This has been bothering me

Have any of looked out the window while riding or driving down the road and realized exactly what your looking at? Well I normally just look out and think that our world is pretty beautiful. But I cant see that anymore. I realized how icky everything has turned. There is trash on the side of the roads all over the place. It could be me but everything outside seems to have an icky yellow to it. The hills around here are golden and there is sun out, but the yellow I see is not a pretty yellow whatsoever. It is bothering me so much. I use to not realize it but I do now, and I almost wish I didnt so that it wouldnt bother me anymore.

Yeah... I can understand that you think that the earth isn't beautiful anymore because of the trash that lies around everywhere! It sickens me, that's why I do something about it... if it bothers you so much help to make the earth look beautiful. Plant some trees.. pick up some trash.. every thing helps even in the smallest amount!

I have actually thought about doing that. But first I need to build up my army of helpers, and probly get donations or something and also find a place in my town that really needs work....at least for a big area. However I also want to get a group together and just pick up trash one day. I bet we could make it some kind of fun. I dont know. But I have been thinking and occasionally thinking does lead to doing.

*nods* That's a great idea! And I'm happy that you are taking part of helping the earth!

we do it all the time. just pick up a bag and start picking up trash. if i see alot of trash on the side of the road, i pull over and pick it up!

it doesn't go away.................every person makes a difference!!! :)

in light,
jade

ps i was just out at our new house today and i was commenting on just how beautiful it is. we are cradled in a circle of mountains.........aaahhhh, i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

A fun thing to do, which I used to do after a camping trip, is to get everyone to line up along the bottom of the field with a bag, and on the word 'go', to walk forward and pick up any litter that is in your line of walking... That way, you sweep the whole field quickly! Make sure you do a return sweep as well, just in case you have missed bits! Prizes for the person who picked up the most litter!

if anyone is serious about a pick-up-the-trash-day hear with the closest school.
among the things we learn in school is about the enviroment and perhaps something like that can get some of the kids going.
it wouldn't take too much, just an hour or so to motivate the kids, show what hazards things like broken glass or wires can be - and then get out there and do it.

i only suggest this because when i was in school i do remember who i got motivated this very same way into action.
the school next door from me have one day each spring and each fall when they do a trash-day and pretty much sweep the whole area.

I once joined in a canal clean-up day with my scuba diving club. This is an annual event in which the focus is on a different town every year. Scuba divers from all over the country come to this town and go into the canals to clean them.

It's amazing, the rubbish that you find in there... :(
Some of the things that were found in the small stretch of canal where my friends and I were at work: lots and lots of bikes, a shopping cart, a vacuum cleaner, a safe, lots of pieces of metal...
And in a canal nearby they even found a car...

By the way: this clean-up day is part of a worldwide initiative, the International Cleanup Day organised by Project A.W.A.R.E. (http://www.padi.com/aware/get_involved/cleanups/). The focus is on underwater cleanup, but a lot of beach cleanups are organised as well, so you don't necessarily have to be a scuba diver to join in.

This is interesting because a friend and I where just talking about this. I had tried to find a paper I have that has the speech Chief Seattle gave. He knew then, what we see today.
I can't find the thing though, must still be in storage.

In the Boy Scouts, we called that "policing the area," and it was mandatory!

it's wonderful that you're concerned about your environment spasticgirlie! i was just wondering what it is that is REALLY bothering you? something closer to home maybe?
our views of ourselves and of our lives can strongly color our views of the world. have you ever noticed that when you're feeling up and good, the whole world looks beautiful? then, when you see litter, you just pick it up and don't let it change how you see everything else.
