i voted other, coz i am not a try hard vegetarian, i don't eat meat very often, but i don't try to be vegetarian.
i will eat basically anything that i get shoved under my nose, but as me is the cook here, i don't cook meat very much.
i loooove fish/seafood though :)

me omnivore (who is shortly starting work again, honest)
Sometimes I go for ages without meat, my body just seems to know what it likes and when

ps some people eat vegan/ veggie for meditative purposes don't they? Can't say I've ever noticed it makes a difference, I do note in my journal what I've been eating drinking etc in case I note a pattern

I'm an omnivore at the moment, but will be going vegetarian at University, probably leading ino becoming vegan.

WEll...I evolved omni, so i'm sticking to it.
Wolves are allowed to eat meat, so i am too!
But I do try and keep my veg side up...and I will probably try and stick to freerange meat once I am in control of my own food supplies...

I could never believe that! *LOL*:D
I adore fish and seafood and all that comes form there... but meat stinks... and bleeds... and my stomach is wary of it... eeewww... I can't stand it any more, and I started avoiding it so much time ago, but it is just a 9 months I am being veggie.

i was a strict vegan before my hubby and i got together.
i yearn for those days again but the kids and he love their meat too much and i won't cook two meals for us.
so i eat alot of salads and veges and some meat.
but no beef at all. and mostly organic of anything else i eat.
in light,
jade :)

I don't know what to eat anymore. Since the mad cow business, I've gone off meat. I mean they were feeding these cows meals with flour made from rotten pigs carcasses. So then what are they feeding the rest of the animals with? And a lot of fish have high doses of dioxine and mercury and stuff like that. Pity, 'cos I love fish.
And so I eat lots of fruit and vegetables and rice, and fish if I can find some that seems edible. And I used to eat lots of soya, but now I suppose it's all mixed up with genetic stuff. So I just try and forget that food is today often more poison than anything else. I flush it all out with lots of mineral water.
Most of the stuff that's called food is not food. It's just all a big farce.
There, now I've had my little rant and I'll stop sulking and go off to another thread. :D

Hi Diana: I know how you feel... It is worrying, to think that we don't know exactly what we are eating at all! I think one of the only ways to get round this would be to buy organic (Expensive, yes...) or grow your own food! This would be my ideal, but living with the parents at home makes it quite tricky...
Pollux: I am going veggie, although I love a good Rump steak, cuz I will be living on a grant whilst at Uni, and money will be tight. Meat is extremely expensive. Depending on how that works out, I may go vegan.... Although I still have got alot of research and diet balancing before that happens!

YUM fresh food. I prefer fruits and vegies and dairy over beef and such. But I will eat what ever is around. even the garbage that comes out of a box. If I could graze at a market, it would mostly be a vegitarian diet. I eat what I crave for that moment. Meat is usually like fish or turkey. I do a hamburger about once a month. Lot's of french fries though. My favorite lunch, fries and a big salad with a milkshake(strawberry if it's real).

Meat, meat, meat... Lots n lots of meat... *L* I was raised (since about age 10) on a ranch. Lots of really good, fresh beef. Not to mention the avid hunters in the family - elk, venison, antelope, turkey, pheasant... Yummy...

I've been vege for almost a year now - took a lot of getting used to , but I love it now, and don't think I'll ever go back! It's such a pity it took me so long to become vege (at 25 years old)!!
If you were going to go vege or vegan, New Zealand is the place to do it! We have great organic (certified) foods here - from bread to veges to fruit to grains to tofu etc... I guess I'm really lucky to live where I am, and GE-free foods are really popular (especially with the rich n fancy people lol :D ). This year I'm gonna vote for the "Green Party", who are totally against GE food and also I htink most of them are vege too :) . They actually have quite a influence here in local politics, of which I'm glad. They have stopped de-forestation of native timber (to the annoyance of the local workers - a whole town!). Because NZ is such a small country, we can afford to live like this.

I just tend to classify myself as 'don't eat meat' - I've found out the hard way that if you classify yourself as 'vegetarian' or 'vegan' there are some people out there that will immediately start asking you to justify yourself!
(for example ... Why are you vegetarian? Is it religious? Are you a hippy? But we breed animals to be eaten! Don't you know plants have feelings too? Don't you like the taste or something? You're going to get anaemic! I'd never let my daughter do that... :D )
Just a long winded & probably far too cynical reply :)
PS - Kiama, I've been vege/vegan for ages so if you have any questions about recipes or nutrition or anything just PM me, I'm happy to help!

I am an omnivore and rarely have a meal without some tupe of meat. I LOVE trying new meats! Some interesting native delicasies that I have enjoyed include: Emu, Kangaroo, Crocodile and even traditionally cooked witchety grub!

well, i was a vegetarian for six years, mainly because i done like many meats at all.
just the idea tends to completely gross me out. blegh.
but ive started eating chicken again..

I used to get that so much! its infuriating!!
especially "how do you know plants dont have feelings??"
i just tell people i dont eat any if little meat because i dont like it, if i had a big enough problem with them killing the animals etc there are a lot better things i could be doing than just refusing to eat it. now leave me alone :D
im wonderfully sociable..

Crocodile is a very white and fairly tasteless flakey meat but, like chicken, is great when combined with a sauce (Thia Chilli Crocodile is fantastic!!!) and Witchety Grubs I don't recommend... The taste... hmmm... sort of like the marrow from chops...
Anyone else ever chosen to eat some form of insect???

African crocodiles taste a bit like fish, a bit like chicken.
Grilled termites are the tastiest things on earth and the most wonderful delicacy I've ever eaten.

I live on the boarder between omnivore and try hard and I go in phases. most of the 'dishes' I know how to cook are veggie my husband maked the stuff with meat in it. I really like to know where my meat came from and hamburger and re-formed meats gross me out.
