shui made easy" by William Spear, and "Feng Shui" by Sarah Rossbach.

Sam  19 May 2002
i've read a little bit about it and i decided it was too complicated.

Rhiannon  20 May 2002
Remembered to bring my book with me to the computer, finally. It's called "feng shui: back to balance" by Sally Fretwell.

I'll start a new post on how to discover the first 2 #s of your Nine Star Ki... and what the #s mean.

Rhiannon :)

ya, you are right, it can be very confusing which is why you really need to start at chapter one and work your way thru to the end.

:)
