Hey Aeclecticans and fellow Star Wars Fans!

I saw Episode Two the day it came out here in Australia and I was *mostly* very impressed! The love and romance scenes got a bit much... very cliched... but over all it was really great!

Thankfully Jarjar Binks did not feature in it much and C3PO and R2D2 provided most of the comic relief like they did in the original movies.

The scenery is really stunning - you have to see it in the cinema to really appreciate it's beauty!

If you are a Star Wars fan, you hardly need me to say "Go see it!" but it is fantastic and much better than Episode One.

Oh yeah... Yoda rocks!!!

So - What did you think of Star Wars: Episode II; Attack of the Clones???

SO MUCH!

I hated Episode One, but this was just fantastic - thing is, can't say too much, cos spoiling it for anyone else is not on.

The moment when the Darth Vader theme music makes it's first real appearance though.....

Everyone should go see it. I'm going again in aboutr 10 minutes.

Hi!

Haven't seen it yet, but I will. I just got curious; did you have to camp out to get premiere tickets? Here in Stockholm they did, there were tents outside the movie theatre for days before the ticket release... Geez! I would never do that...!

And what's wrong with JarJar Binks? I thinks he's kinda cool... I just saw Episode I on TV, and realized the long-eared dude talks just like Ali G - so finally we all know what planet HE'S from...! :D :D :D

/Jenny :)

jade  18 May 2002
took the kids on opening day.........they loved it, i thought it was okay. i still prefer the original episode 4 :D

but it was sooo nice to see the history.....like meeting luke's guardians for example....i liked that.

in light,
jade

ps and a definite must on the big screen

purplelady  18 May 2002
I haven't seen it yet , and don't know When I will get to , but I definitely plan on it! Mayyy.......be tomorrow? But maybe not!
I hear a lot of criticism of The Phantom Menace, but I really liked it!
Did you know there was a couple of guys who camped out Since January at the theatre parking lot in a tent in Seattle I think! Yeah , I went to their web site and very geeky but kind-of amusing message boards!

jade  18 May 2002
purplelady,

that's so funny since i live in a small town.....there isn't even line ups for the showings LOL

we got there 10 minutes late, didn't miss any of the movie and had lots of seats to choose from LOL

in light,
jade

ps another big YES for a small town!

kayne  18 May 2002
I didn't see the Premiere, that was 12am Thursday morning (Wed night...) and apparently people lined up from 8pm for that... and people dressed up. My friend went and apparently there was way too many Jedi Apprentice hair for any one room to handle (short on top, long plait behind the ear, little tuft in a tail on the back...) But I did see it Thursday night and got great seats without being any earlier than for normal movies...

btw. I watched it again last night (Saturday night) :P

The cool thing to watch it as an aussie is all the Aussie actors that pop up in the background! It's so cool!!! I will tell you one to look out for that many will know... Do you remember Mouse from The Matrix? Well he was once Damien in a soapie that Brits might know called 'Home and Away'. He also pops up in Episode Two, trying to sell Kinobe some "Death Sticks" in a club...

Shadow_Dragon  19 May 2002
STAR WARS WAS GREAT!!!

Cat  19 May 2002
More ! Again! Again!

Just as much fun the second time around. And we got everyone chanting for Yoda. However, the love-plot was torturous, no subtelty whatsoever to the scripting.

Shadow_Dragon  19 May 2002
Need DARK VADER!!!!

Phoenix  19 May 2002
Mieh, I can wait until it comes on Television. That's how I saw Episode I. Not a big Star Wars fan, but I enjoy it on occasion.

aciddragon  19 May 2002
I was finally able to go see Star War today. WOW. I loved it. And Yes Yoda is the cat daddy with all the moves. Dang. Yoda must be sporting that cane for look cause he can move. I was locked on the screen for the entire movie. I think this is the best of all the Star Wars movies so far. Was shocked that Dark Vadar wasn't made in this one cause I swore in the preview they have him doing his breathing thing. For sure, two thumbs up. And if someone don't agree they are just plain weird. ;) I can't say enough about yoda...wow he's action part wasn't even that big but it just RULED!! That stance he had...hehe Ok..I'm done babbling on I guess. See it or be square. :)

Sam  19 May 2002
don't freak on me-but i don't want to see episode II. i just think george is over doing it? 456,1-now 2? please!

catlin  21 May 2002
I still haven't seen Episode II in the cinema, I saw most of Star Wars on tv. Maybe I'll go to the cinema in case there is a sponsering by my company, I hate to pay full price at the cinema as I can spent the saved money on books so I only go to sponserd movies or on family day :D

Ravenswing  21 May 2002
i'm just wondering how they get from 2 to 4.

(yeah, yeah-- number three, right?)

LVX

kayne  22 May 2002
Steve: I think after watching number two you can really start joining the dots to complete the picture... That is part of the fun of the movie... "Oh - so that's how it came about..." was what I was thinking all the time. (eg. Death star plans, the army for Darth Vada etc...)

Marion  22 May 2002
I guess I am a Star Wars fan. I even loved Ep 1 which I guess lots of folks did not. I was glued to the screen for the whole movie, and really jumped when they played the Darth Vader theme as Anakin was telling Padme about killing the creatures who took his mom. It seemed like a more grown-up picture than some of the rest. All thumbs-up from me!!

Kiama  23 May 2002
WWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! Times INFINITY! AMAZING!

Yoda is such a bad-assed-mudder! He is SOOOOO evil in this one compared to the other films... But I think lots of fans went to see this film mainly to see how Yoda fights a huge, fully grown man... It was brilliant, but I wish that fight scene had been longer... In fact, I wish all the lightsabre fight scenes had been longer...

But you know what? One thing that was even more annoying than Jar Jar was Obi Wan's 'my young padawan learner' thing! What is going on with that man! I wish he would just stop repeating that: It doesn't sounds wise, it sounds lecherous! (And I can see why he might be: Hayden Christenson is rather YUMMY!)

The first moment the Vader music shows just hit me full force. (No pun intended.) It really was an amazing bit there... In fact, the music in this film was great: Used very effectively... It is sounding more like the original Star Wars music now...

However, there is a quite predicatble bit in this film, which leads me to guess a whole storyline in Ep3... Involving Boba Fett and Mace Windu... The predictability was so much that I could work out one of the storylines from the next film in just one look from the young Boba... (Hey, I did Media Studie.) I'm not gonna say what I think will happen, cuz I would give too much of the current film away in the process which would spoil it for those who haven't yet seen it.

Butf C3PO says anymore lame lines I am gonna cry. Here's one for you: His head has been detacthed from his body, and R2 has just placed his head by his body. C3PO says: "I'm beside myself" as in, 'with worry'... Groan.

Lucas seems to have left himself plenty to try and do in Ep 3.. He's left so much of the storyline to be linked up, so he's got loads of work to do! YEAH! More Hayden Christenson!

But.... Did anyone else notice that Anakin gave the same look to Amidala when he was doing the whole 'I want you' thing, as he did to those he wanted to kill? Nowthat freaked me out!

Kiama

Hush  23 May 2002
eh. it was alright. hehe. i only ever *loved* return of the jedi. the rest have all just been ok.

a lot of stuff bugged me about ep II....didnt anyone find the yoda fight stuff kinda stupid? and the bit with with the army and spaceships.

and the fact it couldnt stick to one scene for longer than 2 seconds! so annoying!

i dont know...i never liked them all that much anyway. hehe.

joya250  23 May 2002
I guess I am the only dissenter here. I thought the movie was LAME. acting was horrible (and sorry Kiama, but I didn't find "Ani" attractive at all) and special effects just don't turn me on. it's like "oh look what we can do with computer animation." whoop-de-whoo! look out! more crazzzzy stuff.

and, actually, the only two lines I laughed at (besides when Ani and the Senator kiss) were C3PO's line about the "beside himself" and the other one he said. :) hahaha. dry humor. love it.

now don't hate me -- I'm a big star wars fan. it's just that the first three (the first three to be released) were great ----- and now it's all about the computerized graphics. it's a shame it can't incorporate both. --- and what about the magic that the orginal charecters brought to the screen? there is none of that anymore. sigh. where's Harrison Ford when you need him. now HE's yummy!

I agree with this part... Ep 1, 2, and 3, will never be the same as ep 4, 5, 6... It just doesn't feel right somehow. Star Wars, for most people, is Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia in a Gold Bikini, and Harison Ford... O, and Chewbaca! Yeh! (I got to agree Joya, Harrison Ford is the most amazingly gorgoues guy ever. I'm a big harrison Ford fan... And wasn't he just scrumptious in the Indiana Jones films?!)

We all became Star Wars fans because of the original characters, and all those wonderful plot twists. (Who would've thought that Luke was Vader's son? My Father spoilt this surprise for me... I first watched the whole trilogy when I was 14 (I watched them as a kid but didn't pay much attention, and quickly forgot about them. But hey, I was about 3 at the time, and I only watched Return of the Jedi for the Ewoks. Now they were pure genius) and I was in the middle of watching Empire, when Dad came in an said, 'Oh, btw, Vader is Luke's Father....' NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!)

Having said all that, I still found ep. 2 very enjoyable. Altho I agree with Hush about the 2 second scene thing... I was a bit annoyed about that during the start of the movie: It jumped around quite alot, and I was getting dizzy and confused!

Anyway, there's my agreements!

jade  24 May 2002
i agree that these new episodes bring no great surprise and the magic of the force isn't in these movies either. there's not training in a swamp learning to do jedi things..............there's no sleeping inside a dead animal to keep warm, there's not the exciting luke flying into the center of the death star and exploding it!!!!!!

now that was the thrill of star wars :D

love

Marion  25 May 2002
Okay, before I get flamed, let me state that I adore every Star war movie made and have seen each of them more times than I care to admit. Nonetheless I found the following hilarious.

"How to Annoy a Star Wars Fan(atic)"
When someone starts going on about the life-changing role the Star Wars movies have played in their developmental years, casually announce that you've never seen any of them, but hear they are "pretty good."

Get important terminology wrong -- this drives the true fanatic nuts! Confuse Wookies with "Winkies"; call Yoda "Yodel"; refer to Return of the Jedi as Revenge of the Jedi, Phantom Menace as Planet Menace, and Attack of the Clones as Send in the Clowns. Get very annoyed when corrected.

Get the names of the key characters wrong, or better still -- forget them. "You remember the guy from these movies, you know, the one with the plastic head and the respiratory problem?" or "Oh, yeah, Ben-Wa Kenubi, my favorite, played by that English bloke. Wassisname. Sounds like a beer or something." Insist that The Empire Strikes Back is the only worthwhile Star Wars movie because it is "sooo dark."

Deliberately confuse science-fiction universes and inhabitants. Double fun and satisfaction as this offends two sets of rabid Nerdocracies at the same time. For example, insist that Luke Gripewater is fighting for "The Federation" and that Chewbaccy is a Vulcan. Insist that "to boldly go where no man has gone before" is a Jedi commandment. Brush off any attempt at correction with a dismissive "whatever. As if anybody really cares."

Make vaguely unsettling insinuations about George Lucas. Try "isn't he involved in some sort of DNA-cloning controversy?" or "I hear he only talks to his mother via a TV monitor," or "I read this piece where he said Star Wars was written for people who hate sex." Insist that there is a "latent homo-erotic subtext" to the Han Solo/Luke Skystalker relationship and you are uncomfortable with Lucas' "non-critical, neo-Nazi aesthetic." When asked what you are talking about, roll your eyes and refer to the "blatant homage to Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will" at the end of the first movie, then add, "Don't tell me you didn't notice?"

When some sad sack describes the insane lengths he went to for Attack of the Clondes -- camping out on the street, taking time off work, neglecting loved ones, not bathing and so on, respond by saying someone "in the business" gave you a couple of free tickets to the official opening, but you lost them and add, "Funny, that's the first time I thought about it." When they just won't shut up about how it's the most spectacular movie event of all time and how you would have to be a moron not to dedicate every waking moment to it, simply say, "Yeah, my little sister and her little friends get a kick out of it all. You know how it is with these pop space movies."

The ultimate is to play stupid that the movie was even a big event. "Attack of the Clones? Yeah, I heard something about that in the local newspaper. Something about the guy that made the first four is going at it again or something? Dunno ... "

When someone is sitting there theorizing about how there's probably secret messages and things you can see if you look closely in the movie, just calmly sit there and say in a whisper, "Then I guess you haven't played it backwards in a VCR before?" Try not to laugh as the person (attempting to look calm and collected) slowly gets up, starts walking out of sight, then see him bolt down the street towards their house to try it. Depending on how avid of a fan the person is, look for the smoke trail.

To make the last suggestion even more fun, wait for them to call back after they have gone through the whole movie backwards and couldn't find anything in Phantom Menace. Tell them, "Oh, that's right, it was in one of the other three episodes." When they tell you the lengths they went through and the sleepless nights spent trying to get a pirated copy before everyone got to see it in the theater, tell them, "That's funny, I simply called the 1-800 number that was all over the Internet and got it mailed to me the same day, three weeks before the movie came out."

ROFLMAO! Marion, that was so funny! I have this image in my head of the Star Wars fan streaming down the road....

I just got back from the movie-house. It's a very noisy film, isn't it? The clone soldiers have a very bad strategy - they wouldn't get very far in a conventional war. I cried a bit when the mother died. I liked the gladiator-roman thingy. I don't trust the chancellor - never have. How come that the senator-woman (forget her name) manages so many fancy hairstyles in such a short time? How come that in the future they haven't yet invented vehicles that don't make a noise? And why do they still have to carry their suitcases?

I don't understand though who ordered the clone-soldiers and why. But it's normal for me to come out of a movie and not having clicked onto things. My mind wanders.

Marion  26 May 2002
And, my personal favorite, why do things make noise in space... space ships, explosions and so on? did they change the laws of physics? The only movie I ever saw that actually acknowledged the fact that sound cannot travel in a vacuum was a fav of mine "Silent Running".
And I agree Diana, much as I liked the movie, I had a headache when it was over from the sheer noise level.

The Star Wars films are all set 'a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...' so, whilst they are in the past, meaning they still have to carry their own suitcases, their technology for things such as war thingies is pretty advanced... (Gotta get me an AT AT Walker!!! }))

Diana, have you seen the other Star Wars films?

Diana  27 May 2002
I've seen all the Star War movies, Kiama. And love them dearly. But I always reckoned that the "Once upon a time" thing, was as if I was living in the future, even further on than the Star Wars themselves. And I think I am right.

I can't wait to find out why Hanniken (spelling???) (Luke's future daddy) becomes Dark Vader.

May the force be with us all.

Hi Diana! The reason I aske cwas cuz you said you didn't trst the Chancelor: I was interested to see if you had reason to (Eg- You'd watched the other films) or if you're just a very intuitive person!

Anakin becomes Darth Vader... I can't wait to see Ep. 3 either! That really will be a gooun... I hope. George has left lots of stuff to happen in that one (Much of which big Star Wars fans know already!) but it will still be fun to see it all happen.

Kiama

lunar_rabbit  28 May 2002
Just have to point this out for the sake of my husband, who is the hugest Star Wars fan of all time, that it's Darth Vader, not Dark Vader. :-)

Needless to say, we saw Ep II on opening day. I really enjoyed it. I got a kick out of how moody and gloomy Annikan was -- and yes, the "I want to kiss you" look was EXACTLY the same as the "I want to kill you" look. Bad acting or good acting? Hmmmmm..... You can totally see how someone like that could become a bad guy.

Some of it was over the top, but hey, it's Star Wars. No one ever said it was a documentary! I also thought it was hilarious the HUGE role Jarjar played, despite being on screen for only 5 minutes total.

I give it a big thumbs up! (much better than Ep I)

Yoda rules!!!

Cat  29 May 2002
'I hate sand. You are not sand, so I love you.'

Hmmm......Smooth work, Ani.

Zhritza  30 May 2002
Regarding the wooden acting -- I've become convinced that, with this and with Phantom Menace, George Lucas has intentionally tried to go for a classic science fiction movie flavor: everything is delivered too seriously, etc. I can understand why he might decide to do this, but I think it was a really lousy decision. The best thing about the first three movies was that our heroes were doing all kinds of wild and wonderful things that we can only dream of doing, but they acted like they were just regular folks doin' their job. That's why C3PO was so funny -- he was the only serious creature there. The joke was on him the whole time.

I liked Anakin and Amidala/Padme well enough, probably only because he reminds me of someone I was in love with, and she has such enthralling clothing. I did cringe a few times during the interminable "getting to know you" scenes on Naboo. For some reason, though, he does seem like he could turn into Darth Vader. Constrained by the script, he can't do any real acting, but he feels like a proto-Darth anyway.

Yoda was such a wonderful surprise. The theater erupted in applause when he drew his saber, and again seconds later when he started fighting Christopher Lee's character.

Diana  30 May 2002
Now some of you will be thinking I've gone nuts here. But I swear I haven't.

I truly believe that for the first three episodes (I mean IV, V and VI), Lucas received information from other spheres and dimensions. Like all artists, his inspiration was not just drawn from inside his head, but from a greater source. I believe also that there are extremely important messages that were given to Lucas to be transmitted to us humans. Whether he knows this or not is besides the point.

I believe that the other three episodes (I, II and III) are of his own creation, and can therefore never rival with the others. But I understand his need and desire to make them and I think it's great.

Zhritza  01 Jun 2002
Diana, I don't think that's nuts at all; I think that there was definitely some sort of "divine" inspiration going on initially for Lucas, that he was a conduit for something. I feel the same way about Michael Jackson's album "Thriller" actually, and a number of other musicians' works. Sometimes it just feels impossible for it not to be true...

Diana  01 Jun 2002
Oh, I am in the need of some new CDs. I don't have Thriller. If it's still available, I think I'll buy it and try and see what you mean. Jackson is in any case an outstanding artist so I'm sure I won't be wasting my money.

Zhritza  02 Jun 2002
Or he certainly was outstanding, anyway... You need "Off the Wall" as well as "Thriller," actually. They're easy to find. :)

Didn't someone else write the screenplay for the first (or last, whatever) three Star Wars movies? Too bad that's no longer the case. (sigh) "Soft... and smooth... grunt..." Next time Lucas wants to write, they should club him over the head.
