Sleep Barking.

Funny thing just happened, and I thought I'd share it.

James, my SO, is asleep here (computer is in the bedroom) after being up all night writing. I don't need sleep; I'm too caffinated and full of ideas to go to bed.

Anyway, just two minutes ago he rolled over suddenly, sat up with his eyes closed and barked, as in 'Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof!', then lay back, rolled onto his side and continued snoring.....

Maybe he's really a dog dreaming that he's James dreaming about being a dog.........

i've heard of this before. i think it can be associated w/ sleep-walking. interesting what ppl say in their sleep, huh? 8)

Umbrae  26 May 2002
Years back, my wife who was sound asleep at the time, sat up (like in The Exorcist) as though her back was hinged. Sat up without the legs moving, back straight. Turned her head towards me, eyes WIDE open, white toothy smile from ear to ear (too creepy)…and said, “There are too many Christians on this bus”. She then flopped down and continued to snore.

I have a record of her “sleep wisdom”.

(Woof woof…that’s rich).

Cat  26 May 2002
Nearly as good as the time he rolled over, put his arma round me and said sweetly, 'You're great. You're my invincible duck.'

Talks in his sleep all the time.

Umbrae  27 May 2002
Invincible duck...wow...there is some deep symbolism there…somewhere (lol).

Spasticgirlie  27 May 2002
I have got to say that reading what you people have heard from people that are sleeping has given me a great laugh. I like them all but I think my fav is the invincible duck. Its great. I dont know if I talk in my sleep since i dont share a room with anyone or anything, but i have been told a few times before that I have, but no one remembers what I said. Oh well.

*is just rolling laughing here*

Idea! Try having a conversation with these people while they're asleep. :D It's good for a laugh or two. (Trust me on this - a couple of college friends did that to me one time and recorded it. It's been years and we still laugh like idiots every time the subject comes up.)

That sleep barking reminds me of a quote from a book. "He dreamed he was a wolf who dreamed he was a man who dreamed he was a wolf who dreamed." It's from The Wolf's Hour by Robert R. McCammon. Wonder where my copy went....

ROFLMAO! I suppose I am lucky: I don't sleep talk.. Well, I mumble, so my S.O cannot understand what I am saying, which is probably a good thing actually!

Although my S.O can hold a conversation when he's inbteween awake and asleep: At this time, he will just agree to anything you say.. So, I get up to go to college, and its: "Simon, will you hoover for me? Will you go down town and opst this parcel for me? Will you buy me that new and really expensive Tarot deck?" and he'll say yes... }) })

His Father is kinda the same... But different. When he is alseep, you can hold a conversation with him, and it is th eonly time he will tell the truth, whole tuth, and nothing but the truth...

What a pity I cannot ask my cats what I do when I am asleep.

When I was in hospital, one of my roommates told me that I purred in my sleep. When she heard it for the first time, she really thought that there was a big cat somewhere in the room. Funny, isn't it?

Umbrae and Cat, you two have made me laughed until I cried!

I sleep with my eyes open. I can only imagine how creepy this is for other people. There was one time in high school where I fell asleep on the bus and my best friend who was sitting next to me was so creeped out by it that she kept waking me up.

Most people discover this when they try to have a conversation with me because my eyes are open, but I don't answer because I'm asleep.

I had a roommate in college who talked in her sleep. It was actually like sleep turrets syndrome. She would just suddenly yell some random curse and then continue snoring.

Umbrae  29 May 2002
My wife woke me up last night and said, "When in motion, use the wall mount."

I said," Huh?"

"When in motion, use the wall mount!" she replied in a stern voice.

Then she said, "The phone you know...snkoooooooooookthp...snkoooooooothel[pthek[ putt putt putt..."

I almost woke her up laughing.

Umbrae: I hope you are writing all these down in a journal! Then you can publish them one day or use them as material for a modern kind of novel.

Does your wife know that you are spreading her words around the WorldWideWeb??

Umbrae  30 May 2002
I write everything down...heh heh heh.

If she would log in once in a while and read posts she would know...It is not a secret that I am here...heh heh heh...

LOL!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!

Oh, man!! This thread it the best I have seen here at Aeclectic!!! I can't say that I have ever talked in my sleep, although I don;t know, I have no one to sleep with.

destinyawaitsme  30 May 2002
lol...In January, me and my now roomate were in Dallas on a college band trip. Everyone in the room was complaining about one of the girls snoring loud. But I didn't hear it because I was dead asleep. Then she informed me that I probably didn't hear it because I was too busy making my own noise. Evidently during the night I had rolled over on my back with all fours in the air and started squealing like a pig...I only wish I could remember what I was dreaming about. :)

Zhritza  01 Jun 2002
I had a girlfriend who would do this, in a very dreamy voice, higher-pitched than her regular speaking voice. She wouldn't say complete sentences, just phrases, all of which sounded like lines of haiku or song titles. The one I can remember right now is, "Another Thursday..."

Maalin  04 Jun 2002
ROFL! I love the *invincible duck*!!!! What a great compliment...

I apparently get 'giggly fits' while asleep, when I just happily chuckle away to myself. :D

Since I've been told about this, I sometimes I even notice that it's happening and try to remember what's so funny so that I can have another laugh when I wake up, but while it seems so obviously funny while I'm asleep, I can never remember in the morning.

Also, one of my colleagues, who is the sweetest person you can image when awake, occasionally sits up in the middle of the night (fast asleep) and turns the air blue with cursing. Make of that what you will....

PS Hey, look everybody, I've discovered italics!!!!!

Cat  04 Jun 2002
I think I may have to change my screen-name to Invincible Duck....

Apparently, last night I was a bit odd in my sleep. I kept telling James, in no uncertain terms, to go away when he tried to kiss me goodnight.

"**** off. You're not James. Only James is allowed to kiss me."

Allegedly I say things like this to him all the time in my sleep- "Where's James? James, make the man go away."
Kind of a projected multiple personality disorder.
