This is stupid, butmy husband asked me the other day if I ever had any online friends from France, I said no but then I didnt have many European friends at all until I came here. Anyway, he asked me if I thought it was weird that I didnt know anyone from France, which I said no, theres a lot of places I dont know anyone from, like Africa. Then he went into this entire thing about the French being antisocial, even on the net, sticking to French only places. Is aid Id ask here, and he said there may be some exceptions, but I should ask the exceptions if they think their country is antisocial. SO, thats whatIm doing hehe, hope no one takes any offense at it

I'm not form France but I used to live in Grenoble and I'm planning to go back there. The sterio type of French people is wrong. I'm black and I know that there are lots of issues around that in France. I like france better than London, where I was born and people in London are far more antisocial than the French.
I would also like to hear from people who live in France too!!
send me a PM

Well, thats what I thought too, when I visited Europe the Brits were the ones who seemed antisocial and the French were nice, ofcourse all the Brits Ive met online are totally different than anyone I actually met while there lol

Perhaps the reason that you don't meet many French people on-line is because you don't speak French? There are just as many French people out there who don't speak English as English speaking people who don't speak French (no, that's not true, there are more of the latter). If you joined some French forums, I'm sure you'd meet lots of French nationals.
Sometimes people, especially in the States, think the whole world lives, thinks and eats in English. That's not true.
My gosh. I live in Switzerland right near the French border. I have also lived in France and my husband is French. Anti-social?? You're kidding - they are warm hearted, fun-loving people. Actually, no different to most people in the world, except that they probably have the best wines and that makes the social life even more mellow.
Vive la France! Et vive les français!

i have been in france several times as it's not so far away from where i am.
all those prejudices about antisocial frenchies i have never met in france, though ofcourse in every country there are people that are not so nice.
but that's absolutely not the case in france.
i like the people there, they are friendly, helpful if your french is not 100% (which is, in my case).
i found this in normandie and picardie, good food and nice people, what else can you ask for?
kaz,
who now wonders how those dutchies are known around the globe.....

I have often said that when folk travel to Europe (I'm thinking mainly North Americans here), their trip usually inlcudes a trip to Paris & London. And I have often said that when this happens the results are: Love Paris/Hate London or Love London/Hate Paris.
The interesting thing is both usually "hate" the other city for the same reasons! "Too crowded, dirty. rude people..." I like both cities - each has something really special to offer.
But I L-O-V-E Paris! We had the most lovely time there and the Parisians - as most everyone else we met in France - were among the warmest, most hospitable folk we'd met.

Well, I don't like Paris, but then I'm not into huge cities anyway. But I love France. I've lived there twice, for a year each time, and found the people to be great. We also used to go there a lot when the boys were younger. I love the food and the people and the space and the feel of the place.
There are some French tarot sites on the net, but my French isn't really up to it. I've been in a couple of French chat rooms (some time ago) and people were really friendly, even though my French isn't idiomatic at all.
I don't meet many Japanese people online, I suspect for similar reasons - my grasp of Japanese is nil.
Regards,
FH

i love france! and the people and everything.
i find its the same as any country..there are those who're rude and anti social, and there are those who are warm hearted and kind.
you cant define any nation by a stereotype.

I am French though not living there any more and I agree with Hush. French ppl like all Latins, are warm and friendly but you shouldn't think you have made a bunch of new friends immediately just because you get invited to parties and ppl tell you all the time how cool you are. They are a bit superficial (see the process ? living abroad for almost 5 years and starting to speak about French ppl as "THEY" ;) ).
My DH who's finnish and was an exchange student near Paris when we met, thinks that Frenchies are weird and not that friendly, he said especially girls (now you know the REAL point of his year abroad ...) weren't not so keen on making eye contact. And I swear he's really worth looking at, in the eyes especially ;) !!!
French ppl speak a lousy english and, as they hate being ridiculous (high social pressure to be perfect, beautiful, clever, competitive), they may not want you to realize how bad they speak so they rather not speak at all ... Just an option but I know it is true for some of them, AL'RIGHT !... some of us !....
I love french mustard (see "Fave foods" in chat section), I miss french cheeses and a real baguette, I miss my friends and family and the familiar places but I don't know if, altogether, I miss France/french ppl, probably because, as Hush pointed out, there are nice and unpleasant ppl everywhere ... :) and, as IMHO, ppl "make" the place, I am as happy here.

I HATE LONDON & PARIS I want to get out of London from yesterday and go back to the south of France!
I must admit to myself that I'm a really warm and loving person but I do have that cold English touch when ppl first meet me.
