does anyone know of any online support groups that are REALLY good?
i don't just want a pile of useless links...........if you've been a part (or are) and you know first hand how supportive it is then please post a little explanation of the group, it's dynamics and a link.
a group full of victims/survivors is great if they are all at different levels of healing......otherwise you don't grow. so do any of you know of a healthy online group?
thanks for your assistance. i have a special friend that could use some support to heal from childhood stuff (((hugs)))
love and light,
jade :)

What kind of support group, jade? I belong to a ME/CFS support group, one for parents of children with ME/CFS and a 'walking away from fundamentalism' support group. I also know of one for Self Harmers that seems good but I'm not a member.
All the best,
FH

when yahoo clubs existed, it was the best i've ever found as far as finding any kind of support group you could possibly want. there were occasionally technical glitches but overall great site. recently, they merged w/ yahoo groups and it's been a complete nightmare dealing w/ yahoo. if you can figure out the system, there are wonderful support groups of all kinds there. i will probably be seeking greener pastures soon. when i find another site that has good support groups i'll let y'all know.
another good group is the wounded healer's journal. i don't have her website right at me but a search engine should be able to find it. she also has it on yahoo but i'd like to find an alternative site easier to deal w/.

something for childhood abuse/trauma. that sort of thing.
i know that i healed from my horrible childhood with the help of a support group and an excellent therapist...........but not everyone can afford such things, or get out to them. so she needs to find support that can assist her to heal from the comfort of her computer chair.
anyone? links?

jade
ps i didn't want to just have her join yahoo groups without knowing if it was a good one or not...........anyone who has joined different forums/groups knows that there are really bad/disfunctional ones out there and i care for her tooooooo much to want her to go thru more yuck just to get help. i just wanna pave her road with a little gentle loving light......so she can do the work wrapped by angels :)

saferoom is the best online support group for sexual abuse survivors. it's run by survivors and there is usually a chat every night after 10 pm. it was on yahoo until the merger. i think they've moved to another site but the old site may still be there w/ instructions on how to get to the new one. this is a very protected site. at some sites i've been to there has been problems w/ sexual predators but not at saferoom. they've been around nearly five years and have a list of aliases, etc. they also require a certain amount of information about you in the 3D world w/in a certain amount of time or they delete you from the group. some ppl don't like the fact they want a certain of info before they let you in but past experience has proved this is the safest thing to do.
i also like wounded healer's journal for survivor's. i haven't been there in a while so i need to check it out. i can check where saferoom is now, too.

jade,
the website is at: http://www.saferoom.org
i just checked and the site is offline for maintenance or something. but it'll probably be back up by tonight for the saturday night chat at 10:00 est unless it's a serious problem. they've also got a site at msn under saferoom or saferoom project. she won't be able to get in until a moderator approves her but it only takes a day or two. really nice ppl. i've met a lot of them in person at the annual saferoom con. i can vouch for them personally. occasionally there'll be a spat but the moderators are great at putting out fires quickly. if you pm or email me about the situation, i'll contact the moderators to make her transition easier.
i hope this helps. it will take me longer to track down the wounded healer's journal but i'll get back to you on that.

based on some communications i've had w/ saferoom moderators, they are operating out of msn and yahoo, too. the names would be saferoom or saferoom project. if she gives it some effort she'll figure out what's going on and where the chats are being held. right now they are held at the msn site.
